Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the well-being of the people continues to be the core priority of his administration.
Advertisement This year, RM162.42 million has been allocated to the Community Development and People's Wellbeing Ministry and its agencies to carry out a range of direct-impact social programmes. A total of RM76.29 million is channelled to assist target groups such as persons with disabilities (PWD), senior citizens, single mothers, children and orphans, while RM956,000 goes to wellness programmes on family, consumerism, women's development and healthy lifestyles. RM550,000 was also allocated to Pemadam Sabah to address drug abuse, especially among students, and Hajiji thanked the Federal Government and KPWKM for continued aid, including RM300,000 in flood relief and RM2.1 million for 384 temporary evacuation centres. He said the RM330 million in federal financial aid for Sabah this year includes RM315 million already distributed to over 45,000 recipients through the Social Welfare Department.

RM200,000 allocated under RTP 2026 for further upgrades at Kota Sentosa Hospital

KUCHING (June 21): An allocation of RM200,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2026 grant has been disbursed for further upgrading works on Kota Sentosa Hospital. This was announced by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap at a recent ceremony held to mark the completion of an earlier RTP project worth RM400,000 at the hospital. 'This project may seem modest in scale, but its impact has been truly significant, addressing two critical needs of the hospital that have long required urgent attention,' he said. The completed project involved the construction of 40 new carpark spots complete with earthworks, bitumen-surfacing, carpark line painting, and drainage works, resolving a long-standing parking shortage for staff and visitors. Additionally, the occupational therapy and rehabilitation hall was comprehensively upgraded with full electrical rewiring, 11 new split-unit air-conditioners, new windows, a renovated stage and backdrop, a brick wall partition for an office and counselling room, and repainting throughout the facility. 'These improvements have created a more conducive, safe, and comfortable environment for both staff and patients,' added Yap. The assemblyman also expressed appreciation to the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), the implementing agency, for completing the project on time and in accordance with the set specifications. 'As the elected representative for Kota Sentosa, I remain deeply committed to fighting for more funding to ensure that our public health facilities are not left behind,' he said. Paediatrician sues SIA over shrimp allergy incident mid-flight

According to a lawsuit filed in the US District Court, Dr Doreen Benary, 41, was flying Business Class on SIA flight SQ026 from Frankfurt to New York on 8 October 2024 when she consumed a meal that reportedly contained shrimp. Advertisement She began feeling unwell shortly after eating and was told by a crew member that a mistake had been made, prompting an emergency diversion to Paris where she received medical treatment. Benary claims she suffered a severe allergic reaction and is seeking unspecified damages for physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished quality of life. Sabah's RM44 million biggest slice of health budget

This allocation involves the implementation of 55 projects to upgrade and rebuild dilapidated healthcare facilities across the State, including 43 projects to demolish and reconstruct new clinics, as well as 12 upgrading projects that are actively being carried out this year. Advertisement Deputy Health Minister, Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, said the initiative reflects the government's commitment to narrowing the healthcare access gap between Sabah and other states in Peninsula Malaysia. 'The government is serious about making sure people in Sabah get quality healthcare, just like in other states,' he told the media after launching the new Sunsuron Health Clinic building here. According to him, the newly-built Sunsuron Health Clinic is expected to benefit more than 8,000 local residents. The clinic offers a range of essential services, including outpatient treatment, maternal and child healthcare, pharmacy, tuberculosis and malaria laboratories, as well as extended healthcare programs. He also urged the local community to make the clinic their primary point of reference for seeking treatment, obtaining health information, and undergoing early disease screenings.
