Jaipur: Passengers on the Air India Express flight IX 196 from Dubai to Jaipur on June 13 were stuck for five hours without air conditioning, while the flight failed to take off due to technical errors.

The midnight ordeal faced by those on board was shared by social media influencer Arzoo Sethi, who was on the flight, and who said in a video she posted on social media platforms that her three-year-old son, like many others, was sweating profusely and feeling nauseous due to suffocation.
Sethi alleged that if the flight was facing technical issues, the airline should have asked passengers to sit in the airport lobby.
However, she said, this was not done.
"We were seated in the flight at 7pm and were stranded inside for 5+ hours with no AC, no communication, and zero assistance from the crew. All our co-passengers were distressed, sweating in the heat, with no clarity on what was happening," said Sethi. She added that after the Ahmedabad flight crash, "this felt even more terrifying".
"How can the same issues be repeated without accountability? This is a serious safety lapse.
Please take responsibility for your passengers' well-being before it's too late," she added.
The flight was scheduled to fly from Dubai to Jaipur on June 13 at 7:25pm, but due to a technical fault, it could only take off at 12:44am and reached Jaipur at 2:44am.
Passengers said while they were suffocating inside the aircraft without air conditioning, many of them were not even provided with drinking water.
When contacted, an Air India Express spokesperson told TOI, "We haven't received any update from the Dubai team regarding this issue yet. We are looking into the matter."

Bathinda cyclist conquers Africa: 10,856 km in 221 days

Bathinda: A farmer from Bathinda's Ghudda village, Amritpal Singh , known as Ghudda Singh, has achieved an extraordinary feat, cycling 10,856 km across 11 African countries in 221 days. His journey, spanning nearly eight months, saw him traverse diverse and often challenging terrains, including jungles, mountains, and deserts. The 34-year-old farmer, who shares 12 acres of land with his brother, embarked on his African adventure on Oct 1, 2024, from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He concluded his ride on June 11, 2025, at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, marking 221 days and 10,856km on his bicycle. He normally covered 40 to 100 km daily, adjusting his distance based on the terrain. His route took him through Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. He trekked to and from Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa's highest peak, during his expedition. Ghudda Singh's main motivation for choosing Africa was to challenge prevailing misconceptions about the continent. "I wanted to tap the less tapped places and wanted to break the myth about African countries," he told TOI upon his return. He described countries like Rwanda as "very beautiful and clean", citing its strict plastic ban, and highlighted Botswana as "the land of elephants". His experience, according to him, far exceeded his initial perceptions. This African expedition is not Ghudda Singh's first long-distance cycling venture. In 2022, he cycled across six Middle Eastern countries – Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait – over four months with a friend. His passion for cycling began about five years ago with local rides in Punjab, evolving into cross-India tours, including the Northeast and Leh. "For my extensive journeys, I invested in a durable, USA-manufactured Surly bicycle, costing Rs 2 lakh," he said. Married with an eight-year-old daughter who shares his interest in travel, Ghudda Singh now eyes Europe for his next cycling adventure after spending time with his family. Villagers describe him as a "multifaceted personality" – a cyclist, writer, and vlogger who has experienced the world firsthand. BOX Discovering Punjabi heritage Beyond personal accomplishment, Ghudda Singh used his journey to document his experiences through vlogs and explore the history and culture of Punjabis in Africa. He discovered that Punjabis were brought to Kenya as early as 1890 for railway construction and, through hard work, established major businesses and became skilled workers across the continent. "Punjabis have vast farms running into hundreds and thousands of acres in various countries, cultivating maize, sugarcane, and wheat, and have even set up industries. Some take bicycles from Ludhiana to sell there," he said, adding that he came across no Punjabi in labourer-type jobs. MSID:: 121972952 413 |

As a result, the same aircraft, which was scheduled to operate the return leg from Pune to Delhi, was grounded for safety checks, and the flight was cancelled. ''Flight AI2470 scheduled to operate from Pune to Delhi on June 20 has been cancelled due to a bird-hit which was detected after the incoming flight landed safely at Pune. The aircraft has been grounded to carry out extensive checks. Air India flight to Vietnam returns to Delhi; ‘precautionary measure,' says airline

An Air India flight from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam returned mid-air on Thursday due to a precautionary technical concern, the airline said. Flight AI388 landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers disembarked, following which a replacement flight departed later the same day. 'Air India flight AI388 from Delhi to Ho Chi Minh City has returned to Delhi as a precautionary measure. The flight landed safely back in Delhi and all passengers have been disembarked and served refreshments while an alternative aircraft with fresh crew has been arranged to fly the passengers to Ho Chi Minh City,' an Air India spokesperson said. The spokesperson added, 'We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers. At Air India, the safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority.' According to Flightradar24 data, the flight departed at around 1.45 pm before returning to Delhi shortly after. A source in the airline said the replacement aircraft took off for Ho Chi Minh City at around 7 pm. The development comes amid a slew of cancellations and disruptions experienced by the airlines. On Monday, an Air India flight headed to Delhi had to return to Hong Kong because of a technical issue. The flight, AI315, was a Boeing 788. On the same day, an Air India Express flight bound for Ranchi returned to Delhi airport owing to a suspected technical issue. On June 13, an Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi returned to Phuket and made a precautionary landing after receiving a bomb threat. The cancellations and disruptions follow the deadly crash of Air India's London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner near Ahmedabad airport.
