ONE Championship: Malaysian prospect hopes to become country's first champion
Aliff Sor Dechapan said he is ready to bring a ONE Championship world title back to Malaysia after a breakout performance at ONE Fight Night 32 – and a post-fight face-off with Thai legend Prajanchai PK Saenchai hinted a meeting could be on the cards.
The Thai-Malaysian striker impressed at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium with a unanimous decision win over Moroccan stand-out Elmehdi 'The Sniper' El Jamari.
His slick striking and intelligent game plan lifted his record to 61-9 61-9 – and may lift him into title contention.
'I'm very happy to get a win here,' Aliff told the Post. 'I was sick before, but I just followed my camp plan. Everything is good.'
Despite feeling under the weather, Aliff delivered a composed performance from start to finish. He punished El Jamari with a steady stream of kicks to the legs and body, and even landed a spinning back kick flush to the face.

'I was confident for this game,' the 21-year-old said. 'The focus was on all the kicks because I just used my height as an advantage.'

Tomato Ho, Alex Lau seal historic squash double for Hong Kong
Hong Kong celebrated double success at the Asian Individual Squash Championships in Malaysia on Saturday with triumphs for Tomato Ho Tze-lok and Alex Lau Tsz-kwan. Ho beat home favourite Rachel Arnold 3-1 to secure a first Asian title, while Lau beat top seed Abdulla Al-Tamimi of Qatar in straight games at the Sarawak Squash Centre in Kuching to claim his maiden crown. It marked the first time two Hongkongers won the men's and women's titles in the same year. 'I might look calm on the court but I was quite emotional and still didn't believe I'd won it,' Ho said. 'My opponent might feel more pressure due to her higher ranking and made more mistakes of her own.' It was a game apiece before Ho took full control with a victory so dominant, she even claimed a bagel to cap it off. She won 11-4, 10-12, 11-4, 11-0 in 35 minutes. Thai cabinet approves US$1.2 billion bid to host Formula 1 street race in Bangkok
Thailand's cabinet has approved a US$1.2 billion bid to host a Formula One street race in the country's capital, Bangkok, in 2028, government officials said on Tuesday. If successful, the Thai capital would win a contract to host a race each year from 2028 to 2032, government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub told a news conference. 'In the next two to three years, Thailand will have a world-class competition, which we never thought would actually happen in Thailand,' Jirayu said. Tourism Minister Sorawong Thienthong told reporters the bid is worth about 40 billion baht (US$1.23 billion). In March, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra met Formula One chief Stefano Domenicali and said Thailand would commission a feasibility study into hosting a Grand Prix on a Bangkok street circuit from 2028.
