SMJ Energy records 40pc rise in profit to RM362 million

Kota Kinabalu: SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd (SMJ Energy) recorded a profit after tax of RM362 million based on its unaudited financial results for the year ended Dec 31, 2024, a nearly 40 per cent increase from RM259 million in 2023. The impressive performance underscores the company's resilience and strong fundamentals, achieved despite a volatile global energy landscape. The growth was driven by strategic asset optimisation, disciplined cost management and sustained revenue growth. Revenue for the year saw a significant year-on-year increase, bolstered by strong contributions from key assets such as the Samarang Production Sharing Contract (PSC), LNG Train 9 liquefaction plant, Petronas Chemical Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd (PCFSSB), as well as Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) and Floating Storage Operations (FSO) under Sabah International Petroleum (SIP), which remains debt-free. Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also Chairman of SMJ Energy, attributed the achievement to the dedication and professionalism of the company's team, in close collaboration with key stakeholders, including Petronas. 'With a well-balanced portfolio across Upstream, LNG, Petchem and FPSO/FSO segments, SMJ Energy is well-positioned to maintain financial strength even in a low oil price environment,' he said. However, Masidi urged continued vigilance amid global economic uncertainties, including the ongoing tariff conflicts and fluctuating oil prices. 'The volatility in global oil markets highlights the importance of maintaining proactive risk management and prudent investment strategies,' he said. Beyond profitability, SMJ Energy is playing an active role in strengthening local participation in Sabah's oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) sector. Sabah governor urges integrity, honours 60 at investiture
KOTA KINABALU: Integrity must be upheld across all levels of administration and leadership in Sabah to maintain public trust in government institutions, said Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman. He said it is his aspiration to see the state governed with integrity, accountability and wisdom, supported by sustainable development plans that prioritise the people's well-being. He further called for continued unity among the people, describing it as the foundation for peace and progress in Sabah. Tun Musa also commended Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his Cabinet for their commitment to advancing the state in line with a more inclusive and sustainable development agenda. Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim led today's honours list after being conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'. Businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Albert Lim Yu Ming were also awarded the SPDK. A total of 37 individuals received the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title 'Datuk'. Among the recipients were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Dr Fuziah Salleh and Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang. Other PGDK recipients included Senator Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian, Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim, Amanah Sabah chairman Lahirul Latigu, Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai, Sabah Special Branch chief SAC Abdul Rahman Ishak, State Health director Dr Maria Suleiman, and veteran journalist Emin Madi of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Sabah Bureau. The first session of the investiture ceremony also saw five individuals receiving the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), four each receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) and Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), and six receiving the Justice of the Peace (JP) title. Earlier, Musa, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, attended the parade held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah at Padang Merdeka.

Lawsuit issue: Fazura leaves it to her lawyers

Despite being repeatedly pressed by the claimant as well as by netizens on social media to address the issue, the celebrity has remained silent, going about her daily life, including promoting her headscarves on social media. Speaking to reporters at a press conference after launching the music video of her latest single 'Luar Biasa' here last night, Fazura, 41, said the lawsuit against her company is a confidential matter and has been handed over to her lawyers for further action. Fazura, who is also a singer and television host, said she preferred not to comment further as it involves two separate entities. "Honestly, there's nothing I can explain because we have to understand that I, Fazura, and the company are two different entities. I can't comment on company matters as that is beyond my scope as an individual. The company is the company, and Fazura is me personally, that's the distinction. "So really, I can't say much about the company or whatever is going on. I've left all my company-related matters to my lawyers to take action," she said. Fazura made these remarks when asked by reporters to comment on the RM4.65 million lawsuit filed by a headscarf supplier against her company Pink Fate Sdn Bhd. Advertisement Admitting that she is affected by the controversy, the 'Pisau Cukur' star said such issues are among the challenges any entrepreneur must face. "What haven't I gone through in the past eight months? Of course, I've been affected. I'm not someone without feelings but as an entrepreneur, I understand this is normal. I don't think it's necessary to explain, because outsiders may not understand and could twist the facts," she said. "I know the business I'm running isn't a small one and I'm confident all entrepreneurs out there will understand the challenges that come with being in the business world," she added. According to media reports early last month, headscarf manufacturer Obor Holding Sdn Bhd is taking legal action against Pink Fate for allegedly owing the company RM4.65 million.
