RM30 Mln allocation Will Boost Digital Shift In Media Industry

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The RM30 million allocation for local media organisations will support digital transformation and the adoption of new technologies in content creation, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa said.
The allocation was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when he officiated the National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2025 main event held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) here today, in line with efforts to strengthen the media ecosystem and sustainability in the country.
Mohamad Fauzi, who was present at the event, also welcomed AirAsia's one-time 50 per cent discount offer for all verified media practitioners on flights to 57 destinations across ASEAN, describing it as greatly appreciated.

"WhatsApp messages and similar platforms were completely inaccessible, though I believe some access is gradually returning, but still tightly controlled to ensure that sensitive information related to security issues isn't leaked,' he spoke to reporters last night. He arrived from Iran with a group of 24 individuals, comprising 17 Malaysians, six Iranian dependents of Malaysian citizens, and one Singaporean. Khairi said the situation in Iran was volatile, with both foreign nationals and locals equally shocked by the severity of the attack, which he described as drastic. "After a day or two, we began to observe a pattern in the attacks. They were more intense at night, while during the day, it seemed as though both sides had come to a mutual understanding to scale back the assaults. "As we all know, they already identified the targets, and if one side launched a strike on certain facilities, the other side would respond. But we were always on high alert because if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could easily find yourself in a situation you definitely wouldn't want to be in,' he said. The government ordered the temporary closure of the Malaysian Embassy in Iran, instructing all embassy personnel in the country to return home immediately. Meanwhile, a trader, Fadhil Yusni, 33, expressed his gratitude at being reunited with his wife, Zainab Ganood, an Iranian national who was visiting her parents. "I panicked because I couldn't reach my wife. Alhamdulillah, tonight I feel grateful. Thank you to the government and the Foreign Ministry for evacuating my wife out of Iran,' he said, adding that he is now finding the best way to help his wife's family leave the conflict-stricken country safely. KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) – Deputy Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers conveyed their condolences to Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg over the death of the Sarawak Premier's wife Puan Sri Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang today. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a statement, described her passing as a great loss to the people of the state. He added that her loss is not only felt by her immediate family but is also mourned by the people of Sarawak, who greatly valued her contributions and service. "The Premier's late wife, whom I had the honour of knowing, was a gracious and gentle soul who was deeply committed to charitable and social work, especially in empowering women and communities in Sarawak. 'I represented the federal government this morning in visiting the Sarawak Premier's family, conveying our condolences and expressing the solidarity and prayers of all Malaysians in this time of sorrow. 'I pray that Allah will shower His mercy upon her soul, forgive all her sins, and place her among the righteous. May Abang Johari and his family be granted strength, patience and acceptance in facing this trying time,' he said. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in a Facebook post, expressed his condolences and described her passing as a significant loss to the people of Sarawak. Malaysia's moral dilemma in Mid-East crisis: Condemn Israel but softly ticks off US for bombing Iran

HAVING long positioned itself as a champion of the Palestinian struggle for dignity and statehood, Malaysia cannot afford to adopt a wishy-washy stance on the on-going war between Israel and Iran. To make matters worse, the US under the leadership of President Donald Trump has entered the fray by throwing its weight behind Israel and intensifying the conflict. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim – once regarded as one of the most vocal supporters of the Palestinian cause – now appears to be retreating into ambiguity. His recent calls for a cessation of hostilities fall short of the bold advocacy he was once known for. The bravado he exhibited in the past seems to have vanished into thin air. While Anwar has condemned Israel, he has notably refrained from censuring the US for its role in fuelling the war. Is he afraid of confronting the so-called global superpower? He is only able to offer a mild criticism on the world's biggest economy by describing Washington's interference in the Iran-Israel conflict as potentially worsening the situation and undermine regional stability as well as the global economy. Selective condemnation 'Now, with the involvement of external powers, including the US, the situation will only become more volatile. If the Straits of Hormuz is blocked, it will pose a major problem to the global economy,' he told reporters after a session with the Sarawak PKR Leadership Council yesterday (June 22). But this is a slap on the wrist at best. What Malaysia needs now is decisive leadership. Anwar should urgently convene a special session of Parliament to allow MPs to debate the conflict a conflict with potentially severe regional and global consequences. Will Anwar dare to hold Israel and the US accountable for their diabolical roles in this escalating war? And will he also have the political courage to condemn Iran for its on-going involvement in proxy wars across the Middle East? It is one thing to denounce Israel – a country with which Malaysia has no diplomatic relations – but quite another to challenge the US, especially under an erratic administration.
