Kai of EXO on trying out new sounds in his new album 'Wait on Me'
The last time South Korean heartthrob Kai was in Singapore, it was six years ago and he was joined by his fellow members as part of EXO's Exploration Tour. Since then, a few things have changed—he gained a sassy moniker of 'Mr. Rover' with the viral release of his solo hit 'Rover' and fulfilled his mandatory military service. Now, returning as a solo artist to our shores, the EXO member is psyched about his upcoming show this week at the Star Theatre. 'Unfortunately, I can't spoil anything but once you see the show, you'll know why I couldn't say more. And once I get to Singapore, I look forward to trying out more of the local food and if I have the time, I hope I get to explore the city more.'
Assuredly, it will be a sizzling show to remember, especially with his recent album release Wait On Me , a comeback that's made even more special after a two-year hiatus in the military. Within the seven-track mini album, lies different facets of Kai. The title track 'Wait On Me', mired with a sensual trance beat, sings of desire and longing whilst the catchy electro number 'Adult Swim' serves up a cheeky bop of the summer. Kai, alone in a crop tee is proof of that.

It is the first album after my military service, so it naturally dealt with the theme of waiting–or more precisely, the art of waiting. There are many ways to interpret it, but as I mentioned above, it can be a message to my fans, and the album itself is almost like a gift after the long wait, even for me.

Yes, it is definitely a message to my fans who've stayed by my side all this time, but there can also be multiple interpretations. For instance, it could also be about the longing to be back on stage.
3 / 5 The songs within the album seem to have many influences—from afrobeats to trance, tell us what it was like trying this new sound.
I actually got to explore a lot of interesting sounds while working on this album. And as a result, I think every song in the tracklist ultimately has its own unique mood. Working with new sounds opens up my perspective every time, and it can be really inspiring!

'We confirm that Suga effectively completed his alternative service on June 18 by using his remaining leave. His official discharge date is June 21,' BTS' label, Big Hit Music, said in a statement. Unlike with his BTS bandmates, there was no public event planned to mark Suga's release because of overcrowding concerns. The seven members of the group put their global music careers on hold in 2022 to begin their military service, starting with Jin in December that year. South Korea's mandatory national service can be for terms of up to 18 months. Shortly after his official discharge, Suga posted a message on fan community platform Weverse, saying he was 'sorry for the disappointment and concern caused by what happened last year', and also apologising to his bandmates. In 2024, Suga was fined 15 million won (S$14,037) by a court for drunk driving while on an electric scooter. The group is expected to hold its largest-ever world tour in 2026, an NH Securities entertainment analyst said in a report. Entertainment group HYBE, which manages BTS, is closely monitored by securities companies. Details of a reunion have not been released. Seoul High Court rules NewJeans must honour contracts with Ador, Entertainment News
NewJeans have had their request for an appeal to be freed of their contract with record label Ador rejected. Seoul High Court ruled on Tuesday (June 17) that the K-pop girl group — comprising Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein — must honour their contracts with Ador and not embark on solo endeavours as they could be penalised for doing so. Commenting on the decision, Ador said in a statement: "We sincerely appreciate the court's decision. We hope that this ruling will serve as an opportunity for the members to return to their rightful place as NewJeans and resume their activities. As they approach their third debut anniversary next month, Ador is committed to providing full support for the artists' further growth and success." The K-pop label had suggested the girls inking independent deals could "destabilise" the South Korean music sector. Ador — which is part of the Hybe group — said: "This decision was made to prevent confusion and potential harm to third parties, including advertisers. "Allowing unilateral terminations of exclusive contracts and independent activities without legal procedures could undermine investment in the entertainment industry and destabilise the K-pop sector." In September, NewJeans accused Ador of bullying, harassment and subterfuge, and two months later, they requested their contract be terminated. However, South Korea's Ministry of Employment and Labour dismissed the harassment claims. The girls held an emergency press conference to announce their exit from Ador and warned the agency they would terminate their contract if they did not rectify breaches of their contract. In response, Ador said: "We regret that the press conference regarding the termination of the exclusive contract was planned and conducted without sufficient review, prior to receiving a response to the legal notice." Ador then filed a lawsuit against NewJeans to "clarify" that their contract "cannot be unilaterally terminated" based on their claims. The label said: "It was necessary to clarify to both the artist and all relevant stakeholders that our exclusive contract cannot be unilaterally terminated based solely on the claims from one side." Ador added: "We believe it is important to clarify any misunderstanding that the exclusive contract with the artist has been lawfully terminated, as this could lead to the artist engaging in entertainment activities in violation of the existing agreement."
