NewFest Sets LGBTQ Shorts Collection For AMC+ ‘Future of Film' Pride Month Initiative
As NewFest kicks off its fifth annual Pride film series in New York City, the country's largest LGBTQ film festival is teaming up with AMC Networks.
Part of the network's 'Future of Film' initiative, which showcases emerging talent from festivals across the country, NewFest has curated a collection of six shorts by LGBTQ filmmakers to stream on AMC+ during Pride Month.

JoJo Siwa is reflecting on her coming out experience "I kind of boxed myself in," she told the Daily Mail's YOU Magazine in a new interview Siwa is currently dating Chris Hughes, who she met while starring on Celebrity Big Brother Siwa is opening up about her coming out experience. In a new interview with the Daily Mail's YOU Magazine, the Dance Moms alum reflected on previously feeling pressured to come out as a lesbian. "When I came out at 17, I said: 'I'm pansexual, because I don't care [about gender].' But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said: 'I'm a lesbian.' And I think I did that because of pressure," Siwa, 22, told the publication. She noted that she felt the pressure came "in a weird way" from "inside the [LGBTQ] community at times." "From people I know, from partners I've had," said Siwa. "You just get put in this world where you feel like, because you now have said, 'Oh, I'm a lesbian', you have to be a lesbian. And the truth is, sexuality is fluid." In 2021, Siwa came out as LGBTQ, but during her appearance on CBB earlier this year, where met now-boyfriend Chris Hughes, she reflected on her sexuality again. "I feel, like, so queer, do you know what I mean?" she told Danny Beard, her costar and a RuPaul's Drag Race UK alum. Added Siwa: "I've always told myself I'm a lesbian, and I think being here I've realized: 'Oh, I'm not a lesbian, I'm queer.' And I think that's really cool." She added that she was "switching letters," referring to the letters in LGBTQ. "I've dropped the L and I've gone to the Q baby! JoJo Siwa cancels Pride concert
JoJo Siwa has pulled the pin on her appearance at a Pride festival in Chicago. Siwa was scheduled to take the stage on 29 June at Back Lot Bash, a music festival set to coincide with Chicago's Pride weekend. The Dance Moms alum has yet to address disappointed fans herself, although the show's organisers blamed a "scheduling conflict" on her no-show. The Pride cancellation comes after the former child star admitted last week that she felt pressured by past partners and the LGBTQ+ community to define herself as a lesbian. "When I came out at 17, I said, 'I'm pansexual,' because I don't care," she told the Daily Mail. "But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said, 'I'm a lesbian.' And I think I did that because of pressure. "Where did that pressure come from? In a weird way, I think it came a little bit from inside the community at times. From people I know, from partners I've had." Siwa is now in a blossoming relationship with her Celebrity Big Brother UK cast-mate Chris Hughes. Hughes, a British TV personality who found fame on Love Island, is the first man she's publicly dated since coming out in 2021. This cancellation follows the postponement of Siwa's US tour dates. JoJo announced that news on her tour website last week. "I've got some news that breaks my heart to share. My US tour has to be postponed. I promise I'll be back before you know it to perform for all the beautiful people in the US."
