Lions to win by 16-20 - 6/1 Bet365
The British & Irish Lions face Argentina in Dublin on Friday as they step up their preparations for next month's Test series against Australia (8pm, Sky Sports Main Event).

Andy Farrell's side travel to Australia after Friday's match to play a series of warm-up games before three matches against Australia, starting in mid-July.
Farrell opted to name 16 players from the national side he usually coaches, Ireland, in his 38-man squad and13 from England, including skipper Maro Itoje, who became the first English captain of the side for more than 20 years when he was named last month.
Seven players were named from Scotland, including Finn Russell, who helped Bath to their first Premiership final in 29 years with two conversions and three penalties in their 23-21 win over Leicester Tigers on Saturday.
There are just two Wales players named in the squad, with Tomos Williams and Jac Morgan both in line to make their Lions debuts, and after a disappointing year so far with Wales, they will be looking forward to getting back in international action.

Rugby betting sites make the Lions odds-on to go down under and win the series, just as they did in 2013, while you can get 5/2 on the Aussies and 33/1 on a series draw.
Brirish & Irish Lions vs Argentina Betting Preview: Lions to Roar in Dublin
While the focus will be on peaking for the Test series against Australia, Friday's game in Dublin will be a special occasion for many as they get their first taste of Lions rugby.
Betting sites are backing the Lions for the win at the Aviva Stadium at 1/7 while they are favoured by around 17 points on the handicap. A shock Argentina win has shortened to 7/1 and it's 50/1 on a pretty rare draw.

The last time the two sides met it did finish all square at 25-25, but that was back in 2005 at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium, when Sir Clive Woodward was in charge of the side.
Argentina lost two out of three of last year's internationals in Europe, beaten by France and Ireland but they did secure a 50-18 win over Italy in November.
They were the last three internationals the side played so it will be interesting to see what type of form they are in but let's not forget they did beat both South Africa and Australia last year, although both matches were on home turf.
The Lions are without the majority of Leinster, Bath and Leicester Tigers players, who only joined up with the squad on Monday after the United Rugby Championship and Premiership finals, with Leinster hooker Ronan Kelleher the only player involved as he is named on the bench.

The Pumas are also without several of their France-based players with Toulouse's Juan Cruz Mallia and Bordeaux-Begles second row Guido Petti involved in the Top 14 play-offs.
The last time the Lions played on British or Irish soil they saw off Japan 28-10 at Murrayfield in 2021 and a similar margin of victory is expected here.

With another state title, rugby took BC High senior Mikey Smith to places he never imagined

MILTON — When Mikey Smith first joined the BC High rugby team, his goal was to improve his skills for the football season. He had no idea where rugby would take him. Four years later, Smith now graduates as a two-time state champion. He'll continue to play the sport at United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, along with teammates Brennan and Braxton Blind. Advertisement 'I've got to go to South America and play,' said Smith. 'I've got to play with some incredible people, learn from incredible coaches. I'm so grateful for the game, it's opened so many doors for me.' On Saturday, June 14, at Curry College, Smith helped lead the Eagles past Xaverian, 13-7, in the Division 1 state championship. The Eagles own a state-record five titles since it became an MIAA sport in 2017. For Smith and rugby, it was not love at first sight. 'It didn't immediately click,' said Smith, who also became a Patriot Ledger Football All-Scholastic as a center and defensive end. 'I really only joined it to get better at football, I feel like that's a lot of people's start. I really didn't enjoy it until the first game. Then after the first game, that's when (I was like), 'Yeah, this is for me.'' Battling the conditions On Saturday, the Eagles battled through damp conditions and a tense few final minutes to hold off rival Xaverian to retain the state championship. BC High also defeated the Hawks in a 40-38 thriller for last year's state title and won a 36-35 contest on April 30 this season. Boston College High School's captain Mike Smith holds the trophy as he celebrates with teammates at the conclusion of their state championship game against Xaverian Brothers High School at Curry College on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Trailing 13-0, Xaverian finally broke through with two minutes remaining on a try from captain Luke Bell. A conversion kick from Benjamin Kramer cut the deficit to 13-7. Advertisement But the Eagles held on to raise the trophy. 'Whether we win by 1 point or 100, it doesn't matter, we've just got to find that one extra gear,' said BC High coach Paul Carty. 'The defense stepped up today, which was awesome.' The Eagles came in averaging nearly 57 points per game, including a 68-14 win over three-time defending Div. 2 champ Weymouth in the semifinals. Saturday's weather pushed the final in a more defensive direction. 'Maybe not the style we most want to play, but I think these guys would play in a volcano, a hurricane or a tornado,' said Carty. 'They love each other and they love playing.' 'He looks like a horse galloping through the field,' said Carty of Thomison. 'He doesn't swerve or cut. He just goes. He's become a lot more of a leader this year.' 'It feels better than the first time,' said Thomison of repeating as state champions. Freshman Cillian O'Callaghan pushed the Eagles' lead to 8-0 on a try with 21 minutes remaining in the first half. Max Ford tacked on a try in the second half to push the lead to 13-0. This article originally appeared on The Patriot Ledger: BC High defeats Xaverian in MIAA Division 1 rugby state championship

Hanover High boys rugby caps dominant season with state title

MILTON — The Hanover High boys rugby won one of the inaugural rugby titles in 2017 when it was adopted as an official MIAA sport. The road to a second one has been arduous. That is until Saturday, June 14, when the Hawks left no doubt who the best team in Div. 2 is with a 59-7 win over Brookline at Curry College. Advertisement "We've had some strong teams over the years but this is hands down the most talented,' said Hanover coach Andrew McLean. 'Today was as close to perfect as we've been all season.' Hanover has reached the state semifinals every single tournament since 2017, including three losses in the final. This season, the Hawks finish 0-0 while outscoring opponents 404-69. Hanover never allowed more than 14 points in a single and the Hawks won their two playoff games by a score of 113-12. On Saturday it was all Hawks from start to finish. Lochlan Garvey started the scoring with a try four minutes into play. He converted all but two of his conversion kicks and had a pair of passes to spring teammates Camden Scott and Daniel McAvay for tries late in the second half. Advertisement 'That was probably Lochlan's best game for us,' said McLean. Garvy, a senior captain, is just one piece of a loaded senior class. McLean substituted Aidan Boutin and John Keegan late so the crowd could acknowledge them for stellar four-year careers. Hanover High School captains Aidan Boutin, Lochlan Garvey and Juneau Mofford hold the state championship trophy as they celebrate at the conclusion of their championship game against Brookline High School at Curry College on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Love'on Flowers, a senior flanker, scored a pair of tries. David Bonilla and Juneau Mofford each had one try. Matthew Ellerby, a junior, was the only non-senior to score for the Hawks. 'I can't overstate what a big class that's been for the whole program,' said McLean, who said that most of his 17 seniors will continue to play rugby in college. One senior who did not play but his importance cannot be overlooked is Noah Balewicz. He was diagnosed with lymphoma at the start of the season and has not suited up this spring as he undergoes treatment. Advertisement Following the victory, the Hawks presented Balewicz with a framed jersey. Hanover High School's Juneau Mofford scores against Brookline High School during the championship game at Curry College on Saturday, June 14, 2025. "He doesn't like the limelight so I probably just embarrassed him,' said McLean. 'He's doing great but any cancer treatment takes its toll on you. We're so happy he could be here today.' Balewicz also played football and competed in wrestling. 'As the season has gone on and we've found out how well he's been doing with his treatment and with how strong he's been, it's morphed more into inspiration,' said McLean. 'We just wanted to give him a little something from the team even though he's not playing, he's always part of the team.'
