The Beach Boys debuted on the Hot 100 dated Feb. 17, 1962, at No. 93, with 'Surfin.' That October, their second entry, 'Surfin' Safari,' reached No. 14, marking their first of 35 top 40 hits.
The band kept catching waves to higher Hot 100 crests, with 'Surfin' U.S.A.' becoming its first of 15 top 10s, hitting No. 3 in May 1963.
'I Get Around' became the Beach Boys' first Hot 100 No. 1 on July 1964. They reigned again with 'Help Me, Rhonda' in May 1965, 'Good Vibrations' in December 1966 and 'Kokomo' in November 1988. With its lattermost leader, the band set two records at the time: It established the longest span of No. 1s for any act (24 years and four months) and closed the longest gap between trips to the top (21 years and 10 months).
Notably, Brian Wilson was not a part of the recording of 'Kokomo.' As reported June 11, the founding member and essential creative force of the band passed away at age 82. Along with the group's 55 Hot 100 hits, he charted one solo entry: 'Caroline, No' rose to No. 32 in April 1966. (He was also the title subject of a Hot 100 hit: Barenaked Ladies' 'Brian Wilson' reached No. 68 in 1998.) 'I am proud that I have weathered not just one storm, but a lifetime of storms,' Wilson mused to Billboard in 2015. 'Proud that I have stuck with my music and musical convictions. And proud — really proud — to have proven stronger than many imagined me to be.'
The Beach Boys' Hot 100 history has expanded in recent years thanks to its 1963 classic 'Little Saint Nick.' In both the 2023 and 2024 holiday seasons, the carol jingled to a No. 25 high, the band's best rank since 'Kokomo' in December 1988.
The Beach Boys have also continued to chart new music this century. In June 2012, That's Why God Made the Radio cruised onto the Billboard 200 at its No. 3 peak, marking their 14th and most recent top 10 album — and their highest placement on the chart in 38 years.
In honor of the group's beloved songs that make it feel like an endless summer when listening any day of the year, count down the Beach Boys' 40 biggest Hot 100 hits below. Beyond their highest-charting entries — which helped lead to the band's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2001 — the ranking includes favorites whose legacies have outpaced the reach of their original runs, such as 'God Only Knows' (a perhaps surprising, in retrospect, No. 39 peak) and 'Don't Worry Baby' (No. 24).
The Beach Boys' Biggest Billboard Hot 100 Hits chart is based on actual performance on the weekly Hot 100 chart from its Aug. 4, 1958, inception, through June 14, 2025. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted to account for different chart turnover rates over various periods.

‘Borderlands 4' Adds A Hugely Requested Feature Months Before Launch

Borderlands 4 Gearbox Borderlands 4 has officially become my most-anticipated game of the year, between how good its previews have looked and the glowing hands-on reviews that have just hit the internet this past week. Now, I am deeply impressed by what Gearbox has just announced. Due to a load of fan feedback and debates about the issue, they have added a feature to the game that will launch with it in September, a demonstration of both listening to the playerbase and nimble development. The debate was whether or not the Borderlands 4 'compass' system of locating objectives and enemies was better than a 'minimap' system that did the same thing but in a different format. Gearbox adamantly defended the compass decision, but the conversation was so pervasive that it has just been announced that Borderlands 4 will indeed launch with a combat minimap option. Here's Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford showing off the system during a 32-tweet thread covering the issue: Randy credits the community for helping to reinforce how important this issue is and that it needed to be addressed: 'This happened because of the best elements of our community. I'm talking about the real fans who sincerely want the best for the game and gave constructive notes and made reasonable arguments. You know who you are and you rock! You made this happen!' I'm not exactly sure which side of this I come down on. I think perhaps the compass, as it seems less intrusive in the UI, but I'll try both out to be sure. Regardless, it's great that there's an option, and you really do not see this sort of thing happen this quickly and way ahead of launch, rather than a 'yeah, we'll look into that for the future' sort of thing. It seems like it's all green lights for Borderlands 4 so far. The only negative things I've heard about it are not about the game itself, but people saying they didn't like Borderlands 3 , so they're not excited about 4. But a lot of the praise about Borderlands 4 is that it's fixing many of the issues of 3, from combat movement to looting to even the tone of its writing. That, combined with what appears to be a very reactive dev team on top of their game, I think this is going to be a big fall launch, particularly with a number of other games moving out of its way. Mariah Carey Earns Her First Solo Hit Song In A Decade

Mariah Carey returns to the Hot 100 solo for the first time in 10 years with her new single 'Type of ... More Dangerous,' which also launches at No. 1 on other Billboard lists. (Photo by Christopher Polk/Billboard via Getty Images) Throughout the 1990s, Mariah Carey was the queen of the Hot 100, scoring one No. 1 smash after another. Several of her hits from that decade ruled for historically-long periods of time. Lately, Carey has spaced her releases further apart, and she doesn't land big wins like she used to. But the beloved singer is back on Billboard's ranking of the biggest songs in America this week with 'Type Dangerous,' which helps her return to the tally unaccompanied for the first time in years. 'Type Dangerous' opens at No. 95 on the Hot 100 this week. According to Billboard, the track earns Carey her first completely solo hit on the chart roster in a decade. The last time she debuted a tune on the tally without any other featured artists credited was in May 2015, when 'Infinity' arrived and peaked at No. 82. In the years since 'Infinity' debuted, Carey has pushed a handful of tracks onto the Hot 100, but all of them benefited from another artist being included. Her list of recent hits includes 'I Don't' with YG and 'Oh Santa!' alongside Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. Those two tunes peaked at Nos. 89 and 76, respectively. Of course, Carey returns to the Hot 100 every holiday season with 'All I Want for Christmas Is You.' The track finds its way back to the tally sometimes in November, sometimes not until December, but for the past half-decade, it has risen all the way to No. 1 every year. The blockbuster has now accrued a total of 18 weeks ruling the list — a number that will surely climb again at the end of 2025. 'Type Dangerous' powers its way onto the Hot 100 thanks largely to a healthy sales sum. The single opens at No. 4 on the Digital Song Sales chart, with a little under 5,100 pure purchases, according to Luminate. That also sends it straight to No. 1 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and R&B Digital Song Sales tallies. It similarly opens inside the top 10 on a handful of other genre-focused rankings.
