Mother dragged by car at Liverpool parade feared baby son had died after pram was flung 15ft down road
A mother dragged on the bonnet of a car at the Liverpool parade has shared the horrifying moment she spotted her six-month-old baby's pram lying upside down in the road after the pair were hit by the vehicle.
Sheree Aldridge feared she and her son, Teddy, would die after the Ford Galaxy vehicle ploughed into them in Water Street on Monday evening.
The 36-year-old was pushing the pram alongside her partner Dan Eveson when they saw an ambulance making its way down the road, followed by a sudden noise that sounded like a brawl.
'I don't like fighting and get really anxious, so I turned around and wanted to get the baby out of the way,' she told The Independent from her hospital bed on Wednesday morning.
'Then I remember someone shouting 'car' and then I was literally on the bonnet, travelling for what felt like a while before I got thrown off and the car went over my leg.
'I had been pushing the pram and I had no idea where it went, so I looked around while on the floor and could see the pushchair upside down a little bit further up the road.
'I was just screaming that my baby was up there, but when I tried to move, I couldn't and then everyone rushed over, including Dan, who then went straight to Ted and took him to the ambulance.'Teddy and his father were taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where a check-up revealed no injuries to the baby. It later emerged that the impact of the car had sent the pram about 15 feet down the street.
Ms Aldridge was taken into a restaurant used as a temporary help centre, before being moved to Aintree University Hospital. The mother suffered severe bruising to one leg, but hopes to return to her family home in Cannock, Staffordshire, soon.
She said: 'I've never really been a religious person, to be honest, but something was looking down at us that day, I'm telling you. It's a miracle we're all alive.
'When I landed, I knew I was in pain, but I was more concerned about the baby and [his] dad. I've never had an accident like that before... I didn't know where the pushchair was, but I thought that was it. I thought that was my time.'
A total of 65 people were injured when the vehicle ploughed into a crowd of people during Liverpool's Premier League victory parade. More than 50, including children, were treated in different hospitals and 11 remained there on Tuesday in a stable condition.
Investigating officers believe the car slipped through the roadblock into Water Street by tailgating an ambulance crew attending to someone suffering a heart attack.
Police were continuing to question a a 53-year-old man from West Derby in Liverpool on Wednesday morning after his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and drug-driving.
Speaking on the police investigation, Ms Aldridge said: 'I think I just want to know why; because it was so direct towards me.'
But she said the response to the incident illustrated the community spirit in the city, from businesses opening up spaces for the injured to strangers offering lifts and places to stay for those affected.
Ms Aldridge said: 'I just want to thank everyone; all the ambulance staff, the restaurant, the public, because you never will get to see these people again. They could have ran, to be honest, they could have got out of the way as quickly as possible because you didn't know what was coming next, but they chose to stay with injured people.
'It says so much about the spirit of Liverpool.'

Omar Berrada issues hard-hitting message to Manchester United over City's 115 charges
Those within Manchester United have been handing a tough message from CEO Omar Berrada concerning Manchester City's 115 charges, according to fresh claims. Supporters and figures throughout football are continuing to wait for a clear verdict and outcome surrounding Manchester City's charges issued by the Premier League for alleged breaches of the division's financial rules. Advertisement It comes after manager Pep Guardiola said back in February that he expected the club to learn the outcome of the hearing into its 115 charges 'in one month', after such hearing took place in front of an independent commission between September and December. While no-one has formally stated when a decision will be reached, and the widespread expectation of such a verdict coming in the first quarter of 2025, additional lines of reporting have indicated that even the summer time may not be realistic. Nevertheless, the ongoing wait has got some figures within the game bracing for what could be, in their eyes, the worst possible outcome and Manchester City emerge from the situation entirely unscathed. According to the information of Manchester City insider 'Tolmie's Hairdoo' on X, Omar Berrada – CEO at Manchester United – has now briefed those within Old Trafford to prepare for potential 'civil war' within the Premier League. Advertisement The message to the club is also said to have included the hard-hitting fact that there was no wrongdoing during his time at Manchester City, as well as the development that an announcement is imminent concerning the Etihad club's charges. Berrada is also said to be expecting Manchester City to be cleared of all of the 'most serious' charges put to the club by the Premier League in February, 2023. Omar Berrada was first appointed by Manchester United to their position of chief executive in January 2024 after he resigned as chief football operations officer at City Football Group, earning a significant reputation for his work at Manchester City. The 47-year-old was initially the Etihad Stadium club's commercial director, before taking on the position of chief operating officer ahead of moving into the chief football operations officer position within the wider City Football Group. Significant alterations in Manchester City's boardroom have continued beyond Berrada's exit, with Txiki Begiristain opting to leave the role of sporting director this summer after 13 seasons in the position, succeeded by Sporting CP's Hugo Viana.

Kristi Noem rushed to hospital in an ambulance after allergic reaction, DHS says
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was rushed to a hospital in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday after experiencing an allergic reaction, according to an agency spokesperson. 'Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today,' DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement to The Independent. 'She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering,' she added. Noem has been conscious and has been speaking with her security detail, according to CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter. Following his election, Donald Trump named the former Republican governor of South Dakota to lead the sprawling federal law enforcement agency, where she serves as the de facto chief of the administration's anti-immigration agenda and the nation's emergency response operations, which she has vowed to dismantle. On Monday, Noem and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited Fort Detrick, the Maryland Army Base at the center of an FBI investigation into a biohazard incident. According to Kennedy's recent Senate testimony, a biosafety lab was shut down after an alleged incident involving two contractors. Last week, she held a press conference in California following protests demanding the withdrawal of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers after a series of raids that rattled immigrant communities in the Los Angeles area. Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla, who was attending a meeting in the same building last week, was roughed up by federal agents after he interrupted her briefing to ask questions about aggressive enforcement actions in the state. He was pinned to the ground and handcuffed. Noem and Padilla spoke for 15 minutes after the incident. On Tuesday, New York City mayoral candidate and elected comptroller Brad Lander was arrested inside a federal building in Manhattan where he was observing immigration court proceedings. Homeland Security officials accused Lander of assaulting an officer, an accusation that he has flatly rejected. Lander was released from custody several hours later. Before her nomination to Homeland Security, Noem served two terms as governor of South Dakota following elections in 2018 and 2022. She was among several prominent Republicans pundits considered for Trump's running mate in 2024.

R. Kelly Suffers Overdose Due To Medication Given To Him By Prison Staff, His Attorney Claims
R. Kelly is usually the topic of internet jokes, especially when a new celebrity is sent to jail. This past week, however, the 58-year-old singer suffered a health scare in prison that has people raising their eyebrows. Kelly had been put in solitary confinement last Tuesday (June 10) as part of his conviction for sex trafficking and racketeering. He had anxiety medication in his possession, but on that day, prison staffers were caught on camera instructing him to take a different prescription, per documents reviewed by The Independent. Three days later, the 'Same Girl' singer claimed that he felt faint, dizzy, and was seeing Black spots in his vision. He eventually lost consciousness and was taken to Duke University Hospital. He also claimed that, while being rushed to the medical facility, he heard a prison worker say, 'This is going to open a new can of worms.' Kelly ultimately spent two days being treated in the hospital, and realized that he was given a dose of medicine that could have killed him. R. Kelly had also reportedly been suffering from untreated blood clots over the last few months. Duke University workers identified blood clots in his legs that would require surgery. Still, his lawyers claimed that prison officers denied him the ability to get surgery and removed him from the hospital. The prosecution claimed that the judge who granted the controversial artist his release did not have the authority to do so, and the motion will he heard during a hearing this Friday (June 20). The timing of all this is interesting, as R. Kelly's legal team had been trying to get in contact with President Donald Trump to obtain a pardon for him. Their attempt was motivated by his allegedly being the target of an assassination plot by a white supremacist gang that was in his prison. Federal prosecutors labeled his efforts to get released as 'deeply unserious' and 'repugnant.' More from R. Kelly's Lawyer Says Singer Sympathizes With Diddy Amid Federal Sex Trafficking Trial R.
