UDST receives ‘Great Place to Work' recognition for 3rd consecutive year

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) has been certified as a 'Great Place to Work' for the third consecutive year, following an independent and rigorous evaluation by Great Place to Work Middle East.
The certification process includes an anonymous survey completed by employees and a comprehensive evaluation of organisational practices. This ensures that the recognition is based on genuine employee experiences, providing both job seekers and stakeholders with a credible indicator of an exceptional work environment.

Aspiring scientists sharpen their skills at WCM-Q biomedical training programme
Tribune News Network Doha Four aspiring biomedical scientists have gained key research skills by completing the 2025 cycle of Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar's (WCM-Q) Biomedical Research Training Programme (BRTP) for nationals. The interns who participated in this year's programme are Raghad Rabie El Ghali, Hadeel Alashwal, Maryam Ali, and Sara Muhamed Saleh. The programme is designed to give Qatari nationals and long-term residents who have recently graduated from college a firm foundation in practical laboratory and research administration skills, and experience conducting real clinical research projects while working alongside WCM-Q's highly qualified scientific faculty in the college's state-of-the-art laboratories. To celebrate their successful completion of the programme, the interns were presented with certificates at a special graduation ceremony. This year marks the 13th annual cycle of the Biomedical Research Training Programme for Nationals, which was launched in 2011. To date, the programme has helped 62 graduates, including this year's cohort, take their first steps toward successful careers in research. Dr Khaled Machaca, professor of physiology and biophysics/senior associate dean for research, innovations, and commercialization at WCM-Q, said: 'I am honoured to congratulate our latest cohort of talented graduates from the Biomedical Research Training Programme. These impressive young scientists have dedicated the last 10 months to acquiring the skills and knowledge needed to become not only exceptional scientists but also vital contributors to Qatar's thriving biomedical research sector. I wish them every success in the next stages of their careers.' This year's BRTP interns are graduates of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, the University of Zhengzhou in China, and the International Medical University in Malaysia. Tembela Eweje, associate director, grants, contracts and research training, said: 'This programme is more than just training; it's about building a diverse and capable biomedical workforce for Qatar. The programme is designed to equip emerging scientists with critical skills and provide the mentorship they need for their careers after completion. During the graduation ceremony, our trainees expressed their excitement about the future and their eagerness to engage in activities that will help them gain the expertise needed to lead transformative research. One trainee mentioned that the program provided them with what they would equate to about 10 years of experience in just 10 months.' The programme has become an established bridge for college graduates to transition to the workplace and kickstart successful careers in research. Graduates from previous cycles have gone on to publish in leading journals and have been accepted to graduate school programmes in Qatar and abroad, while others have established careers in research at prestigious institutions across Qatar and the region.

‘Tanawwo' sparks int'l collaboration in precision health and genomics
Tribune News Network Doha 'Tanawwo', a newly launched global network by the Qatar Precision Health Institute (QPHI), seeks to revolutionise the field of precision health and genomics. Named after the Arabic word for 'diversity', the initiative reflects its mission to unite researchers, clinicians, and experts from around the world to advance collaborative genomics research. Launched in December 2024 following a two-day workshop in Doha titled 'Setting up Large-scale Programmes to Empower Precision Health', Tanawwo' brought together participants from over 17 countries to explore innovations in biobanking and predictive genomics for public health. As a regional leader in genomics, Qatar is playing a key role in shaping the global dialogue. 'This workshop shows how different perspectives can come together for something bigger,' said Dima Darwish, Genomics Education Expert at QPHI. 'Qatar is proud to lead in genomics, and we are excited to invite scientists and policymakers from around the world to join us on this journey.' Tanawwo' aims to ensure long-term collaboration beyond workshops. It offers members a platform to share resources, co-develop research, and collectively tackle pressing global health challenges. Its inclusive nature brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds—across disciplines, sectors, and nations—enabling ethical data integration, protecting patient privacy, and driving real-world clinical applications. Following its debut in Doha, a second Tanawwo' workshop was hosted in Algeria in May 2025. This session introduced participants to advanced computational techniques for genomic sequence analysis, gene prediction, variant calling, and data visualisation. It also offered a foundational overview of bioinformatics and its applications in clinical genomics and pharmacogenomics. Darwish emphasised that Tanawwo' is just beginning. PHCC receives 16,867 visitors at on-call health centres during Eid Al Adha holiday
Tribune News Network Doha The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) announced that its health centres received 16,867 visitors during the Eid Al Adha holiday period from June 5 to 9, 2025. Services were provided through 21 on-call health centres located across various regions. The services offered included specialised clinics, urgent care units, and telemedicine consultations, all aimed at ensuring the continuity of healthcare for both citizens and residents. The reported total includes all visitors received at Family Medicine Clinics, which stood at 7,528 patients, while General Dentistry Clinics received 896 visitors. This figure also covers all cases handled by the Urgent Care Units in 12 health centres, namely: Al Mashaf, Al Sadd, Abu Baker Al Siddiq, Al Ruwais, Al Sheehaniya, Al Kaaban, Gharrafat Al Rayyan, Rawdat Al Khail, Muaither, Umm Slal, Leabaib, and Al Karaana. These units attended to a total of 6,560 cases, each managed according to its specific medical urgency. The PHCC said that a number of specialized clinic services were also made available during the holiday, including: • Ophthalmology Clinic: 241 visitors • ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) Clinic: 215 visitors • Dermatology Clinic: 207 visitors • Pre-Marital Screening Clinic: 36 visitors These services were provided at the Leabaib, Rawdat Al Khail, Al Mashaf, and Al Wajbah health centres. Additionally, pharmacy, radiology, and laboratory services were available throughout the holiday. PHCC's Community Call Centre also delivered 455 virtual medical consultations (both video and audio) via the '16000' hotline, helping expedite care for urgent cases and ensuring timely prescriptions without delay. The PHCC emphasised its commitment to welcoming patients without delay at all on-call centres, maintaining minimal waiting times in line with the National Health Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030. It reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to provide the highest quality healthcare services, strengthening the overall healthcare system in the country.
