Swachh Andhra Corp chief Pattabhiram slams Jagan over Amma Vodi fund cut
VIJAYAWADA: Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram launched a strong attack on former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of drastically slashing funds under the Amma Vodi scheme and misleading the public with inflated promises.
Speaking at the TDP national office on Sunday, Pattabhiram said that while Jagan had promised to allocate Rs 50,000 crore over five years, only Rs 23,877 crore was released.
'He slashed Rs 2,178 crore citing maintenance and reduced the number of beneficiaries year after year,' he said, noting a drop from 44.4 lakh students in 2021 to 42.6 lakh in 2023.
Pattabhiram contrasted this with the NDA government's newly launched Taliku Vandanam scheme, inaugurated by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on June 12. He said the scheme has already disbursed Rs 10,090 crore — Rs 8,745 crore directly to mothers' accounts and Rs 1,345 crore towards school infrastructure — covering 67.27 lakh students, nearly 25 lakh more than Jagan's final Amma Vodi phase.
Refuting allegations that school development funds were diverted to Nara Lokesh's account, Pattabhiram challenged critics to prove their claims. 'If they can't, they must apologize or face legal action,' he said.

Govt begins construction of 39 CM composite schools
Lucknow: To modernise and make education inclusive, the state govt has begun the establishment of Chief Minister Composite Schools in 39 districts. "In addition to these 39 schools, the govt will soon begin construction in 10 more CM Composite Schools. For the remaining 26 districts, financial approvals and land selection processes are in their final stages," a govt spokesperson said. The govt earlier announced that each district will have a CM Composite School. Currently, all necessary approvals — including financial sanctions and land allocation — are obtained for the 39 districts where construction is either underway or about to begin. "These modern schools are being built on 5-10 acres of land, with each costing around Rs 30 crore. Six major agencies have been roped in to expedite the construction work," said a govt spokesperson. "These schools will focus not only on quality education but also on skill development, sports, facilities, and student safety. Each school will have 30 smart classrooms, a digital library, a computer lab, modern science labs, a mini stadium, and a large playground," he said.

With the rising cost, the impact of the 60% subsidy provided by the Union and the state govt (30% each) reduces the benefits by up to 50%. As a result, farmers said that a 5-kW plant, which required about Rs 2.7 lakh investment, will now need Rs 4 lakh. These projects are mandated to use Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) panels to be eligible for the subsidies. Disappointed with the higher panel rates, a farmer in a social media post even accused the govt of corruption as the benefits promised under the subsidy scheme are not available to him. The shortage of DCR panels has been jacking up prices in India for a long time, forcing vendors to delay project implementation. They accuse the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of rolling out schemes with mandatory use of DCR panels without having an adequate supply. "It is benefitting a few manufacturers who are into the production of DCR modules. If the country does not have enough capacity, then the stipulation should be removed for the smooth implementation of the projects," said a vendor preferring anonymity. In DCR modules, solar cells need to be manufactured in India. But the country currently does not have enough cell production capacity. The majority of panel manufacturing volume is made of imported solar cells. The govt has made the DCR mandatory for certain projects, including Kusum and PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Delay in availability risks pushing deadlines further for achieving targets set by MNRE.

Residents' body asks Haryana govt to roll back hiked power tariff
Panchkula: Haryana govt's recent decision to hike electricity rates up to four times has sparked public outrage, especially in Kalka and Panchkula. After residents welfare associations (RWAs), Shivalik Vikas Manch has strongly opposed the move, demanding a complete rollback of the revised rates and a waiver of residential electricity bills for economically weaker sections. In a memorandum sent to CM Nayab Singh Saini and the power minister, Manch president Vijay Bansal criticised the govt's decision, citing severe impact on residents already grappling with job losses due to the closure of major industries like HMT Tractors and ACC Cement in Pinjore. He pointed out that unemployment in the area had surged, leaving people in no position to bear additional financial burdens such as inflated power bills. "Households which previously received a monthly bill of Rs 1,000, are now getting bills exceeding Rs 4,000," Bansal said. The senior Congress leader said electricity tariffs in BJP-ruled Haryana, which were already the highest in the region, had pushed industries to neighbouring states like Himachal and Uttarakhand.
