The Weeknd Might Not Be Retiring His Music Persona After All

Yahoo06-06-2025

The Weeknd has teased that Hurry Up Tomorrow— his sixth album and upcoming film of the same name— also marks the end of the artist fans have grown to love for over 15 years.
However, that may not necessarily be the case.
While promoting the film at CinemaCon 2025, Abel Tesfaye told EW that this moment feels like both a death and resurrection. 'It feels like it [the end of the Weeknd]. I mean, I've kind of toyed with the idea in the past with albums,' he noted. 'But it could also just be a rebirth. Who knows?'
Back in January, the 35-year-old announced plans to retire his alter ego. 'It's a headspace I've gotta get into that I just don't have any more desire for,' he explained to Variety. 'You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.'
Hurry Up Tomorrow marks the conclusion in the trilogy that began with 2020's After Hours, which was followed by 2022's Dawn FM.
The film follows a fictionalized version of himself, also named Abel, who gets taken on an insane ride by a seductive stranger, Anima (Jenna Ortega). Director Trey Edward Shults, shared with EW in February that he 'tried to make the movie in a way where, for his fans and people who want to approach it at that level, I hope it's very satisfying and you get a good meal out of it.'
Shults confirmed that it was an 'absolute possibility' that the movie would be The Weeknd's last hurrah chapter, adding 'For people that aren't his fans and don't know anything about him or even care about the final capping of the Weeknd, I think you still have a great movie to go through.'
The Weeknd considers the film to be 'really introspective and cathartic.' It hits theaters this Friday.

The Weeknd Is Stuck in Purgatory in ‘Baptized in Fear' Video

In the name of the father, the son, and the Weeknd. On Friday, the R&B icon released the video for 'Baptized in Fear,' one of the standouts from his album Hurry Up Tomorrow. The video plays clips of the Weeknd singing the haunting lyrics in front of several cement backdrops that show the star stuck in a sort of purgatory. 'I've been baptized in fear, my dear / Like Paul, I'm the chief of sin,' he sings. 'Washing my soul within.' The last video from the album came in April with 'Drive,' featuring Ortega. Hurry Up Tomorrow marked the third part of a trilogy, following 2020's After Hours and 2022's Dawn FM, with Rolling Stone calling it 'dazzling and frustrating, with moments of lyrical clarity and sonic density that stand out amidst the heavy-hearted reflections and even heavier synths.' Hurry Up Tomorrow is the final project Abel Tesfaye will release as the Weeknd. 'Everything needs to feel like a challenge. And for me right now, the Weeknd, whatever that is, it's been mastered,' Tesfaye told Variety. 'No one's gonna do the Weeknd better than me, and I'm not gonna do it better than what it is right now. 'Ted Lasso' Fan Favorite Brett Goldstein Calls Season 4 Announcement a ‘Relief'

Brett Goldstein has emerged as one of the many beloved characters in the Apple TV+ hit series Ted Lasso. He portrays the popular player-turned-coach Roy Kent, who has a gritty personality and doesn't love small talk. It seems Goldstein's disinterest in small talk during the show may translate to real life in some ways, specifically when it comes to being asked questions about Ted Lasso's future From the sound of it, Goldstein didn't exactly love fielding the constant questions on the topic of whether Ted Lasso would even return for a Season 4, before the news was officially revealed. He made that much known during a recent interview with Variety. When the topic of Goldstein no longer having to address the questions about the show's future when they arose, it sounds like they were tougher on him than the current queries he gets. "That is such a relief," Goldstein said of no longer having to answer questions about the show's future. Goldstein, who plays Louis on the hit show Shrinking, is also an executive producer and writer for the show. While he's in the same boat as the rest of the Ted Lasso cast, having to remain tight-lipped on Season 4, he did call it "exciting" to be back with the rest of the show's actors. "Obviously, I can't tell you a single thing about it, of course, but we're working on it, and it's good," he says. "It's exciting to have everyone back together." One thing fans can rejoice in is the fact that they'll be treated to more of Roy Kent in the upcoming season. Unfortunately, no specific release date has been set, but filming was slated to begin mid-July.'Ted Lasso' Fan Favorite Brett Goldstein Calls Season 4 Announcement a 'Relief' first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 18, 2025
