In a tense exchange that lit up Capitol Hill on Thursday, Nancy Mace fiercely confronted Tim Walz during a House Oversight Committee hearing.
Republican Congresswoman Mace demanded that the Minnesota governor define what a woman is.
The South Carolina lawmaker, known for her outspoken stance on transgender policy, posed a direct question to Walz: 'What is a woman?'

Walz appeared caught off guard. 'I'm not quite sure I understand your question here,' he responded after a moment's pause, prompting Mace to press him again. 'What do you want me to say?' he asked, still not providing a clear answer.
Mace didn't hold back. Raising her voice, she said, 'I want you to say a woman like me is an adult human female.
That men can't become women.' She accused the Democratic Party of erasing women and disrespecting their identities. 'You guys are the party of violence and the party erasing women, you don't respect us, you're a bigot, you're a misogynist, you're a sexist,' she added, before quickly dominating the floor without allowing Walz to respond.
The exchange over gender identity took centre stage. Other Democratic governors, including New York's Kathy Hochul and Illinois' J.B.

Pritzker faced tough questions about their immigration stances during the session.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who followed Mace in the questioning order, reacted to the fiery moment with visible confusion. 'Alright, well, that was some kind of Bingo going on over there,' she remarked. 'I don't know what's going on.'
After the hearing, Mace took to X to share a video of the confrontation and criticised Walz's response.
''Tampon Tim' Walz couldn't define a woman today in [committee] when I had him in the pressure cooker,' she said. 'He was speechless.'
The label 'Tampon Tim' is one that conservative critics have used for Walz, especially in light of his support for transgender rights in Minnesota. Under his leadership, the state has called itself a 'trans refuge,' allowing minors to access gender-transition treatments even if their home states oppose such procedures.
Walz's administration has also faced criticism for removing sex-based protections for women and remaining silent as transgender athletes compete in girls' sports.
The governor also faced renewed backlash during the hearing for comments made in a recent graduation speech, where he compared ICE to 'Trump's modern-day Gestapo.' Mace challenged that statement as well, saying, 'You know that ICE has not committed genocide against anyone?'
Tim Walz was also the former vice presidential candidate representing the democratic party in the 2024 US elections.

Trump says he may change his mind about firing Fed Chair Powell

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday again floated the idea of firing Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve chair he has long attacked over interest rates he wants lowered. "I don't know why the Board doesn't override (Powell)," Trump wrote in a lengthy post on Truth Social criticizing Fed policy. "Maybe, just maybe, I'll have to change my mind about firing him? But regardless, his Term ends shortly." Trump added: "I fully understand that my strong criticism of him makes it more difficult for him to do what he should be doing, lowering Rates, but I've tried it all different ways." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Walgreens Hides This Cheap 87¢ Generic Viagra from Seniors – Here's Why fridayplans Learn More Undo Fed chairs have long been seen as insulated from presidential dismissal for reasons other than malfeasance or misconduct, but Trump has threatened to test that legal premise with frequent threats to fire Powell. Trump nearly as frequently reverses course on those threats. "I'm not going to fire him," he said at the White House on June 12. Live Events The Fed held rates steady on Wednesday in the 4.25%-4.50% range and forecast slower growth as well as higher unemployment and inflation by year's end. Fed Governor Chris Waller, who has been floated as a possible Trump pick to be Powell's successor, said on Friday that with inflation coming down and the labor market showing signs of weakening, rate cuts should be considered as soon as July. But even Waller joined Wednesday's unanimous Fed decision to leave rates on hold, signaling no inclination by any of Powell's six fellow Board members, or of the five voting regional Fed bank presidents, to "override" him. Fed decisions are typically reached through consensus, and more than a couple of dissents would be rare. Elected partly on voters' belief that he could contain high inflation, the Republican U.S. president has imposed tariff hikes in office. Powell, echoing an academic consensus, has said some of those tariff hikes will be paid for in higher consumer prices. Powell's term ends in May 2026, and Trump is expected to nominate a successor in the coming months. A Supreme Court ruling in May eased concerns that Trump could fire Powell as the justices called the Fed "a uniquely structured, quasi-private entity."

U.S. VP Vance says troops still 'necessary' in Los Angeles

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Friday (June 20, 2025) that the thousands of troops deployed to Los Angeles this month were still needed despite a week of relative calm in the protest-hit city. U.S. President Donald Trump has sent roughly 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines, purportedly to protect federal property and personnel, after demonstrations over immigration raids. "Unfortunately, the soldiers and Marines are still very much a necessary part of what's going on here because they're worried that it's going to flare back up," Vance told reporters in Los Angeles. He was speaking the day after an appeals court ruled that Trump could continue to control the California National Guard, which would normally fall under Governor Gavin Newsom's authority. California officials have heavily criticised Trump over his use of the military, saying it escalated protests that local law enforcement could have handled. The demonstrations were largely peaceful and mostly contained to a small part of Los Angeles, the second-largest US city, although there were instances of violence and vandalism. "If you let violent rioters burn Great American Cities to the ground, then, of course, we're going to send federal law enforcement in to protect the people the president was elected to protect," Vance said, adding that Trump would deploy them again if needed. The Republican further accused Mr. Newsom -- a possible contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028 -- and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of encouraging protesters. Mr. Newsom and Ms. Bass have both condemned rioting and violence towards law enforcement while accusing the Trump administration of manufacturing a crisis in the city. Ms. Bass hit back at Mr. Vance during a news conference on Friday, accusing him of openly lying and saying that local law enforcement agencies handled crowd control. "How dare you say that city officials encourage violence. We kept the peace. You know that the federal officials that were here protected a federal building -- they were not involved in crowd control," she said. Ms. Bass said that even when there was vandalism, at its height, "you are talking about a couple of hundred people who are not necessarily associated with any of the peaceful protests." "Los Angeles is a city that is 500 square miles and any of the disruption that took place took place at about 2 square miles in our city," she said, accusing Mr. Vance of adding to "provocation" and sowing "division." 'Jose Padilla' Many in Los Angeles are angry about immigration raids carried out as part of Mr. Trump's ambition to deport vast numbers of undocumented migrants around the country. Outrage at the use of masked, armed immigration agents also sparked protests in other cities, including San Francisco, New York, Chicago and San Antonio, Texas. Tensions spiked when California Senator Alex Padilla, a Democrat, was handcuffed and forcibly removed last week when attempting to ask Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem questions during her news conference. Mr. Vance misnamed the senator when referring to the incident, saying: "I was hoping Jose Padilla would be here to ask a question but unfortunately, I guess he decided not to show up because there wasn't a theater." Ms. Bass reacted to the comment with outrage. "How dare you disrespect him and call him Jose. But I guess he just looked like anybody to you," she said. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer had said Padilla's treatment "reeks of totalitarianism," while the White House claimed -- despite video evidence to the contrary -- that Padilla had "lunged toward Secretary Noem."

JD Vance emerges as GOP front-runner for 2028, more than doubling Donald Trump Jr. in stunning poll lead

JD Vance leads 2028 GOP presidential poll, doubles support over Donald Trump Jr.- JD Vance is quickly becoming a strong favorite in the 2028 Republican presidential race, gaining a clear lead over Donald Trump Jr., according to a new national poll. The survey by McLaughlin and Associates, conducted between June 10 and 15 among 1,000 likely voters—including 455 Republicans—shows Vance securing 36% support, more than double Trump Jr.'s 14%. These numbers mark a significant jump for Vance, who earlier this year had a much tighter lead over the president's son. While neither candidate has officially declared their 2028 bid, signs point to a growing rivalry that could reshape the GOP's future leadership. Why is JD Vance gaining momentum over Donald Trump Jr.? The shift in Republican support toward JD Vance reflects a broadening appeal across key conservative voter groups. Back in January, Vance held 27% in the McLaughlin poll, just ahead of Trump Jr.'s 21%. By April, Vance had peaked at 43% before slightly pulling back to his current 36%. Meanwhile, Trump Jr.'s support dropped steadily from 21% in December to just 14% in June. Vance is performing particularly well among core Republican demographics: by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dukung Orang Terkasih Menghadapi Limfoma: Mulai Di Sini Limfoma Klik Di Sini Undo Conservatives: 43% support Vance vs. 12% for Trump Jr. White voters: Vance leads with 38% Hispanic Republicans: Vance holds 28% Voters over 55: 39% back Vance; only 8% back Trump Jr. Men and women: Vance leads with 38% among men, 34% among women Trump Jr. retains some strength among Trump-identified voters (39%) and moderates (16%), but these are not enough to keep pace with Vance's growing reach. Is Trump Jr. really planning to run in 2028? Despite frequent speculation, Donald Trump Jr. has publicly denied interest in running. In a 2023 interview with The Times of London , he stated, 'I'm not interested in politics… I'll leave that to others in the family.' Yet, his frequent appearances at conservative gatherings like CPAC and Turning Point USA events have kept the rumors alive. Live Events Then came a notable shift in tone this May during the Qatar Economic Forum. Trump Jr. hinted at the possibility of a run, saying, 'I don't know, maybe one day… that calling is there.' While vague, it was the first time he appeared open to political ambitions. What's behind JD Vance's growing support among Republican voters? JD Vance's rise appears tied to both political positioning and public messaging. As the current Vice President under President Donald Trump, Vance has built a national profile. He's also appealed to conservative values while maintaining a more grounded tone in interviews. In April, speaking to Fox & Friends , Vance said he wasn't focused on 2028 yet: 'If we do a good job, the politics take care of themselves.' A month later, he told NBC News, 'If I do end up running in 2028, I'm not entitled to it.' These modest, forward-looking remarks may be resonating with Republican voters looking for someone confident but not self-serving. Where do other potential Republican candidates stand in 2028? Besides JD Vance and Donald Trump Jr., the Republican field looks underwhelming at this stage: Ron DeSantis: 6% Nikki Haley: 4% Vivek Ramaswamy: 2% Only Haley shows slight traction among liberal Republicans (16%), but that segment represents a small portion of the GOP base. These low numbers for other contenders only highlight the scale of Vance's current advantage. When will candidates officially enter the 2028 race? So far, none of the top names—JD Vance or Donald Trump Jr.—have officially declared their candidacy for the 2028 Republican nomination. But with Vance making moves and Trump Jr. keeping himself visible, announcements could start taking shape as early as 2026. As GOP voters start looking beyond the current administration, the question of who leads the next chapter for the Republican Party looms large. If current trends continue, JD Vance may already be positioning himself as the new face of conservative leadership. FAQs: Q: Who is leading in the 2028 Republican presidential poll between JD Vance and Donald Trump Jr.? A: JD Vance is leading with 36% support, while Donald Trump Jr. has 14%. Q: Has Donald Trump Jr. confirmed his run for president in 2028? A: No, Trump Jr. hasn't confirmed but hasn't ruled it out either.
