Drake reveals losing $8 Million in sports gambling, weeks after betting $750K on Royal Challengers Bengaluru: ‘So fried right now'

Indian Express6 hours ago

Drake, apart from music, is known for his high-stakes sports gambling. From the NBA to cricket, the Canadian rapper's presence at major global events, often tied to his infamous 'Drake curse' is hard to miss, especially with huge amounts at stake. However, while he may make it look easy, the rapper recently opened up about the downside of such gambles and revealed that he lost a massive $8 million in a month. He didn't mention which games exactly wiped him out, but last month, the NBA and NHL playoff season were in full swing. Drake even recently put a risky bet on Royal Challengers Bangalore during the IPL 2025 finale, where the team surprisingly ended up winning after 18 years.

On June 18, the rapper took to Instagram Stories and shared a screenshot of his latest financial losses, saying, 'Gotta share the other side of gambling… Losses are so fried right now.' Over the past month alone, the rapper has reportedly placed nearly $125 million in bets. One of those bets was a massive $50 million wager placed last week, where he ended up losing $5 million. He continued, 'I hope I can post a big win for you all soon, cause I'm the only one that has never seen a max these guys max once a week.' Drake had earlier placed a $750,000 bet on a cricket match, backing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru against the Punjab Kings. A few months back, he put $1.25 million on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL playoffs. They lost badly. He lost even worse.

Fans are even joking that his curse turned on him instead, and the Toronto-based rapper didn't shy away from accepting that fact as well. He even joked in a recent promo video for Stake, his betting partner, with whom he is currently locked in a one-year endorsement deal, that he's a flawed sports bettor. In the video, he said, 'I will not deny that. That's not my gift. I'll let everybody roll with it. I'm sure if you're a Drake curse believer, there will be plenty more content in the future to confirm your theories because my slips do not cash out. But one day I'm gonna have a parlay that's insane.'

Last month, the Hotline Bling crooner, to everyone's surprise, actually blamed Justin Bieber for one of his failed bets. Drake had placed $1 million on the Maple Leafs again, and Bieber showed up during the game. The team lost. Drake wrote 'Bieber curse' in a story, blaming him for the loss. But despite this, Drake admits he is not the 'gambling king'. He openly admits that Michael Jordan beats everyone, calling him the 'real-life gambling GOAT (greatest of all time)', saying that he has an ability to 'gamble on anything.' Drake said MJ once wouldn't stop betting him during a ping-pong match—'$10,000, $20,000, again and again.'
Meanwhile, some netizens weren't exactly kind to Drake's recent admission of loss. Many called him out for throwing away millions while people are struggling to survive. One user called him a 'Certified Loser Boy,' and others labelled him a gambling addict.

The much-anticipated film, led by Dhanush , Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna , officially hit theatres today (June 20, 2025), and early reactions hint at a promising box office run. Directed by Shekar Kammula, Kuberaa is a high-stakes socio-political drama that pits ambition, power, and conscience against each other. Adding to the film's intensity is actor Jim Sarbh in a villainous role, alongside Dalip Tahil . On which OTT will Kuberaa release? With a production budget of Rs 120 crore, the film has reportedly recovered nearly half of its cost through OTT and satellite rights alone — with Amazon Prime Video and Star Maa bagging the digital and TV rights, respectively. He shared that the OTT platform allegedly warned that a Rs 10 crore deduction would be imposed if Kuberaa missed its scheduled June 20 launch. He added that despite his request for a delay due to post-production challenges, the response was firm: release on time or lose a chunk of the deal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Filmed simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, and dubbed in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, Kuberaa has been carefully positioned as a pan-India release.
