Plan ahead for growing Hyderabad: Emphasises Telangana CS Ramakrishna Rao

Hyderabad, June 20 (UNI) Telangana Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao on Friday emphasised the need for proactive planning to meet the growing demands of Hyderabad and its surrounding areas.
Addressing officials during a review meeting at Shamshabad Municipality, the Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of efficient civic services like water supply, drainage, street lighting, and property tax collection.
He stated that Hyderabad's rapid urban expansion requires local bodies to plan ahead for infrastructure and basic amenities.
The review, conducted as per the directive of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, focused on improving grassroots governance and service delivery.
Following the meeting, the Chief Secretary visited key HMDA projects, including the 85-acre Eco Park at Kothwalguda, Budvel multi-use layout with direct ORR access, and the newly constructed Neopolis trumpet interchange built to AASHTO standards. These infrastructure projects, aimed at improving connectivity and livability, are set to be inaugurated soon by the Chief Minister.

Cyberabad police on Thursday filed a case based on the complaint of Telangana Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC) state social media co-convenor Durgam Srihari Goud against two X handles for allegedly running a defamatory campaign targeting the CM. According to complaint, the parody account @DigtvTelugu and meme page @GemsofBoothuKittu posted abusive, sexually suggestive content, morphed images, and false accusations, amplifying them with trending hashtags to "incite online hatred" and "damage public perception". Similarly, Cyber crime police filed a case after a OU student lodged a complaint about abusive social media posts against the CM. Valigonda Narsimha (36) alleged that an X account @GemsofBoothuKittu was publishing "highly derogatory" content against the CM and his family.

Iran's key advisory body denounces Trump's calls for Iranian surrender, says it's not an option

Tehran, June 20 (UNI) Iran's Expediency Discernment Council, a key institution in the country's political structure, has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump's remarks on Iran to either surrender or 'face the slaughter', declaring that surrender or accepting imposed peace is not an option, reports Iran International. The administrative advisory body said "Trump and the dreamers of the camp supporting the false Zionist regime must know that the surrender of the great Iranian nation or acceptance of an imposed peace is a futile illusion and an unattainable fantasy." The council reaffirmed the country's resolve to defend its national and ideological principles under the leadership of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. It criticised Trump's call for an unconditional surrender as irrational and dismissive of Iran's strength. Trump has been considering giving Israel direct US military aid, making Washington an active participant in the ongoing conflict. Iran has warned that any US interference will be met with serious repercussions, and has threatened to block the Hormuz Strait, which is crucial for global maritime trade, controlling over one-third of the world's oil supply. Blocking it could potentially give Iran an unprecedented edge in the conflict, giving it leverage. The Expediency Discernment Council (EDC) is an administrative assembly in Iran appointed by the Supreme Leader, established to resolve conflicts between the Majlis (parliament) and the Guardian Council. It was created in 1988. It plays a major role in formulating macro policies of the Islamic regime, and serves as a mediator between different branches of government and advising the Supreme Leader on key policy matters. TG to counter Banakacharla with Tummidhetti project

Hyderabad: Amid the fresh row over the Banakacharla project between AP and Telangana; the Telangana government is bracing to expedite the construction of the much-delayed Tummidihetti project to counter the Andhra Pradesh government's preemptive move to develop the controversial multi-crore Godavari-Banakacharla project. A delegation led by TG Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has already informed Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil about the government's decision to take up the Tummidihetti during the meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday. As a report of the Central Water Commission (CWC) already established the availability of adequate water for a project at Tummidihetti on Godavari, the State Irrigation wing came up with a proposal to utilize 180 TMC of water by constructing the Tummidihetti project. High-ranking official sources said that the irrigation officials were already engrossed in the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) afresh for the project for submission to the Centre soon. It may be mentioned here that the previous government had submitted a DPR to the CWS in May 2023 (before the Assembly elections in Telangana). Under the project, the then government proposed to establish a barrage across Pranahita river, a tributary of Godavari, at Tummidihetti village in Koutala mandal of Adilabad district. The main objective of the project is to provide irrigation facilities for an ayacut of 2 lakh acres in the erstwhile Adilabad district. Following regime change, the Congress government announced the revival of the Pranahita–Chevella project by constructing a barrage at Tummidihetti. 'State government decided to prepare a new DPR to utilize more than 180 TMC of water through the Tummidihetti project. The project will help Telangana utilize Godavari water. With the AP government hastening the approval process for Banakacharla and in view of the Centre's full support to the project, the Telangana government decided to mount pressure on the Centre for approval to the Tummidihetti also,' officials said, adding that Telangana had adopted a strategy to seek justice from the Centre by approving Tummihetti just as the Banakacharla project received all support. Should the Centre fail to clear the Tummidihetti project, the Telangana government would expose the double standard adopted by the Union government in approving Telangana projects on Godavari. The Chief Minister is keen to make Tummidhetti a big issue and seek central assistance for the project. Once the Tummidihetti project is approved, the abandoned Pranahita-Chevella project will come alive. Officials said that the relevant DPR would be prepared afresh and submitted to the Centre in two or three months.
