Gabrielle Union 'can't afford' the career she'd like

Gabrielle Union "can't afford" to star in as many independent films as she'd like. The Bring It On actress - who has six-year-old daughter Kaavia with husband Dwyane Wade and is stepmother to his four children - doesn't have the "luxury" of complete creative freedom because she has to be mindful of how much money she brings in in order to look after her family, including her dementia-stricken father Sylvester Union. Speaking at the American Black Film Festival, People magazine reports she said: 'More recently, my father is in memory care. You know, nursing homes, what's covered by insurance, what's not, home health aids — like that all adds up and having to really be cognisant of an additional output, I have to go where the money goes. 'I don't have the luxury of taking all the independent films that I want because I can't afford to pay for my extended family in the way that they have grown accustomed to." Gabrielle, 51, believes many working actors these days need to have "multiple revenue streams" in order to supplement their income to afford more choice with their projects. She said: 'I have to factor in endorsements and brands and brand building. When you see celebrities have five to 11 jobs, there's a reason. 'We don't get paid what y'all think that we get paid, and that check is split so many ways. You have to have multiple revenue streams to do the job that you really love. So it kind of depends on what I've made that year on how creative I can be — and that's a damn shame, but that's reality.' Gabrielle previously spoke of her dad's struggle with dementia on his 80th birthday last October. She wrote on Instagram at the time: 'My Dad has dementia. He definitely thinks Dwyane is still playing for the Heat but otherwise remembers quite a bit. He remembers all the great times he spent in Hawaii, so we brought some Hawaii to my Dad. 'He remembers his love of Crown Royal and missing his friends and being able to just hang out and talk s***, so his friends showed up and showed out. 'What dementia has robbed him of, his heart and soul have recovered. When my Dad saw me, he said, 'I really love you.' And I said, 'I love you too Dad.' Then he replied, 'How's your Mom?' And with the gas face, I simply said, 'Sir.' He then asked if I was happy and I told him I was. He nodded and with a grin asked, 'You not taking no s*** are you?' And I said, 'Never.' "He told me he loved me again and that interaction stayed with me all day and made me pretty emotional. 'It all just reminds me to be a good, loyal friend, a great neighbor, prioritize your family, have a spirit of adventure and don't take no s***. And always show up and show love. Happy Birthday Dad! I love you [heart emoji] (sic).'

Machine Gun Kelly brings 'music and laughs' to baby daughter

Machine Gun Kelly's parenting "specialty" is bringing "music and laughs". The 35-year-old musician - whose former partner Megan Fox gave birth to their daughter Saga Blade in March - has been relishing getting the chance to catch up on some sleep while away performing and while he noted the Transformers actress has a "rougher" time than he does with a newborn in the house, he is doing his best to shower his little girl with love. He told People magazine: "[I recently] wrote her a lullaby on a ukulele. "Megan is in the no sleep club, for sure. I've been travelling a little bit, just doing some performances. So on those nights, I for sure, just hit the snooze button a million times and I'm catching up on all this. "Women are in the rougher trenches of the newborn process, but my specialty is music and laughs and whatever I can do to make her smile and kind of get introduced to the world with love." MGK also has 15-year-old Casie from his relationship with Emma Cannon, and the teenager is finding being a big sister a lot of "fun". She said: "It's really just so cute. I love her so much. It's so cute. It's like, different, you know?" The Cliche singer is Casie's biggest "cheerleader". She said: "[He] definitely gives a lot of advice. He's more like a hype man, though." Her dad agreed: "Yeah, I'm a cheerleader." Meanwhile, MGK - whose real name is Colson Baker - hopes his upcoming album Los Americana will allow him to be a "vessel for a really happy project in a very dark time." He said: "So I think it'll naturally find its way to people's ears. Good music goes a long way. "And I still believe in albums and people being like, 'Yo, I just heard a great album.' Then you have to hear it. So word of mouth is kind of what I'm going for." The Emo Girl hitmaker finally revealed his baby girl's name earlier this week. He shared a video on Instagram, in which he played a ukulele for the tot, whose face couldn't be seen as she rocked back and forth, cooing in the background. He asked the baby before he started to play: "You ready?" He captioned the post with his daughter's full name, writing: "Saga Blade Fox-Baker." Fans were previously left confused as to the baby's moniker. When he announced Megan had given birth, MGK wrote on Instagram: "she's finally here!! our little celestial seed [tears and heart emojis] 3/27/25 (sic)" Much to his amusement, many fans then assumed the baby had been named Celestial Seed. A few days after her baby, he shared a screenshot of a TikTok video about the birth announcement and wrote on his Instagram Story: 'Wait guys…her name isn't 'Celestial Seed' [cry laughing emoji]. 'Her mom is gonna tell you the name when we're ready." Megan - who also has sons Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, eight, with her ex-husband Brian Austin Green - and MGK split in November, shortly after it was announced that the 39-year-old actress was pregnant.

Katy Perry snapped in Peter Alexander bear onesie with daughter at Luna Park in Sydney

It is not uncommon to spot a onesie-wearing Australian in the colder months down under but an American superstar has joined in the trend while on tour. Snapped at Luna Park in Sydney, pop superstar Katy Perry was seen in an Aussie designer's fluffy offering looking calm, collected and super comfy. The showbiz queen clearly has good taste as the onesie was from none other than Australian sleepwear king Peter Alexander's collection. So chuffed was the designer he shared the pic on his official Instagram account. While a large portion of Australians go to bed wrapped in Alexander's sleepwear, it is nice to know he has an international following too. The fluffy bear onesie appears to be a popular choice and is sold out online with some children's sizes available. The adorable snap also captured Perry holding the hand of her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, whose father is Hollywood superstar Orlando Bloom — Perry's partner since 2016. Days after the Californian diva had a security scare when an audience member charged the stage at her sold-out Qudos Bank Arena show in Sydney, news has surfaced that the A-list couple's relationship may be on the rocks. The couple are contending with rumours of a potential split following Daily Mail reports Perry was spotted without her wedding ring on the tour and following tensions created around the flop of her 2024 album 143. 'Orlando and I, when we argue, we argue kinda hot and fast and then cool really quickly. It's like, 'La la la la la, I love you. Alright, let's move on,'' the pop superstar previously said in 2024. She also mentioned the impact that their domestic blow-ups had on their four-year-old daughter Daisy. 'We are fire, fire, fire, and so [Daisy] sees all of that,' Ms Perry said. 'He's a real sage. We both have parts of ourselves. There's two parts of us, our highest good, and then our carnal, material self. Ego. When the ego is running the show, then it's like, 'Whoa.' But when that's in check, then we're both something else.'' Mr Bloom, who is in New York for the Tribeca Film Festival, has spoken previously about the challenging moments in their partnership. 'Sometimes things are really, really, really, challenging. I won't lie. We definitely battle with our emotions and creativity.' Perry is currently in Melbourne before her tour heads to Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
