'The Waterfront' Is Netflix's All-New Family Drama—We Can't Wait To Dive In!
Imagine if Yellowstone took place in a North Carolina coastal town and instead of the family at the helm of the show being in the ranching business, they were in the fishing business—you'd get something along the lines of Netflix's upcoming series, The Waterfront. There's nothing we love more than unique and complicated family dynamics, especially those wrapped up in a family business, and this upcoming series is sure to have viewers entertained. Here, everything we know about The Waterfront.
This all-new Netflix series follows the Buckley family. For decades, they've ruled just about every facet of their small Carolina town, leaving their most significant mark on the local fishing industry, but the family patriarch's ailing health makes things complicated for his wife and children. As the family does what they can to keep their heads above water, things get more and more complicated. See the trailer below!
This series comes from the mastermind behind shows like Dawson's Creek and The Vampire Diaries, Kevin Williamson, so fans are already anticipating the drama to arrive in full force if it's anything like his past work! This story in particular, however, is a little bit personal, as some of the inspiration was taken from his own life and family. 'The fishing industry sort of upturned in the '80s—it all started to go away, and my dad couldn't feed his family,' he told Netflix's Tudum. 'So someone came along and said, 'Hey, if you do this one thing, you can make all this money.' And it was hard to say no to.'
This series has a star-studded cast, many of whom we've seen before shining on our screens. Leading the show as the family patriarch is Holt McCallany as Harlan Buckley, with Maria Bello playing the part of his wife, Belle. Jake Weary plays Harlan's son Cane, with Melissa Benoist portraying his daughter Bree. Humberly Gonález plays Jenna, one of Cane's old flames who is back in town to care for her dad, and Rafael L. Silva will play a new bartender at the Buckley's eatery. Brady Hepner and Danielle Campbell join the cast as well, with none other than Topher Grace also guest starring.
Grace will play a prominent drug lord, and show creator Kevin Williamson dove into his character in conversation with Collider. "He comes from a very well-to-do overachieving family where everyone's lawyers and doctors and his father was super rich and he was a failure. He was sort of this tech bro who got into some money laundering and served time in prison, met some wrong people in prison, got out and decided that having a poppy farm was the way to succeed in life."
The Waterfront will begin streaming on June 19, and we can't wait to see what's in store!

‘Borderlands 4' Adds A Hugely Requested Feature Months Before Launch
Borderlands 4 Gearbox Borderlands 4 has officially become my most-anticipated game of the year, between how good its previews have looked and the glowing hands-on reviews that have just hit the internet this past week. Now, I am deeply impressed by what Gearbox has just announced. Due to a load of fan feedback and debates about the issue, they have added a feature to the game that will launch with it in September, a demonstration of both listening to the playerbase and nimble development. The debate was whether or not the Borderlands 4 'compass' system of locating objectives and enemies was better than a 'minimap' system that did the same thing but in a different format. Gearbox adamantly defended the compass decision, but the conversation was so pervasive that it has just been announced that Borderlands 4 will indeed launch with a combat minimap option. Here's Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford showing off the system during a 32-tweet thread covering the issue: Randy credits the community for helping to reinforce how important this issue is and that it needed to be addressed: 'This happened because of the best elements of our community. I'm talking about the real fans who sincerely want the best for the game and gave constructive notes and made reasonable arguments. You know who you are and you rock! You made this happen!' I'm not exactly sure which side of this I come down on. I think perhaps the compass, as it seems less intrusive in the UI, but I'll try both out to be sure. Regardless, it's great that there's an option, and you really do not see this sort of thing happen this quickly and way ahead of launch, rather than a 'yeah, we'll look into that for the future' sort of thing. It seems like it's all green lights for Borderlands 4 so far. The only negative things I've heard about it are not about the game itself, but people saying they didn't like Borderlands 3 , so they're not excited about 4. But a lot of the praise about Borderlands 4 is that it's fixing many of the issues of 3, from combat movement to looting to even the tone of its writing. That, combined with what appears to be a very reactive dev team on top of their game, I think this is going to be a big fall launch, particularly with a number of other games moving out of its way. BBC Drops ‘Gaza: Doctors Under Attack' Film As Producer Brands Director General A 'PR Person'
For the second time this year, the BBC has dropped a documentary film about the Israel-Hamas conflict, announcing that it will no longer move forward with Gaza: Doctors Under Attack. The BBC greenlit Doctors Under Attack last year from Basement Films, the production company run by former Channel 4 News editor Ben de Pear. Turns Eye To Middle East It was meant to spotlight the plight of medics in Gaza, but production was paused in April following the scandal over Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, the HOYO Films doc that was found to have been narrated by the child of a Hamas minister. A BBC investigation into How to Survive a Warzone remains ongoing. Peter Johnston, the BBC's director of editorial complaints and reviews, is examining the failings that led to the film being broadcast. Now, the BBC has said it will not screen Doctors Under Attack, or carry any of its contents in news bulletins, after discussions with Basement 'reached the end of the road' on Thursday. In a lengthy statement, the BBC said: 'We have come to the conclusion that broadcasting this material risked creating a perception of partiality that would not meet the high standards that the public rightly expect of the BBC. 'Impartiality is a core principle of BBC News. It is one of the reasons that we are the world's most trusted broadcaster. Therefore, we are transferring ownership of the film material to Basement Films.' The corporation continued: 'We want to thank the doctors and contributors and we are sorry we could not tell their stories. The BBC will continue to cover events in Gaza impartially.' De Pear has been contacted for comment. It is not clear what brought the talks between the BBC and Basement to a head. De Pear did, however, personally criticize BBC director-general Tim Davie on a public platform at the Sheffield DocFest on Thursday. He said Davie is 'just a PR person,' who has meddled in editorial decisions and is leading an organization that is 'failing' in its duty to report on the Gaza crisis properly. 'Something needs to happen because they are making decisions from a PR defensive point of view rather than a journalistic one. If you make a decision on a journalistic basis you can defend it, but if you make it on a PR basis, you can't,' de Pear said, per a report in Broadcast. The BBC said it spent weeks with de Pear attempting to get Gaza doctors' voices heard. 'Our aim was to find a way to air some of the material in our news programmes, in line with our impartiality standards, before the review [into How to Survive a Warzone] was published,' it said. The BBC added: 'Contrary to some reports, since we paused production of Gaza: Doctors Under Attack in April, it has not undergone the BBC's final pre-broadcast sign-off processes.' The BBC's coverage of the Gaza crisis has stoked strong feelings on both sides of the conflict, with How to Survive a Warzone illustrating the fraught nature of the debate. The UK's Jewish community was appalled that the BBC screened a film narrated by a boy with Hamas connections that were not declared to viewers. Others argued that the BBC's decision to pull How To Survive a Warzone was an act of 'censorship' that played into Israel's agenda. This year's free festival will take place in Druid Hill Park on Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22. AFRAM runs from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday featuring nearly 20 artists, including headliners Juvenile and Patti LaBelle. What is AFRAM? AFRAM highlights African American culture, music and art. It's one of the largest Black cultural festivals on the East Coast. Each year, AFRAM is held on Juneteenth weekend. The recently recognized federal holiday on June 19 commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. The event, organized by Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, is in its 49th year. AFRAM is a family-friendly affair that includes history, education, entertainment and activities for kids.
