Bono Delivers First Look at Highly Anticipated ‘Magical, Amazing' Project
First there was the book and the audiobook. Then the stage show. Now, U2 frontman Bono is coming to your house with the new Apple TV+ film Bono: Stories of Surrender, which will debut on the streaming service on May 30.
The film is described as a 'bold and lyrical visual exploration of Bono's one-man show.'

It's the latest evolution in the project that began as the singer's acclaimed memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, which evolved into the one-man stage production, Stories of Surrender: And Evening of Words, Music, and Some Mischief.
The film will include previously unreleased footage from the 'Beautiful Day' singer's April and May 2023 11-show run at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, where he shared stories of his life and performed songs from the U2 catalog backed by sparse instrumentation rather than his usual U2 bandmates. In the video preview, released Wednesday, April 30, Bono is heard introducing the show by saying, 'These are the tall tales of a short rock star.'
Fans are thrilled that the film will soon be released. Others, not so much.
'The 28th of April was 2 years since we caught this show at the Beacon (which was being filmed). So happy this is almost here. Magical!' wrote one, while another added, 'Saw this in NYC. Amazing.'
However, one commenter was quick to bring up U2's famous previous flop with Apple, when the band's 2014 album, Songs of Innocence, was automatically downloaded into the iTunes accounts of millions of Apple customers, much to the displeasure of some. 'What dirt does Bono have on Apple Execs? The U2 iPod, the album no one wanted, now this,' they wrote.
'Who is he ? Cant Apple+ keep bringing things like Silo or Severance ?' another wrote.
Speaking of Apple TV+ dramatic series. There is a Bono connection there as well. Bono's daughter, Eve Hewson, is one of the stars of the series Bad Sisters.

Zak Starkey Recruits Fellow Beatles Sons Sean Ono Lennon, James McCartney for ‘Rip Off'
Three children of Beatles members have collaborated on a new song. Sean Ono Lennon and James McCartney linked with Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, for 'Rip Off.' The song is credited to Mantra of the Cosmos, Starkey's supergroup with Happy Mondays members Shaun Ryder and Bez and Andy Bell of Ride. Lennon and McCartney lend vocals to the psychedelic song that Starkey previewed on his Instagram page. While many may view the song as a sort of Beatles redux moment, Starkey swiftly pushed back on that notion. When a reporter for The Telegraph asked him about needing Dhani Harrison, son of George Harrison, on the song, Starkey replied, 'No I don't. Why do I?' He clarified, 'No it's not [like the Beatles]. Pete Townshend on the Who's Split With Zak Starkey: ‘It's Been a Mess'
Pete Townshend has weighed in on the acrimonious split between the Who and drummer Zak Starkey, admitting of the situation, 'It's been a mess.' Back in April, the Who — or Townshend and Roger Daltrey — announced they 'made a collective decision to part ways with Zak' after the drummer's three-decade tenure with the group. Three days later, Townshend proclaimed that 'News Flash! Who back Zak!' but then reversed course again a month later to re-confirm Starkey's exit, with the drummer himself confirming he was 'retired' by Daltrey ahead of the Who's The Song Is Over farewell tour. '[Daltrey] came in four bars early,' Starkey told Rolling Stone earlier this month. 'But he just got lost. He blamed it on the drums being too loud, and then it got made into this huge social media thing.' Speaking to iNews, Townshend discussed the Royal Albert Hall shows that led to Starkey's dismissal. 'I couldn't see anything wrong. What you see is a band who haven't played together for a long time. But I think it was probably to do with the sound. I've lost my sound man as a result,' Townshend said. 'I think Roger just got lost. Roger's finding it difficult. I have to be careful what I say about Roger because he gets angry if I say anything about him at all. He'll be sacking me next. But that's not to say that he sacked Zak. It's a decision Roger and I tried to make together, but it kind of got out of hand.' Townshend went on to note that it was Daltrey who enlisted Starkey to join the Who in the first place — 'I didn't invite him in, right? Roger invited him,' the guitarist said — but still, 'I will miss Zak terribly. But quite what the story is, I don't fucking know. I really don't know.' The Who previously announced that Scott Devours, the drummer from Daltrey's solo band, will join the group for their upcoming farewell tour, a trek that Townshend himself doesn't seem overly enthused about. 'I don't know whether I've been up for doing anything with the Who since 1973,' he quipped to iNews about the tour. 'But I am looking forward to it. Not because it's the end, but because I hope that we can continue to explore other things.'
