Couple escapes unharmed after car catches fire on MEX

SEPANG: A man and his fiancée had a narrow escape after their Proton Gen 2 caught fire while travelling along Km21.8 of the Maju Expressway (MEX) near here this morning. The 31-year-old driver, who wished to be known only as Arif, said the incident occurred suddenly as they were leaving Cyberjaya. He recounted that his fiancée had alerted him that the brakes were not functioning properly just moments before they were forced to stop, after passing motorists began honking and pointing to smoke and flames emerging from the rear of the vehicle. "We didn't realise it at first, but people behind us kept honking. That's when we noticed the fire," he said. Six firefighters from the Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Station (PBB Cyberjaya) were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.50am. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle fully ablaze, with an estimated 95 per cent of it damaged. Both occupants managed to escape unharmed. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
