Unhelpful Sayings People Have Heard

Sometimes things are better left unsaid, at least in these cases. Reddit user Ancient-Designer135 recently asked, "What's a saying you've heard that is totally unhelpful?" Here's what people had to say, and it's hard not to find a lot of these *so* relatable:
"Everything happens for a reason. I hate that saying. It's so untrue."
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. No, it certainly doesn't. It may in some cases, but there are lots of scarred people out there for whom life's challenges have not made them stronger."
"People have it worse than you. OK, and? I can still feel upset about my circumstances!"
"Follow your passion. Great advice for people with a passion. Terrible advice for those whose interests aren't so concentrated into one thing."
"It's always in the last place you look. Well, yeah."
"Sleep when the baby sleeps."
"Money can't buy happiness. I'm sure I'd be happier with too much money than not enough."
"It could be worse."
"It could also be better."
"Just be yourself. Yeah, it turns out that I'm very unpleasant."
"Calm down. No one has ever actually calmed down hearing that."
"Work hard and you'll be rewarded."
"Jump, and the net will appear. I'm all for being optimistic, but what?"
"Have you tried [obvious thing]? Always said by someone who has no idea what you're going through and/or what you're doing to try to make it better."
"I'm sorry you feel that way. So, you're not sorry for the thing you did then."
"Watch your tone. I had a tone? If I did, then I didn't know it, but I certainly have one now."
"People have adopted the quote from Star Wars: 'Do or do not. There is no try,' and it bothers the hell out of me. Sometimes all you can do is try. Why are we discrediting all of the effort people put into the things they do? Granted, I heard it a lot more when I was younger, not so much nowadays, but it has always bothered me."
"You know, back in the year XXXX, this cost this much. So really, if you account for inflation, it's accurately priced. OK, who cares how much something used to cost? I can't pay that now. That won't make when I pay more today feel any better."
"He or she is in a better place."
"If you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best. If you're going to be a bad person, I don't want to be with you."
"I'm guilty of it too, but 'it is what it is.'"

Today's Trends That Won't Age Well In A Decade

The other day, I looked back at old photos of myself from nearly 10 years ago. Let's just say my hair, makeup, and clothes certainly did not stand the test of time. It didn't help that I overfilled my eyebrows into super dark, thick blocks in 2016. I can only imagine the things we'll cringe at in another 10 years, but it looks like the internet already has its guesses. In one Reddit thread (which you can see here), people shared the modern trends they think everyone will regret in a decade, and I'm curious as to what you think. I've rounded up 18 different responses below: "Young people getting botox. That is a fucking SLIPPERY slope." –obviouslyanonymous7 "Buccal fat removal." "Brazilian butt lifts." "People posting their entire lives and intricacies on social media." –ForeverYoungB "Shoe-horning 'AI' into every product and service…whether it needs it or not." "I'm hearing a lot of ads for Speechify. Nothing against the technology, it has helpful applications. I listen to audiobooks frequently myself. But with the way reading comprehension scores are looking in this country, it might not be the best for everything all the time. I hate to think we might eventually be living in a country where literacy is an old person thing, the same way illiteracy once was." "I'm hoping that we will think the use of plastic and Styrofoam for everything was ridiculous." –jaeger-the-great "Toxic positivity! 'Good vibes only' mantras and all that crud. When in fact it is healthy to feel sadness or anger and deal with our negativity." "Tattoos of anything referencing a current event in your life. There's already a lot of people who regret a name who's no longer in their life." "Painting and decorating everything gray. It ages faster than any design and architectural trend in history. I can't stand the way colors die from it all!" –freekin-bats11 "Normalizing dysfunction and calling it empowerment." "Attacking and criminalizing knowledge." "Lip filler." "I think people will look back on photos and realize they were 'lip filler blind.' Much like how people now make fun of how they used to make their eyebrows extremely dark and bushy, and call it 'eyebrow blind.' Same with 'blush blindness' by applying too much blush."–accomplished_elk4332 "Ghosting." "Crop tops and pregnancy." "Nicotine pouches. Vaping." –SmellOfParanoia "Mullets. They looked just as stupid in the 80s." "Spending ridiculous amounts on bachelor's/bachelorette's weekends. Weddings, proms, prom-posals, proposals, and gender reveals included." Can you think of a modern trend that belongs on this list? Let me know in the comments!
