Best time to buy Euros for your summer holiday revealed plus how you can save £100s
CASH IN Best time to buy Euros for your summer holiday revealed plus how you can save £100s BRITS jetting off to Europe for their summer holidays could risk losing cash if they pick the wrong time to buy the currency. When heading abroad, it is not uncommon for many holiday-goers to exchange cash into the currency of the country they are travelling to. Advertisement 1 Brits risk losing money when converting sterling into euros Credit: Getty But when you convert cash from one currency to another, you could end up getting more money in return or in some instances less. Factors such as inflation and the economic stability of a country can impact how much a currency is worth. Currently, the Great British Pound (GBP) is worth more than the Euro, a currency used in many popular holiday destinations. So for example, if you had £100 and exchanged it you would get €116 in return. Advertisement While UK holiday goers currently get more money back when they swap their cash for Euros, returns have been better in previous years. Back in 2024, £1 was worth €1.18. Tony Redondo, founder of Cosomos Currency Exchange told The Sun that factors such as "soft UK economic data" and "rising geo-political tensions" is pushing the Pound to Euro exchange rate lower. Inflation fell to 3.4% in the 12 months to May, raising expectations the Bank of England could cut interest rates tomorrow, June 19. Advertisement This can lower the value of the Pound as investors seek to get higher returns elsewhere. With this in mind, Tony said that holiday goers heading to Europe before the end of the month, should buy Euros "soon". Understanding GDP and Its Impact on the Economy He said: "It might be best to buy soon to protect from any further possible downside." But the money expert said that those not travelling until the end of school holidays have no need to panic. Advertisement He said: "A calculated gamble would be to wait it out as the world moves at such a pace nowadays, that hopefully, the Pound has time to recover. "After all, in 17 out of the last 20 years, the Pound has gone up in value against the Euro in either July or August. " It is worth noting that exchange rates can go up and down. With that in mind, it may be worth checking online currency converters to see how much you can get. Advertisement MORE HOLIDAY MONEY HACKS When heading abroad there are a few hacks to ensure you don't end up losing money. Customers should avoid exchanging money at the airport as they tend to have higher fees due as they cater to a captive market. Kara Gammell, personal finance expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: 'If you have a holiday booked and want to make the most of current rates. "Don't wait to buy your travel money at the airport as you will pay a premium – and never pay for your currency with a credit card as paying on plastic means you'll be charged a 'cash advance fee". Advertisement This fee is charged on ATM withdrawals but also on transactions such as online gambling and buying foreign currency. You should also be aware that banks tend to charge customers a fee for using their debit or credit card abroad. For example, NatWest charges customers a 2.75% fee for spending your debit card abroad. That would add a £1.16 charge to the cost of a jacket which cost £42.16. Advertisement But some banks don't charge you for spending abroad. For example, Monzo does not charge its customers foreign transaction fees nor does First Direct.

Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan To Be Released From Jail? His Party Leader Claims…
Last Updated: The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to hear petitions seeking suspension of sentences for both Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in 190 million Pound Al-Qadir Trust case. Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, is likely to get bail on June 11 in the Al-Qadir Trust case, according to a senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, even as the party gears up for a fresh political battle under his leadership from behind bars. The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to hear petitions seeking suspension of sentences for both Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in 190 million Pound Al-Qadir Trust case. The case has become a central point in the ongoing legal troubles facing the PTI founder, who has been incarcerated in prison since August 2023. Expressing confidence that the party's founder will secure bail that day, Gohar Ali Khan, chief of Khan's political party said as quoted by news agency PTI, 'June 11 is going to be an important day for both Khan and his wife." Speaking to ARY News, Gohar Ali Khan said that the PTI founder and his wife would receive relief when the court convenes next week. The hearing had previously been deferred at the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which sought more time to finalise its arguments. He further said that the PTI will collaborate with opposition parties to launch a movement, which will be led by the party's patron-in-chief from jail. He urged the opposition parties to join PTI for the sake of the country's survival and security and revealed that a strategy for the upcoming budget has been finalised. 'The party will address a press conference on June 9 regarding it," he said. Gohar further claimed that Bushra Bibi was being held in jail without any charges to pressure the PTI founder and asserted that no deals would be made for the founder's release. Earlier last month, Khan had said he will lead his party's upcoming protest movement against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led coalition government at the Centre, from the prison. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and a prominent leader of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Ali Amin Gandapur, earlier this week threatened to launch a full-scale movement for the cricketer-turned-politician's release after Eid Al-Adha. What Is Al-Qadir Trust Case? The case centers on allegations of corruption linked to the establishment of the Al-Qadir University Trust, which aimed to set up an educational institution in Jhelum's Sohawa Tehsil. In December 2019, Imran Khan's cabinet approved a settlement with the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) regarding £190 million recovered from property tycoon Malik Riaz. Subsequently, the Al-Qadir Trust was established, with key figures including Khan, Bushra Bibi, and close associates. The trust received 458 kanals of land from Bahria Town, a company associated with Malik Riaz, to establish the university. However, it is alleged that the land was undervalued, and portions were transferred to individuals close to the couple, including Farah Gogi, a friend of Bushra Bibi. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a corruption reference in December 2023, accusing Khan and Bibi of causing a loss of £190 million (approximately 50 billion Pakistani rupees) to the national exchequer. Imran Khan was arrested in May 2023 during a court appearance. On January 17, 2025, the couple was convicted. Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison, and Bushra Bibi received a 7-year sentence. Fines of Rs 1 million and Rs 500,000 were also imposed on them, respectively. (With inputs from PTI) First Published: June 08, 2025, 21:30 IST

'No deals for release': Pakistan's ex-PM Imran Khan to be released from jail? What his party leaders said
File photo of Imran Khan (Pic credit: PTI) Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, is expected to secure bail on June 11 in the Al-Qadir Trust case, according to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Gohar Ali Khan. The Islamabad high court (IHC) is scheduled to hear petitions seeking suspension of sentences for both Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in 190 million Pound Al-Qadir Trust case. While Gohar did not give specifics, he called June 11 an "important day" for the couple. Khan, 72, has been jailed since August 2023 in multiple cases, including convictions that PTI alleges are politically motivated. The national accountability bureau (NAB) had earlier sought more time to prepare its arguments, prompting the IHC to adjourn the hearing to next week. PTI plans protest Gohar also revealed that PTI will launch a political movement in collaboration with opposition parties, led by Khan from inside prison. He urged political rivals to unite for the country's "survival and security." "A strategy for the upcoming budget has been finalised. A press conference on June 9 will announce our plan," he told ARY News.
