Integrity must be embedded in all levels of Sabah's administration
KOTA KINABALU: Integrity must be upheld across all levels of administration and leadership in Sabah to maintain public trust in government institutions, said Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman.
He said it is his aspiration to see the state governed with integrity, accountability and wisdom, supported by sustainable development plans that prioritise the people's well-being.
'I believe with strong leadership and the support of the people, Sabah will continue to grow and prosper,' he said in a special address in conjunction with his 74th official birthday here today.
He delivered the address at the 2025 Sabah Investiture Ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu, where 60 individuals received state awards, medals and honours.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other state leaders.
Tun Musa emphasised the need to strengthen development efforts to ensure sustainable and inclusive progress, through close cooperation between the government and the people.
He also stressed the importance of addressing global challenges through progressive approaches, including the promotion of technological innovation, development of quality human capital, and the building of a resilient economy
'Building a dynamic and competitive society is crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the state's development,' he said.
He further called for continued unity among the people, describing it as the foundation for peace and progress in Sabah.
Tun Musa also commended Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his Cabinet for their commitment to advancing the state in line with a more inclusive and sustainable development agenda.
Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim led today's honours list after being conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'.
Businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Albert Lim Yu Ming were also awarded the SPDK.
A total of 37 individuals received the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title 'Datuk'. Among the recipients were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Dr Fuziah Salleh and Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang.
Other PGDK recipients included Senator Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian, Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim, Amanah Sabah chairman Lahirul Latigu, Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai, Sabah Special Branch chief SAC Abdul Rahman Ishak, State Health director Dr Maria Suleiman, and veteran journalist Emin Madi of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Sabah Bureau.
The first session of the investiture ceremony also saw five individuals receiving the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), four each receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) and Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), and six receiving the Justice of the Peace (JP) title.
Earlier, Musa, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, attended the parade held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah at Padang Merdeka.

SD Guthrie, Sime Darby Property to develop industrial and logistics hub on Carey Island
PETALING JAYA: SD Guthrie Bhd and Sime Darby Property Bhd (SDP) have signed a joint venture agreement to develop up to 2,000 acres of land on Carey Island, Selangor, to support sustainable economic growth and innovation. The joint venture agreement is a culmination of discussions which began in 2023, and is driven by a shared vision for long-term value creation that will be formalised through the establishment of a special purpose vehicle (SPV). The collaboration represents a unique opportunity for both companies to unlock Carey Island's full potential, transforming it into a leading industrial and logistics hub that will co-exist with the integrated and well-established palm oil business on the island and complement the existing operations at Westports and Northport in Port Klang. Both SD Guthrie and SDP are strategic investee companies of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), one of the largest fund management companies in Malaysia. PNB will nominate the chairman of the newly formed SPV. PNB president and group chief executive Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad said, 'We laud and greatly support this joint venture between SD Guthrie and SDP, which aligns with national aspirations and GEAR-uP initiatives by the government in catalysing domestic investments. This collaboration between PNB's two strategic companies will provide a boost towards the sustainable development of this high potential area as well as help bolster further Malaysia's economic and industrialisation growth.' The 2,000 acre site on Carey Island provides the scalability required for world-class logistics facilities, integrated supply chains and high-value industrial developments, required to attract global players and investments. The port will thus be well positioned to compete with ports in Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, giving a boost to Malaysia's aspirations to become a logistics powerhouse in the region. Today, Carey Island is celebrated for its fully integrated oil palm plantation, the last one of its kind in the Greater Klang Valley. It is an important location for the Malaysian plantation industry and is used frequently to host visitors from around the world, including foreign government delegations, ambassadors, research and development (R&D) institutions and universities. SD Guthrie operates two estates and palm oil mills on the island, all of which are certified to the highest sustainability standards in the world. Also on the island are a kernel crushing plant, biodiesel plant, R&D facilities, robotics and innovation centre and nursery. Palm oil produced in Carey Island is processed in two large refineries located nearby in Langat and Port Klang, which serve customers from around the world. There are also 14 historical buildings on Carey Island that are listed as heritage sites by the National Heritage Department, a large biodiversity park and sensitive mangrove ecosystems that are maintained by SD Guthrie. Combined with the thriving plantation business, the new development on Carey Island will stimulate economic growth, generate employment opportunities and uplift the local economy while preserving the valuable heritage elements of the site. The strategic approach to foster sustainable value creation will ensure that the needs and well-being of local communities, including the indigenous Mah Meri people on the island, are prioritised. SD Guthrie owns 79% of Carey Island, or 28,646 acres. The plantation is managed sustainably to ensure environmental conservation. In 2024, SD Guthrie announced its expansion into two new business areas: industrial parks and renewable energy. In a joint statement issued by the two companies, SD Guthrie group managing director Datuk Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha said, 'We fully support the government's aspirations to accelerate the growth of international trade and cater to the demand for innovative industrial facilities. Carey Island has been identified by the government as the new site for a world-class port due to its suitable and strategic location near Port Klang, and proximity to Pulau Indah. 'Additionally, the island is conveniently connected to the city via the South Klang Valley Expressway which integrates with the North-South Expressway, ensuring accessibility.' SDP group managing director and CEO Datuk Seri Azmir Merican said, 'We are excited to partner with SD Guthrie on this timely opportunity to unlock value in Carey Island as a dynamic port and advance the nation's aspirations of becoming a regional logistics and economic hub. Don't embrace party hoppers, Khaled tells unity govt partners
BATU PAHAT: Umno issued a firm reminder to its partners in the unity government not to accept party leaders and members looking to defect, warning that doing so will undermine political stability and mutual trust. Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, without naming names, said such behaviour could weaken the coalition's cohesion and must not be encouraged. "This is the message I want to send – if no party receives defectors, this issue won't arise," he said during the opening of the Batu Pahat Umno division delegates meeting today, attended by division chief Zaidi Japar. He stressed that party-hopping was rarely about ideology and more often driven by personal ambition. "Let's be honest, most who jump ship do it for position, rewards and power, not principles," he said. Taking a jab at disloyal leaders, Khaled cited the loyalty shown by the Iranian Jewish community to their country, which he said despite the recent conflict with Israel, had chosen to follow the Iranian leadership. "In Iran, 20 per cent of the population is Jewish, yet they stand with their government against Israel. But here, we are not even at war and some are already switching sides. What does that say?" He lamented the presence of leaders who were willing to abandon the party, calling it "unfortunate" and counterproductive to the party's long-term struggle. Khaled called on grassroots members to remain committed even in disagreement, saying loyalty was key to building a strong front capable of weathering future challenges. "We can only face difficult decisions and push our struggle forward through unity and discipline — not by chasing temporary gains," he said.

ALOR SETAR, June 22 (Bernama) -- Chief of the Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaafar headed the list of recipients of state honours in conjunction with the 83rd birthday of the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah Aman, today. Mohd Nizam was conferred the Darjah Datuk Seri Setia Pahlawan Yang Amat Dihormati (SSPK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Pahlawan', at an investiture ceremony held at Istana Anak Bukit here. The Sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff; the Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah; and the Tunku Mahkota of Kedah, Tunku Shazuddin Ariff, also graced the ceremony. Also present were Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, state secretary Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali and members of the State Executive Council. Sultan Sallehuddin also conferred the Darjah Datuk Seri Setia Pahlawan Yang Amat Dihormati (SSPK), which carries the titles 'Datuk Seri Indera Setia' and 'Datuk Seri Derma Wangsa', respectively, on Tun Zaki Tun Azmi and Tan Sri Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim. Three individuals were awarded the Darjah Dato' Setia Pahlawan Negeri Kedah Yang Amat Dihormati (DSPK), which carries the title 'Datuk Pahlawan'. They were Royal Malaysian Air Force Joint Force Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Zahani Zainal Abidin and Royal Malaysian Navy Deputy Chief Vice Admiral Datuk Ts Shamsuddin Ludin. Kedah Public Works, Natural Resources, Water Supply and Environment Committee chairman Mohamad Yusoff Zakaria received the Darjah Dato' Setia Sultan Sallehuddin Kedah (DSSS), which carries the title 'Datuk'. Six individuals were conferred the Darjah Dato' Setia Diraja Kedah (DSDK), which also carries the title 'Datuk'. They were Kubang Pasu District Officer Muhamad Mahazi Ibrahim; Malaysian Ambassador to Bahrain Shazryll Zahiran; Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli; Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Investigation Division director Datuk Zainul Darus; Honorary Secretary of the Kedah State Council of Justices of the Peace Ahmad Fatahi Omar; and Fuji Electric Malaysia Sdn Bhd executive director Chong Nee Hwa. The Darjah Dato' Setia Pahlawan (DDSP), which carries the title 'Datuk', was bestowed on the Ministry of Defence's Logistics Division Assistant Chief of Staff Brigadier General Abd Hafiz Ahmad and Malaysian Armed Forces Director of Infantry Brigadier General Saiful Bahari Zainol.
