on Monday accused the
Central government
and BJP-ruled states of targeting Bengali-speaking citizens by labelling them as Bangladeshis, despite valid identification documents. She made the remarks while addressing the state assembly.
'This has been done by the double engine governments in various states. All Bengali-speaking people are not Bangladeshis,' Banerjee said.
She alleged that individuals with valid documents such as EPIC cards, PAN, and Aadhaar were being harassed. Banerjee also criticised the Centre for halting funds to Bengal under key Central schemes, including
MGNREGA
, PM Awas Yojana, and others.

According to the Chief Minister, West Bengal has long been denied wages under the 100 days job scheme. She claimed that at least 150 teams from the Centre had visited the state, and all required documentation and clarifications had been submitted, yet funds remained blocked.
'Centre didn't pay a single paisa. Bengal has been deprived in the job cards,' Banerjee said.

She further stated that the denial of funds was a political decision, not based on merit. Highlighting allegations of corruption in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and other states, she said, 'We know they will not give the money to us.'
Banerjee also accused the opposition of relying on "godi media" and using social media to spread misinformation. She said the opposition deliberately insults her whenever she is in the assembly.
Her comments triggered uproar in the House.
BJP
MLAs staged a walkout and protested outside the Assembly premises. BJP leaders objected to her remarks on social media, calling them personal attacks.
Opposition Chief Whip Shankar Ghosh said, 'Personal attack was made by CM against our MLA.' BJP MLAs Manoj Oraon and Shankar Ghosh were reportedly suspended by the Speaker following the disruption.

SIT summons BJP leader in T'gana phone-tapping case
The Special Investigation Team of the Telangana police probing the alleged phone tapping during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime, summoned a close aide of Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay for questioning in connection with the case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disclosed on Friday. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped (HT Archive) In a statement, the Telangana BJP said the SIT officials had confirmed on Friday that the phone of Bandi Sanjay's close aide and BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, Boyinapalli Praveen Rao, was tapped during the previous BRS regime. 'The SIT authorities called up Praveen Rao and informed him that his phone number was also in the list of those which were tapped. They said they would summon him shortly, and he would be required to appear before the investigating authorities for questioning,' the BJP said. Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, too, confirmed that he had received the information from the investigating authorities that his phone, too, was tapped during the previous regime. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped. 'Now, the investigation has revealed that the phones of his staff and close associates were also tapped,' it said. The party said Praveen Rao has been a long-time associate of Bandi Sanjay and had managed Sanjay's election campaigns in the past. 'In recent years, Praveen Rao has served as Sanjay's personal assistant and the BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, coordinating constituency tours and supervising the execution of various programmes,' it said. It said Praveen Rao had taken part in the agitations of Sanjay during the BRS regime against forcible implementation of GO 317 (on employees' transfers), leakage of Class 10 examination paper, communal violence at Bhainsa and other such incidents. 'He was even named as a co-accused in several public agitation-related cases alongside Sanjay,' the party said. Premender Reddy also said the SIT authorities had informed him, too, that his phone was also tapped during the BRS regime. 'I shall hand over all the evidence and other details of my mobile phone to the Jubilee Hills police on Monday,' he said, adding that if the police did not take any action even after gathering all the details, the state government would be held responsible.

OSHEC without a permanent vice-chairperson for around a year
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) has not had a permanent vice-chairperson for nearly a year. Also, the term of the council's 15 members ended this year. The council became headless after the tenure of OSHEC vice-chairman Asoka Kumar Das ended in Aug last year. He received an extension before leaving office. To manage the affairs, higher education secretary Aravind Agrawal is in-charge of the council. The council's main mandate is to develop policies, educational reform-based schemes, and advise the state govt on achieving excellence and inclusivity in the higher education process and student outcomes, according to the OSHEC Act. The council also takes up a coordinating role with state universities for novel higher educational reform initiatives, depending on the need. It initiates and executes state-specific quality initiatives and brings together vice-chancellors and other eminent academicians on one platform to come up with common innovative solutions on issues. Jayanta Mohapatra, former vice-chancellor of Berhampur University, said the council has a big role in preparing a common syllabus for undergraduate courses, conducting academic audits, monitoring research works, and scrutinising Mukhyamantri Research Innovation (MRI). "Its role is important in the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and other programmes in higher education institutions. It cannot become a defunct body. The vice-chairman of the council is a key figure who oversees the functioning of the council and takes important decisions related to the development of higher education in the state. Steps should be taken to address this issue," he added. Higher education secretary Aravind Agrawal could not be contacted for a reaction on the issue despite repeated attempts.

Patil writes to CM on mining scams, BJP questions timing
Bengaluru/Raichur: Law minister HK Patil has written a detailed letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah expressing deep concern over the govt's failure to act on thousands of illegal mining cases that allegedly led to a loss of Rs 1.5 lakh crore between 2007 and 2011. In a seven-page letter dated June 18, Patil criticised the "administrative apathy" in handling these cases and called for stern action against the culprits and recovery of lost public wealth. He reminded Siddaramaiah of the 320-km foot march to Ballari in 2010 against illegal mining when the Congress was in opposition. Patil, who headed the cabinet sub-committee on illegal mining during Siddaramaiah's previous term (2013–18), noted in the letter that only 7.6% of more than 12,000 registered illegal mining cases have been investigated so far. "In just 2 per cent of these seven per cent, which means in only 0.2 per cent of the total number of cases, verdicts have come and cases have seen a conclusion," he further added. In Raichur, Patil on Saturday said, "I have brought it to the notice of the CM about what has to be done. The letter is written in the interest of the state and its people. The chief minister has seen the letter and has taken the matter seriously."
