CT man charged with DWI in crash that left pedestrian with broken ribs, cracked vertebrae
A man was arrested on a DWI charge last week in Wallingford after police claimed that he struck a pedestrian who suffered broken ribs, cracked vertebrae and a concussion.
The crash occurred last Friday in the area of 76 Center St. where officers responded on a report of a pedestrian being struck, according to Officer Alex Torres of the Wallingford Police Department.
Traffic Division officers who were working under a state DUI grant responded to the area and found that a 52-year-old woman was hit by a gray Chevrolet Silverado being driven by 64-year-old Carlton J. Brechlin of Wallingford, Torres said. Police found that Brechlin was heading east on Center Street when he struck the woman as she was crossing the road.
According to Torres, the pedestrian was taken to an area hospital where she was diagnosed with three cracked vertebrae, eight broken ribs and a concussion.
Officers alleged that Brechlin showed signs of being intoxicated. Officers who spoke to him reprotedly learned that he had consumed alcohol at a restaurant just east of where the crash occurred, according to Torres.
Brechlin reportedly smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test, Torres said. He was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with unsafe tires and harm to a vulnerable person on a public highway.

Pedestrian, 74, dies after hit-run crash in Honolulu
Honolulu police said a 74-year-old woman who was struck in a crosswalk Tuesday by a hit-and-run driver has died. The knife-wielding illegal immigrant who allegedly chased down a US Attorney in New York while threatening to slit his throat had previous busts for threatening another person and driving while intoxicated, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Sarcone was uninjured and Morales-Garcia was picked up by Albany County sheriff's deputies just moments after the frightening alleged attack, according to local cops. Morales-Garcia was charged with attempted second-degree murder and is being held without bail, the Albany Times Union reported. Meanwhile, Homeland Security Investigations is also seeking to charge Morales-Garcia with illegal re-entry into the US, which could accelerate his second deportation. ICE has also lodged a detainer to take him into federal custody, DHS said. Morales-Garcia 'should have never been in our country in the first place—and now, he will face attempted murder in the second-degree charges and removal,' McLaughlin said in the Friday statement. 'Make no mistake: Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is focused on removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from Americans' communities,' she added. The alleged attempted slasher was also previously convicted of a felony in El Salvador, WNYT reported, citing investigators. Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Sarcone to the Northern District of New York in March. Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson appeared to get involved in a physical altercation with a man during a recent poker game. TMZ Sports obtained video of the incident at a May poker event in Houston. At one point, Peterson and another poker player reportedly had a disagreement over playing cards. The situation appeared to escalate quickly with video showing Peterson taking multiple punches near his face. The video lasted for roughly 37 seconds but did not appear to show the fight in its entirety. The former Minnesota Vikings star and the unidentified man both sustained injuries to the face, according to TMZ. Peterson later said he sustained his injury when he fell into a chair. Peterson did acknowledge he had consumed alcohol leading up to the altercation, although he clarified that alcohol was not responsible for the fight.
