Alabama gives baseball coach contact extension following 40-win season
According to the university's official NIL entity "Yea Alabama" late Tuesday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide have extended the contract of head baseball coach Rob Vaughn.
Vaughn, who came to Tuscaloosa prior to the 2023 season from Maryland, has led the Crimson Tide to two NCAA Tournament appearances during his first years in Tuscaloosa, but has yet to win a regional game, going 0-4 overall.
In 2024, Vaughn led the Crimson Tide to an overall record of 33-24, as well as a 13-17 mark in SEC play. Alabama however took a step forward in 2025 during year two under Vaughn, going 41-18 overall with a 16-14 mark against SEC opponents.
Remaining in Tuscaloosa, Vaughn will enter the 2026 season sporting a combined record of 74-42 overall, while also 29-31 in SEC play, at Alabama.

Alabama 4-Star Commit Shuts Down Recruitment
Alabama 4-Star Commit Shuts Down Recruitment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Alabama Crimson Tide football program has eight "commits" for the 2026 class. Although verbal commits, also known as hard commits, are nice, players cannot sign a letter of intent until their senior year during one of two signing periods, meaning those pledged to Alabama for the 2026 season are in no way, shape, or form locked into their oath. Advertisement On Sunday, Booker shut down his recruitment, per On3Sports. A top 20 interior offensive lineman, per 247Sports, Booker verbally committed to Alabama in mid-February. Despite his pledge, he has since taken official visits to the University of Florida Gators and the University of Georgia Bulldogs. It appears the Georgia native was unmoved by the other two programs, effectively shutting down his recruiting. He also has offers from the Ole Miss Rebels, UCF Knights, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Kentucky Wildcats, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Western Michigan Broncos, and Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Hapeville Charter High School product is part of a 2026 Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting group that also features fellow four-star offensive lineman Samuelu Utu. Advertisement The Tide is yet to earn a commitment from a five-star prospect in 2026, according to the On3 rankings. Alabama has signed at least three five-star recruits, including 2025 blue chip superstar quarterback Keelon Russell, each season since On3 began ranking in 2021. Alabama Lands Commitment From Elite 2026 Prospect
Alabama Lands Commitment From Elite 2026 Prospect originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Alabama Crimson Tide had a healthy amount of recruits visit Tuscaloosa this weekend. Not among them was 2026 three-star defensive lineman JJ Finch. Instead, the six-foot-three, 260-pound first-level defender took his talents to the Miami Hurricanes on an official visit. He also took official visits to the Tennessee Volunteers and Michigan Wolverines during the beginning of June. On Sunday, Finch pledged his allegiance to the Crimson Tide, per 247Sports. Advertisement Alongside Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, and Miami, he also holds offers from the Purdue Boilermakers, Kansas Jayhawks, Kentucky Wildcats, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Cincinnati Bearcats, Florida Gators, and Indiana Hoosiers, among others. Finch becomes the eighth commit for head coach Kalen DeBoer for the 2026 class. He joins four-star offensive lineman Samuelu Utu, and top quarterback recruit Jett Thomalla as Alabama's June commits. Meanwhile, he is now the second interior defensive lineman to verbally commit to Alabama for 2026, joining four-star Kamhariyan Johnson. In ten games last season, Finch collected 41 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and three sacks for Warren Central High School in Indianapolis. He had 12 tackles as a freshman in 2023. Advertisement Warren Central went 10-2 in 2024, their second year with Finch on the defensive line. They won just five games during his first year and posted a 6-6 record in their last season without Finch wreaking havoc on opposing backfields. Could Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr. fall to the Boston Celtics in the 2025 NBA draft?
Could Univeristy of Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr. fall to the Boston Celtics in the 2025 NBA draft? Clayton was the star of the eventual champion Gators in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, his clutch makes from beyond the arc helping to power UF to another national title. And while he may have some defensive warts, an older draft age, and a short stature going against his projected draft position, that might be good luck for Boston given they are selecting at Nos. 28 and 32 overall in the first and second round respectively. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 199 lbs., Clayton will need to get a bit stronger to survive at the NBA level. And with the maturity of a 22-year-old going for him, his age might not be so bad for a ball club like the Celtics looking for an immediate contributor. The hosts of the CLNS Media "First to the Floor" podcast, Jake Issenberg, Ben Vallis, and Wayne Spooney, took a closer look at Clayton on a recent episode of their show. Check it out below!
