Blue Jays place Bowden Francis (shoulder) on 15-day IL
June 17 - The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Bowden Francis on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a right shoulder impingement.
The 29-year-old Francis has fashioned a 2-8 record with a 6.05 ERA in 14 starts. He failed to get through four innings in any of his three starts in June, when he surrendered 12 earned runs, 13 hits and 10 walks in just 8 2/3 innings.
In addition to placing Francis on the IL (retroactive to Sunday), the Blue Jays designated veteran reliever Erik Swanson for assignment. The 31-year-old appeared in only six games this season, but gave up nine runs in 5 1/3 innings for a 15.19 ERA. The one-time strikeout artist managed just three punchouts versus five walks.
To fill their spots on the active roster, Toronto promoted versatile right-hander Paxton Schultz and lefty reliever Justin Bruihl from Triple-A Buffalo.
Schultz, 27, authored a remarkable major league debut on April 20 when he threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and no walks against Seattle. He compiled a 3.06 ERA in eight appearances with 24 strikeouts and four walks across 17 2/3 innings before returning to Buffalo. He could serve as the Blue Jays' opener in Wednesday's game against Arizona.
Bruihl, 27, has made 79 appearances since making his big-league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021. He has posted a 2-2 record with a 4.62 ERA and one save between the Dodgers (2021-23), Colorado Rockies (2023) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2024).
With Triple-A Buffalo this season, Bruihl has made 25 relief appearances and compiled a 3-3 record with a 3.81 ERA and two saves. He has fanned 36 and issued 10 unintentional walks over 28 1/3 innings.

Rays' Hunter Bigge hit by line drive while in dugout, carted off
Concern was obvious from everyone on the field. The Orioles' broadcast said the ball left Rutschman's bat at 105 mph. Bigge was placed onto a backboard and taken from the field on a cart. He was wearing a neck brace and appeared to be bleeding significantly, per photos from the scene. He did give a thumbs-up to the crowd and Cash told reporters that Bigge never lost consciousness. Cash said that Bigge was struck on the side of his face. Horrible scene in Tampa, as Rays pitcher Hunter Bigge was hit in the face by a 105 mph foul ball while in the dugout. He was stretchered off the field and gave a thumbs up as he exited. White Sox take opener vs. Blue Jays to end 8-game slide
June 21 - Luis Robert Jr. hit a two-run home run, Tyler Alexander pitched four scoreless relief innings and the visiting Chicago White Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 on Friday night. Andrew Benintendi added a solo shot and had two RBIs while Josh Rojas contributed two RBIs for the White Sox, who ended an eight-game losing streak by taking the opener of a three-game series. Bo Bichette had three hits and an RBI for the Blue Jays, who have lost two in a row. Spencer Turnbull (1-1) was making his first start as a Blue Jay and his first pitch to Benintendi with one out in the first was a center-cut fastball that was hit over the right field wall. Grant Taylor was the White Sox' opener, making his first major league start, and pitched one perfect inning. Scheduled starter Davis Martin was put on the injured list with a right forearm strain. Taylor was replaced by Alexander (4-7), who scattered four hits with two strikeouts. Chicago added two runs in the second. Lenyn Sosa tripled against the center field wall on a drive that eluded Jonatan Clase and right fielder Addison Barger had trouble retrieving the ball. Austin Slater hit a two-out RBI single, Rojas singled, Chase Meidroth walked and Benintendi hit an RBI single to right. Rojas also tried to score on the hit but was thrown out at home. Miguel Vargas walked to open the third. Mason Fluharty replaced Turnbull, and one out later, Robert hit a mammoth homer to left on a 1-0 sweeper. Turnbull allowed four runs, five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in his two-plus innings, but Chicago was not finished in the third. Sosa and Slater walked and Rojas slammed a two-run double to the right field wall beyond Barger's leap. Fireworks from Rangers stars power win over Pirates
June 21 - Adolis Garcia had three hits, including a home run and two RBI and made two great diving catches in right field to help the Texas Rangers beat the host Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 on Friday night. Garcia went 3-for-4 and his efforts backed up a strong outing by starter Jacob deGrom (7-2), who pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven on 84 pitches. The Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak and handed the Pirates their fifth loss in their past six games. Marcus Semien and Jonah Heim each had two hits for Texas while Corey Seager hit his seventh home run of the season and first since returning from the injured list on May 28th. Joey Bart led Pittsburgh with three hits and an RBI and Nick Gonzales also had two hits. The Pirates mustered nine hits overall, but all were singles. The Rangers struck immediately in the first inning against Pirates rookie starter Mike Burrows (1-2) when Josh Smith and Sam Haggerty opened the game with back-to-back singles. On Haggerty's liner to center field, the ball bounced off Oneil Cruz resulting in a costly error that allowed Smith to score. Haggerty then scored on a wild pitch. Burrows gave up four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four over 4 2/3 innings. Garcia's ninth homer of the season in the fourth inning pushed the Rangers' lead to 3-0. Pittsburgh answered with four singles and a walk -- all with two outs -- off deGrom. Adam Frazier's single scored Spencer Horwitz to cut the deficit to 3-2. deGrom struck out Alexander Canario to end the inning. Seager's solo home run in the fifth pushed the Rangers' lead to 4-2 and added another in the seventh when Semien tripled and Garcia followed with a double. Pirates reliever Ryan Borucki appeared to suffer an injury during his appearance in the top of the ninth inning. Borucki exited after facing four batters following a slight stumble as he finished his delivery on a pitch to Evan Carter.
