Kai of EXO on trying out new sounds in his new album 'Wait on Me'
The last time South Korean heartthrob Kai was in Singapore, it was six years ago and he was joined by his fellow members as part of EXO's Exploration Tour. Since then, a few things have changed—he gained a sassy moniker of 'Mr. Rover' with the viral release of his solo hit 'Rover' and fulfilled his mandatory military service. Now, returning as a solo artist to our shores, the EXO member is psyched about his upcoming show this week at the Star Theatre. 'Unfortunately, I can't spoil anything but once you see the show, you'll know why I couldn't say more. And once I get to Singapore, I look forward to trying out more of the local food and if I have the time, I hope I get to explore the city more.' Assuredly, it will be a sizzling show to remember, especially with his recent album release Wait On Me , a comeback that's made even more special after a two-year hiatus in the military. Within the seven-track mini album, lies different facets of Kai. The title track 'Wait On Me', mired with a sensual trance beat, sings of desire and longing whilst the catchy electro number 'Adult Swim' serves up a cheeky bop of the summer. Kai, alone in a crop tee is proof of that. Below, the EXO member shares more about the making of Wait On Me , trying out different sounds and the reactions his members had to the album. 1 / 5 Tell us more about the concept of this album. It is the first album after my military service, so it naturally dealt with the theme of waiting–or more precisely, the art of waiting. There are many ways to interpret it, but as I mentioned above, it can be a message to my fans, and the album itself is almost like a gift after the long wait, even for me. 2 / 5 With regards to the name 'Wait on Me', was that intended for your fans who have been eagerly anticipating your return from the military? Yes, it is definitely a message to my fans who've stayed by my side all this time, but there can also be multiple interpretations. For instance, it could also be about the longing to be back on stage. 3 / 5 The songs within the album seem to have many influences—from afrobeats to trance, tell us what it was like trying this new sound. I actually got to explore a lot of interesting sounds while working on this album. And as a result, I think every song in the tracklist ultimately has its own unique mood. Working with new sounds opens up my perspective every time, and it can be really inspiring! 4 / 5 Just like past performances from Kai, this album shows off plenty of cool, new dance choreography. Which track had to be your favourite to dance to and why? I like all the choreography, but I think the title song 'Wait On Me' has to be my favourite. It might be a hard dance for fans to follow, but I think the mood of the song and the choreography go really well together. It gives off a powerful and sexy vibe. They all gave me positive feedback, and they're all really supportive. When they saw the 'Wait On Me' MV, they were like, 'Ah, yes this is the classic Kai!'

EXO's Kai expands solo tour to US
Kai of EXO will take his first solo tour to the US, announced label SM Entertainment on Thursday. He is planning to visit five cities in the country — Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago and New York — from Aug. 28 to Sept. 6. The performer hinted at the expansion last month when he took to the stage for the label's group concert in Los Angeles, saying 'I might be able to meet you again this summer.' He kicked off tour 'Kaion' in May in Seoul and will have a show in Macao on Saturday. The remaining stops for the Asian leg of the tour are Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei, Manila, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Yokohama, Japan. The tour comes after the release of his fourth solo EP 'Wait On Me,' which topped the iTunes Top Albums Chart in 30 regions.

EXO's Kai, all ready to step back into the limelight, says he was ‘physically tired' after military service
EXO 's Kai has been on a hiatus and much-needed break as he returned from his mandatory military service. The idol, however, could not stay away from the limelight that long, as he recently shared key information about his future plans with fans and netizens. Kai recalls military experience The pop star recently recalled his time in the military and how he felt afterwards. During an exclusive interview with Elle, the idol revealed personal details about his life. In a comment about his time in the military, Kai shared that he was 'physically tired', but that phase of his life also made him equally strong mentally. He shared during the interview that 'I want to let fans who haven't seen me in two years know that we'll be meeting more often now. I'm physically tired, but mentally I'm incredibly happy and feel very fulfilled because I'm confident that I'm doing the best I can right now.' EXO member talks about future plans, new music and new concert Kai recently released and finished up promotional activities for his fourth solo mini album, ' Wait On Me '. The idol is now on his way to preparing for his first-ever solo concert tour titled ' KAION '. The tour is all set and ready to open up in only a few days on May 17 in Seoul, leaving fans buzzing with excitement about seeing the idol on the big stage again after so long. Kai, in the interview, admitted that while he is nervous about performing his solo songs in front of everyone, he is still ready to take on a new challenge. He shared that 'I'm nervous and excited, but above all, I feel happy. Most of my solo activities overlapped with the pandemic, so I didn't have many chances to meet fans in person.' He continued on how he is looking forward to meeting fans. He also shared that 'In the past, I focused more on myself, but now I'm definitely more focused on connecting with the fans. I really want to show them a cool performance.'

(Video) EXO Fans Cheer After Lay Zhang Reunites With Kai For 'Wait On Me' Dance Challenge
K-pop acts use dance challenges to promote their new releases, while fans see it as another opportunity for idols to interact with each other. Recently, EXO-Ls (EXO fans) cheered when they saw who Kai did his dance challenge with. EXO (엑소) member Kai (카이) recently dropped his new single 'Wait On Me' from his mini album of the same title. As such, the idol has been posting many dance challenges on social media, some with other K-pop stars like fromis9 and MEOVV. However, it was his dance challenge posted on 13th May 2025 (Tuesday) that garnered the most attention because it featured fellow EXO member Lay Zhang (张艺兴/레이). While it shouldn't be a surprise that Kai and Lay could collaborate for a video, given they're both EXO members, it's worth noting that the latter hasn't been active in the group in a long time. Lay hasn't joined many of EXO's group activities since 2021 to focus on his solo career in China. It has also been years since Kai and Lay were seen together, with some fans saying it's been six years since their last public interaction. The video has gained over 3 million views on Instagram and over 2.5 million views on TikTok in less than 24 hours. Most comments were ecstatic over seeing Kai and Lay reunite for a dance challenge, with some saying they still can't believe the video is real. Others noted that it's been a long time since Lay was seen with an EXO member, quipping that the clip is monumental for EXO fans who have been waiting for a group reunion. The video also sparked discussion of the group making a comeback later this year. Since EXO's youngest member, Sehun, will be discharged from his military service in September, some fans speculate that the K-pop group could be reuniting for a new release by the end of 2025. Some fans also hope EXO will go back on tour soon, as their last group tour was in 2019. The singer held an official showcase for fans to release and celebrate his comeback, during which he broke down on stage, shocking fans. The event was filled with a lot of excitement, with fans buzzing to meet their favorite idol. Everyone was waving around dedicated banners and lightsticks during the show.
