Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan To Be Released From Jail? His Party Leader Claims…
Last Updated:
The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to hear petitions seeking suspension of sentences for both Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in 190 million Pound Al-Qadir Trust case.
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, is likely to get bail on June 11 in the Al-Qadir Trust case, according to a senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, even as the party gears up for a fresh political battle under his leadership from behind bars.
The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to hear petitions seeking suspension of sentences for both Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in 190 million Pound Al-Qadir Trust case. The case has become a central point in the ongoing legal troubles facing the PTI founder, who has been incarcerated in prison since August 2023.
Expressing confidence that the party's founder will secure bail that day, Gohar Ali Khan, chief of Khan's political party said as quoted by news agency PTI, 'June 11 is going to be an important day for both Khan and his wife."
Speaking to ARY News, Gohar Ali Khan said that the PTI founder and his wife would receive relief when the court convenes next week. The hearing had previously been deferred at the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which sought more time to finalise its arguments.
He further said that the PTI will collaborate with opposition parties to launch a movement, which will be led by the party's patron-in-chief from jail.
He urged the opposition parties to join PTI for the sake of the country's survival and security and revealed that a strategy for the upcoming budget has been finalised. 'The party will address a press conference on June 9 regarding it," he said.
Gohar further claimed that Bushra Bibi was being held in jail without any charges to pressure the PTI founder and asserted that no deals would be made for the founder's release.
Earlier last month, Khan had said he will lead his party's upcoming protest movement against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led coalition government at the Centre, from the prison.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and a prominent leader of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Ali Amin Gandapur, earlier this week threatened to launch a full-scale movement for the cricketer-turned-politician's release after Eid Al-Adha.
What Is Al-Qadir Trust Case?
The case centers on allegations of corruption linked to the establishment of the Al-Qadir University Trust, which aimed to set up an educational institution in Jhelum's Sohawa Tehsil.
In December 2019, Imran Khan's cabinet approved a settlement with the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) regarding £190 million recovered from property tycoon Malik Riaz.
Subsequently, the Al-Qadir Trust was established, with key figures including Khan, Bushra Bibi, and close associates. The trust received 458 kanals of land from Bahria Town, a company associated with Malik Riaz, to establish the university.
However, it is alleged that the land was undervalued, and portions were transferred to individuals close to the couple, including Farah Gogi, a friend of Bushra Bibi.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a corruption reference in December 2023, accusing Khan and Bibi of causing a loss of £190 million (approximately 50 billion Pakistani rupees) to the national exchequer.
Imran Khan was arrested in May 2023 during a court appearance. On January 17, 2025, the couple was convicted.
Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison, and Bushra Bibi received a 7-year sentence. Fines of Rs 1 million and Rs 500,000 were also imposed on them, respectively.

"Thanks to the Government of India for its efforts and timely coordination with Iranian authorities. We remain committed to ensuring the safe evacuation of all remaining students, especially those from vulnerable and remote regions," the Jammu and Kashmir Students' Association said in a statement. The association also confirmed that another evacuation flight carrying Indian students is expected to arrive in the national capital around 11:30 pm.
