'WWE Raw' Ends in Shocking Fashion With New Champion
'WWE Raw' Ends in Shocking Fashion With New Champion originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Gunther is now a two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
One night after he competed in a tag team main event at "Money in the Bank 2025," Jey Uso put the top male prize on the red brand on the line against "The Ring General." Uso didn't enter the match at 100 percent health, as he had been attacked by Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed in recent weeks.

It was clear that the attacks had a negative impact on Uso during "WWE Raw." Ultimately, "The Ring General" choked Uso out to enter his second reign with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
It was a surprising finish for those who thought Rollins would successfully cash in his MITB briefcase. Such a move would've marked Rollins' second reign with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He also would've been a six-time WWE world champion, but it wasn't meant to be on this night.
Uso thought he had the match won when he hit a spear on Gunther, followed by the Uso Splash. The challenger ended up kicking out.

Uso's injured ribs was a major talking point on commentary. The aforementioned attacks from Rollins, Breakker, and Reed were to blame for Uso's injury. Reed's Tsunami splashes during last week's episode of "Raw" proved to have done the most damage.
Many are now left to wonder what WWE's plans are for "Raw's" world title just two months prior to "SummerSlam." Some were under the impression that Uso would hold onto the title at least until WWE's August PLE, but the reign didn't reach a full two months.

'Things Will Get Ugly...' If Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield Regresses in 2025
'Things Will Get Ugly...' If Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield Regresses in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has had, by definition, a complete career resurgence since arriving in town ahead of the 2023 season. Advertisement All he's done is post two straight career seasons under two different offensive coordinators. Mayfield passed for 4,044 yards in 2023 and 4,500 last season, both career highs, and 28 touchdowns in 2023 before eclipsing that with 41 touchdown passes last season, again, both career highs. His upward trend is unquestionable right now, but at least one analyst thinks that could change this season. Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine thinks Mayfield could suffer a regression in 2025, and that would be bad for the Bucs. "Mayfield has been on an upward trajectory since joining the Bucs in 2023, but it's worth noting that year-to-year consistency has been an issue for him. His Browns career was marred by his inability to be the best version of himself every year," Ballentine wrote. "Unfortunately, a lot of that could be tied to turbulent coaching situations. The Browns didn't give him a lot of stability, and he hasn't enjoyed much of it since then. On one hand, that means he's used to working with a new coach just about every year. "On the other, there seems to be a pattern of Mayfield only performing well when he has a good coach orchestrating the offense. That's going to put even more pressure on Grizzard to pick up where Coen left off. Things will get ugly if Mayfield regresses with this much talent around him." Advertisement Mayfield and the Buccaneers might have the best offensive roster they've had since he arrived in town, and what's more, the defensive roster might be the most impressive, too. If Mayfield can keep trending upward, Tampa Bay will have a great chance for its third franchise Super Bowl. 49ers' George Kittle on Robert Saleh Return: 'Violence is Coming'
49ers' George Kittle on Robert Saleh Return: 'Violence is Coming' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Since Robert Saleh left to join the New York Jets, the San Francisco 49ers have struggled to find a consistent defensive play-caller. Advertisement First, DeMeco Ryans was promoted to the defensive coordinator role. Then it was Steve Wilks. Through the years, only a few coaches could match the intensity and production Saleh was able to get out of his group. After a disaster ending in New York, Saleh is back as the 49ers defensive play-caller. And the rest of the organization is thrilled with that reality. "Violence is coming is what I would say," 49ers tight end George Kittle said Tuesday on The Rich Eisen Show. "He's really good at his job, and I'm really excited that we somehow convinced him to be our defensive coordinator again. "So, I'm pumped to have him back in the building, just hanging out with him a little bit, talking about stuff. You can just tell he's ready to roll this year, and he's gonna get the boys fired up." Advertisement San Francisco is coming off a down season last year, which was largely due to injuries on both sides of the ball. Losing several key starters on defense this offseason makes their quest to get back to championship contention even harder. If Saleh can keep the group afloat in 2025, though, San Francisco should be able to overcome its struggles last season. They may keep Saleh around for the long term as well. Joe Coffey's Current Status Despite the potential interest in the AEW Glasgow show, Coffey's immediate future has a significant hurdle. He has recently stated that he is "landlocked" in the United States. His work visa was tied to his WWE contract, complicating his ability to travel and wrestle internationally for now. Coffey first appeared in WWE during an NXT event at the Download Festival in 2018. He, his brother Mark, and Wolfgang officially formed Gallus on the January 9, 2019, episode of NXT UK. WWE broke into the United Kingdom wrestling scene, NXT UK, began with a championship tournament in January 2017, won by Tyler Bate. The brand officially launched its weekly show in October 2018, establishing a platform for European talent.
