Before going to court, Telangana willing to talk with AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, says CM Revanth Reddy; seeks cordial ties like with Karnataka

HYDERABAD: A day after submitting a strong objection with the Centre against the Banakacherla project of Andhra Pradesh govt, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said the state cabinet meeting on June 23 will discuss inviting AP chief minister
N Chandrababu Naidu
, ministers and officials for talks on the contentious issue between the two Telugu riparian states.
In a chat with media in New Delhi before returning to Hyderabad after his two-day tour, Revanth said the Telangana govt did not want to continue controversies which can be resolved through talks. "There will be no compromise on river water interests of Telangana, but before availing the option of going to court, we are willing to hold talks with Chandrababu Naidu. A solution can be found between the two states only through talks.
We do not want unnecessary disputes. Our policy is to continue cordial relations with AP like we are doing so with Karnataka. Like AP is claiming that it has certain rights being a downstream state, even Telangana has similar rights," he said.
He said that Chandrababu Naidu first approached the central govt for the project without consulting Telangana. "That is our objection. We have already formed committees at ministerial level to resolve issues arising out of AP State Reorganisation Act between the two states.

BRS MLA and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao is accusing Congress govt out of frustration as both he and former CM KCR stand exposed for compromising with AP govt on river water interests of Telangana," Revanth said.
'No mention in Act'
The CM also pointed out that only Polavaram project is mentioned in the Reorganisation Act. Banakacherla is an ancillary project of Polavaram, which has no mention in the Act, Revanth said.
"I am seeking a blanket NOC for 500 TMC share in Krishna river water, whereas Harish Rao, in his letter to the Centre, sought only 405 TMC. The AP state should think about taking up projects only after Telangana state completes all its projects and utilises its rightful share of water. The BRS came to power on the plank of water, funds and jobs. It is now trying to use the water sentiment again as a Sanjeevini (lifeline) to revive the party ," Revanth said, adding he will visit New Delhi again on July 6 and 7.
He further said: "A day before I met Union ministers, including CR Patil, BJP state president and Union minister G Kishan Reddy also met them. He is working as a liaison officer for KT Rama Rao. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah said the Kaleshwaram was like an ATM for previous BRS govt. Now, BJP MP Eatala Rajender is claiming that Kaleshwaram was taken with the approval of KCR cabinet. Kishan Reddy should clarify whether Modi and Shah are speaking the truth or Eatala is correct.

SIT summons BJP leader in T'gana phone-tapping case

The Special Investigation Team of the Telangana police probing the alleged phone tapping during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime, summoned a close aide of Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay for questioning in connection with the case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disclosed on Friday. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped (HT Archive) In a statement, the Telangana BJP said the SIT officials had confirmed on Friday that the phone of Bandi Sanjay's close aide and BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, Boyinapalli Praveen Rao, was tapped during the previous BRS regime. 'The SIT authorities called up Praveen Rao and informed him that his phone number was also in the list of those which were tapped. They said they would summon him shortly, and he would be required to appear before the investigating authorities for questioning,' the BJP said. Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, too, confirmed that he had received the information from the investigating authorities that his phone, too, was tapped during the previous regime. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped. 'Now, the investigation has revealed that the phones of his staff and close associates were also tapped,' it said. The party said Praveen Rao has been a long-time associate of Bandi Sanjay and had managed Sanjay's election campaigns in the past. 'In recent years, Praveen Rao has served as Sanjay's personal assistant and the BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, coordinating constituency tours and supervising the execution of various programmes,' it said. It said Praveen Rao had taken part in the agitations of Sanjay during the BRS regime against forcible implementation of GO 317 (on employees' transfers), leakage of Class 10 examination paper, communal violence at Bhainsa and other such incidents. 'He was even named as a co-accused in several public agitation-related cases alongside Sanjay,' the party said. Premender Reddy also said the SIT authorities had informed him, too, that his phone was also tapped during the BRS regime. 'I shall hand over all the evidence and other details of my mobile phone to the Jubilee Hills police on Monday,' he said, adding that if the police did not take any action even after gathering all the details, the state government would be held responsible.

Houthis warn Trump administration amid Israel-Iran conflict, threaten to resume attacks on US vessels in Red Sea if...

If Donald Trump joins forces with Israel's military in the conflict against Iran, Houthi rebels in Yemen have threatened to attack US vessels and warships in the Red Sea. According to a latest AP report, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, have issued a recorded statement of Houthi military spokesman Brig Gen Yahya Saree, which suggests that the rebel forces wiuld attack the United States' military resources in the Red Sea, if the US decides to join forces with Israel in the ongoing conflict against Iran. 'In the event of the American involvement in the attack and aggression against Iran with the Israeli enemy, the armed forces will target its ships and warships in the Red Sea,' Saree said, according to a report by AP. This comes amid the US' deliberation on whether it should enter the conflict between Israel and Iran. While Donald Trump has given Iran two weeks to reach a deal around its nuclear programmes and inform Washington, it is yet to be seen how Khamenei's administration responds. Iran has already informed that its nuclear projects are not for developing weapons, but US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, in a recent statement, has claimed that Iran currently possesses the resources to develop a nuclear weapon in a matter of weeks. Trump has also informed that the US's patience is running thin, and reports suggest that the White House is currently contemplating its participation in the Israel-Iran conflict.
