RioCan Successfully Transitions the RioCan-HBC Joint Venture into a Receivership Process to Preserve and Maximize the Value of its Assets

Yahoo03-06-2025

TORONTO, June 03, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust ("RioCan" or the "Trust") (TSX: REI.UN) announced today that a receivership process has been established to protect the interests of RioCan and the other stakeholders in the RioCan-HBC Joint Venture (the "JV"). The receivership proceeding will create a structured process within which RioCan can work with a receiver and other stakeholders to advance and execute solutions for the JV's properties to benefit the JV and its stakeholders. This includes activities such as dispositions, re-leasing and advancing potential redevelopment opportunities of individual properties. RioCan's exposure to Hudson's Bay Company ("HBC"), whether as a limited partner, secured lender or guarantor of certain JV obligations remains unchanged as a result of the receivership proceeding. For further information on the JV, please refer to RioCan's press release dated March 18, 2025, RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust Provides Update on Hudson's Bay Company's CCAA Filing.
The Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) has granted RioCan's application to appoint FTI Consulting Canada Inc. ("FTI" or the "Receiver") as the receiver over all of the assets and properties of the JV. The JV's receivership proceeding will be a single proceeding that focuses solely on the JV's assets, and advanced in parallel with the HBC Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act ("CCAA") proceeding.
FTI, as the Receiver, will immediately take steps and actions with respect to the JV and its assets in order to preserve and maximize value for the benefit of RioCan and other JV stakeholders. FTI has extensive experience in restructurings and court-appointed receivership proceedings. FTI will oversee the affairs of the JV specifically, managing the process independently of the HBC CCAA proceeding. Pursuant to the court order appointing the Receiver, the JV's leasehold and 100% owned properties will benefit from a stay of proceedings to allow the Receiver and its stakeholders sufficient time to take such steps as are necessary to effectively deal with the JV's assets. The co-owned properties of the JV will continue to be managed by RioCan in the normal course.

2 Rallying TSX Stocks You'll Wish You Bought Sooner

Written by Jitendra Parashar at The Motley Fool Canada We've all been there – you check a stock you were eyeing, and boom, it's already up 40% or 50% since you first thought about buying it. That sting of 'I should've bought it' hits hard. The good news is, most growth stories aren't over with just one rally. In fact, some TSX stocks that have surged recently still show strong momentum, supported by their improving fundamentals. In this article, let's look at two Canadian stocks that have been rallying, and why it still might not be too late to buy them for the long term. G Mining Ventures (TSX:GMIN) has seen a massive move lately but still has long-term potential written all over it. This gold miner has been up more than 117% in the last year and trades at $18.72 per share with a market cap of about $4.2 billion. G Mining is developing precious metals projects in Brazil and Guyana, anchored by its producing Tocantinzinho mine and the advancing Oko West project. In the March quarter, G Mining produced over 35,500 ounces of gold at an impressive all-in sustaining cost of US$960 per ounce. Despite some seasonal rain impacting its mining activity, the company still delivered strong free cash flow of US$36 million and net profit of US$24.4 million. Notably, its adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) hit US$68.6 million last quarter, showing how well its ramp-up is going. With its production expected to increase through the second half of 2025 as higher-grade ore becomes available, G Mining seems well on track to meet its annual guidance of up to 200,000 ounces. In addition, the company recently released a positive feasibility study for its Oko West project, suggesting an after-tax value of US$2.2 billion and a mine life of over 12 years. For long-term investors seeking exposure to a fast-growing gold producer with exploration upside and strong project economics, G Mining Ventures could be a compelling stock to consider. Another TSX stock that's been gaining solid momentum in 2025 is Aritzia (TSX:ATZ). This company's growth story is hard to ignore right now. The Vancouver-based apparel retailer is known for its portfolio of exclusive fashion brands and strong e-commerce platform. Aritzia stock has surged nearly 79% over the past year and currently trades at $67.44 per share with a market cap of $7.7 billion. In its most recent quarter (ended in February 2025), Aritzia delivered 31.3% YoY (year-over-year) sales growth with the help of strong U.S. demand and e-commerce sales. For the quarter, its adjusted earnings also shot up 156% YoY, and its adjusted EBITDA margin improved to 18% from 10.6%. Notably, the company opened 12 new boutiques in its fiscal year 2025 (ended in February), including a flagship on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, and it's not slowing down. With its net revenue expected to grow up to 19% in fiscal 2026, Aritzia is leaning into its growth drivers, even as U.S. tariffs add some complexity. For investors looking beyond the short-term market noise, this fashion stock has all the right ingredients for solid upside. Invest $20,000 in a TSX Stock, Create $1,278.98 in Passive Income

Written by Amy Legate-Wolfe at The Motley Fool Canada When inflation is high and the cost of living keeps climbing, reliable income from investments becomes more important than ever. One of the best ways to generate this income is through dividend-paying stocks on the TSX. And if I had $20,000 to invest right now, I'd seriously consider putting it into Peyto Exploration & Development (TSX:PEY). This dividend-paying energy stock offers both stability and strong returns, especially for those looking to boost their monthly cash flow. Peyto is one of Canada's most established natural gas producers. Based in Alberta, it focuses on exploration and development in the Deep Basin, an area rich in natural gas and natural gas liquids. What sets it apart is how efficiently it runs its operations. The dividend stock built a reputation for keeping costs low and margins strong. That gives it the flexibility to return more cash to shareholders, something that's especially appealing in a world where interest rates are uncertain and recession fears loom. Right now, Peyto trades for about $20.60 per share. Its annual dividend sits at $1.32 per share, which works out to a dividend yield of around 6.4%. That's far above the TSX average. So, if you were to invest $20,000 at today's price, you could buy 969 shares. At $1.32 per share annually, that means you'd receive almost $1,280 in passive income each year. That's about $107 every single month just for holding the dividend stock! COMPANY RECENT PRICE NUMBER OF SHARES DIVIDEND TOTAL PAYOUT FREQUENCY INVESTED AMOUNT PEY $20.62 969 $1.32 $1,278.98 Monthly $19,982.78 That level of income is especially appealing inside a TFSA. Because dividends in a TFSA are tax-free, every dollar of that $1,280 stays in your pocket. You don't have to worry about tax slips or losing part of your income to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It's one of the most efficient ways to generate passive income in Canada, and Peyto fits perfectly into that strategy. Looking at the company's most recent earnings, Peyto continues to perform well. In the first quarter of 2025, it reported revenue of $323.8 million and earnings per share (EPS) of $0.57. While natural gas prices have come down from their highs, Peyto remains profitable and has kept its payout ratio in check. Over the last twelve months, earnings per share came in at $1.48. This means its current dividend payout is comfortably below earnings, which suggests that the dividend is sustainable. Peyto also pays its dividend monthly, which makes budgeting much easier for investors looking to build consistent cash flow. The monthly payout has held steady at $0.11 per share for the last 12 months. That consistency is hard to find, especially in the energy sector, where prices can swing wildly. But Peyto's disciplined approach to debt and cost control helps it ride out the cycles more smoothly than some of its peers. Of course, no investment is risk-free. Peyto's business is tied closely to the price of natural gas. If prices fall sharply, earnings could take a hit. But management has a solid track record of adjusting capital spending and maintaining flexibility when needed. And even during tough times, it has shown a strong commitment to preserving its dividend. In short, if you're looking to put $20,000 to work in a way that generates meaningful monthly income, Peyto is worth a close look. With its 6.4% yield, monthly payouts, and reliable operations, it stands out as a solid TSX stock for passive income. That $1,280 a year could go a long way toward covering bills, topping up savings, or simply helping you feel more financially secure. And in times like these, that kind of peace of mind is hard to beat. The post Invest $20,000 in a TSX Stock, Create $1,278.98 in Passive Income appeared first on The Motley Fool Canada.
