When are the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards? How to watch on Rock Sports Network

For the first time, the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards, which will be presented at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Feb. 6 will air live locally.
The annual ceremony recognizing the best athletes in the Cleveland sports scene will air on the Rock Entertainment Sports Network (Channel 22.1 over-the-air) and WUAB (Channel 43) from 7-10 p.m.
The ceremony will feature presenters and appearances from those who've played significant roles in Cleveland sports with this year's ceremony featuring a tribute to late Cleveland sports broadcasting legend, Jim Donovan, the voice of the Cleveland Browns who died this fall.
Also on tap: a reunion of the 1995 American League Championship Cleveland baseball team. Cleveland Cavs owner Dan Gilbert will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Pre-show coverage begins at 7 p.m.
Akron-Canton athletes up for awards include:
Harold Fannin Jr. (male collegiate athlete of the year), who starred at Canton McKinley High School and was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference.
Melissa Holzopfel (female collegiate athlete of the year) who starred at Perry High School and is the currently playing for the Cleveland State University softball team.
Denzel Ward (professional athlete of the year) who stars at cornerback for the Cleveland Browns and is the team's 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year who attended high school at Nordonia.
Single tickets for the awards in sections 112-114 are available for $75 (loaded with $10 in concessions, on-site games and activities and exclusive after party with cash bar, dessert stations and disc jockey). Tickets can be purchased on their website.

The 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year offered a smile and a three-word response. "I got you," Beckham said. The decision is obviously not Beckham's to make, but stranger things have happened. As former Giants general manager Jerry Reese would remind, "Never say never." During his time with the Giants, Beckham was arguably the most electrifying offensive player the franchise had ever seen. He dazzled with feats of athleticism rarely seen, highlighted by unbelievable one-handed catches and elite route running. He was lightning in a bottle, capable of taking it to the house any time he touched the ball. Beckham is no longer that level of superstar, hindered by various injuries, but that's not to say he doesn't have something to offer a team or locker room. And it would be somewhat fitting to see him end his NFL career back where it began.

The Fourth of July is right around the corner and you know what that means — fireworks. There are a slew of communities marking Independence Day with fireworks displays. Here's a look at Fourth of July celebrations happening in the Stark County area and beyond: Akron will host a fireworks display around 9:45 p.m. July 4 (after the RubberDucks game) at Lock 3 as part of the Heart of Akron Festival from July 3 to 5. The festival at Locks 3 and 4 will include live music, local art, food and a parade. The fireworks display will be part of the city's Bicentennial Signature Celebration, coinciding with the Fourth of July. On July 5, the Goodyear Bicentennial Downtown Parade will begin at 10 a.m. After the parade concludes, the Bicentennial Homecoming will begin at Lock 3. (Fireworks also will follow the conclusion of the RubberDucks game July 5.) An Independence Day celebration, including food trucks and live music, will be at Silver Park, 2930 S. Union Ave., from 5 to 9 p.m. July 4. The fireworks will be at dusk. The Cowboys are hoping to continue their luck in signing players out of the UFL as our sources confirmed this week that the team is signing defensive tackle Winfrey after an All-UFL season with the Birmingham Stallions this spring. After a standout college career at Oklahoma, Winfrey was taken by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was waived after one year with the Browns before being picked up by the New York Jets the following season. He spent much of his one-year contract in 2023 on the injured reserve or practice squad before becoming a free agent and testing out his skills in the UFL. Advertisement Part of the issue for the 6-3, 290-pounder, who given his OU background probably knows his way around Dallas? A handful of behavioral issues, including a an accusation that he pulled a gun on a woman in Cleveland, leading to his Browns release. He comes to Dallas with some ties, as during his time on the Jets' practice squad, he worked with Cowboys new defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton and fellow defensive tackle Solomon Thomas, who signed with the Cowboys earlier this offseason. Can he turn things around here? He's trying ... by showing up early to work out here at The Star. The Cowboys struggled stopping the run last season, and signing Winfrey continues the team's efforts to enhance the interior defensive line. Dallas drafted two tackles in Jay Toia and Tommy Akingbesote, along with signing Thomas and re-signing emerging star Osa Odighizuwa. Advertisement Winfrey will head to training camp with a shot at earning his place on the Cowboys 53-man roster and adding depth to the trenches. His connections to the staff should bode well for his causes, but he still must prove that he deserves the chance to play in the NFL. Winfrey posted on social media his arrival at The Star, noting, "Soon as I got the code I was innit lol.' So, he's ready to show up for work as he just couldn't wait to get inside The Star. For the Cowboys, an upside is that he might join KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey as UFL stars who become NFL standouts here. And another upside? He's got his entrance code.
