The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team is tracking showers and thunderstorms Thursday evening before a similar weather day on Friday.
Notes from the meteorologist:
The afternoon has been partly sunny with temperatures. in the 80s at the beaches to the low to mid 90s inland. Storms are firing well inland & moving N/NE & will overspread the viewing area into the early evening.
There will be areas of very heavy rain, gusty winds & frequent lightning. A few of the strongest storms may produce wind gusts 50+ mph & some hail.
Friday will again be hot & humid with scattered showers & storms at just about anytime, but most likely in the afternoon lasting well into the evening as a cool front approaches.
The weekend will be very nice with much lower humidity, allowing overnight lows to fall well down into the 60s… even some 50s for inland SE Ga. while afternoon highs reach the upper 80s.

Powerball ticket worth $250,000 is sold in North Carolina. Here's where

A Powerball player just missed the jackpot — but still scored a huge prize in North Carolina. The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the June 16 drawing. Since the person spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option, their $50,000 prize rose to $250,000, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and on X, formerly known as Twitter. The winning numbers: white balls 17-21-23-27-52, with red Powerball 19. So, where was the lucky ticket sold? It came from the Food Lion grocery store in Dunn, a roughly 40-mile drive south from Raleigh, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News via email. The player won big after their $3 ticket matched four white balls and the red ball. The 5X multiplier also was drawn, which increased the prize amount for people who opted for Power Play. While the Dunn player has a lot to celebrate, their ticket was was one number from scoring the jackpot prize. No one hit the jackpot, which stood at an estimated $90 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website. Officials shared news of the win early June 17, before the lucky ticket holder would have been able to claim their prize. In North Carolina, Powerball winners have about six months to cash in, rules show. What to know about Powerball To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball. The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338. Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state. Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online. Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Air India Flight From Ahmedabad to London Canceled Days After Fatal Crash

An Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London has been canceled days after the fatal crash that killed 241 people on board. There was no official comment on the cause of the cancellation, but Indian news channel CNN News18 reported it was due to "technical issues." The canceled plane for was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner-the same type of aircraft as the one that crashed last week, according to data from FlightRadar. Tuesday's incident comes five days after the Air India crash in Ahmedabad, when a London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed minutes after taking off. The crash killed 241 people on board and a further 29 on the ground in what was one of India's worst ever aviation disaster. Investigators are studying the two black boxes recovered from the crash site. Experts from India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau are probing the crash with assistance from the U.K., the U.S. and officials from Boeing. In a separate incident on Monday, an Air India pilot turned back his Delhi-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to Hong Kong airport as a precaution shortly after taking off, citing a technical issue, Indian media reported. Flight tracking data showed the pilot turning Flight AI315 around less than 30 minutes into the flight from Hong Kong as reported by Indian news agencies IANS and ANI. Newsweek has contacted Air India for comment. The nature of the technical issue was not immediately clear. This is a breaking news story-more to follow.
