Couple escapes unharmed after car catches fire on MEX

SEPANG: A man and his fiancée had a narrow escape after their Proton Gen 2 caught fire while travelling along Km21.8 of the Maju Expressway (MEX) near here this morning.
The 31-year-old driver, who wished to be known only as Arif, said the incident occurred suddenly as they were leaving Cyberjaya.
He recounted that his fiancée had alerted him that the brakes were not functioning properly just moments before they were forced to stop, after passing motorists began honking and pointing to smoke and flames emerging from the rear of the vehicle.
"We didn't realise it at first, but people behind us kept honking. That's when we noticed the fire," he said.
Six firefighters from the Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Station (PBB Cyberjaya) were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.50am.
Upon arrival, they found the vehicle fully ablaze, with an estimated 95 per cent of it damaged.
Both occupants managed to escape unharmed. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

DENPASAR: An Australian man was shot dead and another one was wounded in a shooting at their villa on the popular Indonesian resort island of Bali early Saturday, according to police who were hunting for two suspects. Local police chief Arif Batubara said in a statement that two men came to the victims' villa in the popular tourist hub of Badung district just after midnight, stormed inside, and shot the victims. 'We still don't know the motive of the attack,' Arif said. The dead victim was Zivan Radmanovic, 32, while the other man, Sanar Ghanim, 34, was seriously wounded and had been taken to hospital, Arif said. 'We are currently investigating the scene to find out the motive of this attack,' he said. Arif said, according to witnesses including Radmanovic's wife, the perpetrators who fled the scene after the attack were speaking in English with a thick Australian accent. 'We are currently investigating the case, scouring the scene and looking for more witnesses,' Arif said.

SHAH ALAM: A trailer is believed to have lost control, causing a collision involving five other vehicles at KM32.5 of the Klang-Banting road, in front of a bank in Banting, yesterday. Kuala Langat police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Mohd Radzi said in a statement today that all victims aged between 20 and 50 were unhurt. He said in the 12.15 pm incident, a trailer travelling from Dengkil to Sungai Buaya is believed to have crashed into another trailer, causing it to hit other vehicles that were making way for a Proton Gen2 car to park by the roadside. 'Other vehicles hit were a Proton X90, Proton Persona, Proton Gen2, and a Toyota Alphard,' he said, adding that the trailer driver, in his 40s, holds a valid driver's licence and tested negative for drugs. The case is classified under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. He urged the public with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Mazrol Mohd Din, at 011-18539115 or 03-31872222 to assist in the investigation.
