DBKK extends partial closure of Taman Tun Fuad Stephens

KOTA KINABALU: The temporary closure of part of Taman Tun Fuad Stephens has been extended to facilitate ongoing construction for the Sabah Botanical Garden Project, according to a notice posted by DBKK on its official Facebook page on Wednesday. The extended closure period is from May 22 to July 14 and applies to all recreational activities within the affected area. In the notice, DBKK advised the public to instead visit alternative parks including Taman Awam Teluk Likas, Taman Ujana Rimba Tropika, Taman Awam Tanjung Aru, other public parks, and neighbourhood green spaces. Despite the closure, DBKK assured that amenities such as the Nelayan Restaurant, Dewan Putra, and Bukit Padang hawker stalls will continue operating as usual. Kota Kinabalu: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew suggests that the inaugural Asean Travel Exchange 2025 (ATEX 2025) be made an annual event. She raised the subject to the applause of 500 delegates from 15 countries at the welcome dinner hosted by her at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru (Star) on Thursday. 'An event of this nature is conducive to promoting travel and cultural exchanges, making new connections, building rapport and strengthening existing ties among Asean member countries,' Liew said, while urging the President of the Federation of Asean Travel Associations (FATA), Datuk Tan Kok Liang, who was present, to look into her suggestion. For tourism growth, the Minister, who was the guest of honour, also proposed reciprocal visits among the 10 member countries, saying ASEAN tourism must seize new opportunities and create new adventures. Speaking to the delegates, Liew said: 'If it's your first time in Sabah, I encourage you to explore beyond the venue. From the iconic Mount Kinabalu, a symbol of strength and unity, to vibrant markets and islands full of life, Sabah welcomes you with more than just beauty; it offers unforgettable experiences. 'As Malaysia is the Chairman of Asean this year, ATEX 2025 serves as a reminder that our greatest strength lies in the unity of its people and purpose. It invites us to celebrate the bonds of friendship and shared purpose that bring us together. Paediatrician sues SIA over shrimp allergy incident mid-flight

According to a lawsuit filed in the US District Court, Dr Doreen Benary, 41, was flying Business Class on SIA flight SQ026 from Frankfurt to New York on 8 October 2024 when she consumed a meal that reportedly contained shrimp. Advertisement She began feeling unwell shortly after eating and was told by a crew member that a mistake had been made, prompting an emergency diversion to Paris where she received medical treatment. Benary claims she suffered a severe allergic reaction and is seeking unspecified damages for physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished quality of life. Fuel tanker catches fire near Taman Indah Permai

The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 11.31pm and arrived at the scene by 11.49pm, with the fire brought under control within 17 minutes. Advertisement No casualties were reported, but about 30 per cent of the tanker was damaged, with 30 personnel from Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire stations deployed. The team used water tankers, foam, hose reels, and a thermal imaging camera to safely cool the tank and ensure no risk of reignition.
