Before going to court, Telangana willing to talk with AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, says CM Revanth Reddy; seeks cordial ties like with Karnataka
HYDERABAD: A day after submitting a strong objection with the Centre against the Banakacherla project of Andhra Pradesh govt, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said the state cabinet meeting on June 23 will discuss inviting AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu , ministers and officials for talks on the contentious issue between the two Telugu riparian states. In a chat with media in New Delhi before returning to Hyderabad after his two-day tour, Revanth said the Telangana govt did not want to continue controversies which can be resolved through talks. "There will be no compromise on river water interests of Telangana, but before availing the option of going to court, we are willing to hold talks with Chandrababu Naidu. A solution can be found between the two states only through talks. We do not want unnecessary disputes. Our policy is to continue cordial relations with AP like we are doing so with Karnataka. Like AP is claiming that it has certain rights being a downstream state, even Telangana has similar rights," he said. He said that Chandrababu Naidu first approached the central govt for the project without consulting Telangana. "That is our objection. We have already formed committees at ministerial level to resolve issues arising out of AP State Reorganisation Act between the two states. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không? 'No mention in Act' The CM also pointed out that only Polavaram project is mentioned in the Reorganisation Act. Banakacherla is an ancillary project of Polavaram, which has no mention in the Act, Revanth said. "I am seeking a blanket NOC for 500 TMC share in Krishna river water, whereas Harish Rao, in his letter to the Centre, sought only 405 TMC. The AP state should think about taking up projects only after Telangana state completes all its projects and utilises its rightful share of water. The BRS came to power on the plank of water, funds and jobs. It is now trying to use the water sentiment again as a Sanjeevini (lifeline) to revive the party ," Revanth said, adding he will visit New Delhi again on July 6 and 7. He further said: "A day before I met Union ministers, including CR Patil, BJP state president and Union minister G Kishan Reddy also met them. He is working as a liaison officer for KT Rama Rao. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah said the Kaleshwaram was like an ATM for previous BRS govt. Now, BJP MP Eatala Rajender is claiming that Kaleshwaram was taken with the approval of KCR cabinet. Kishan Reddy should clarify whether Modi and Shah are speaking the truth or Eatala is correct. "

Notify Amaravati as State Capital in next Parliment session, CM Naidu urges Amit Shah
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu requested the Centre to include Amaravati as the State Capital and and notify it in the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act. Speaking to media after meeting several Union Ministers on Friday, Naidu said that during his discussion with Home Minister Amit Shah, he urged the Centre to notify Amaravati as the Capital of AP. Though it was mentioned in the AP State Reorganisation Act that Hyderabad would remain as the common capital for both AP and Telangana for 10 years after the State bifurcation, it did not mention the capital of the residual Andhra Pradesh. With the ten-year period now concluded, the Chief Minister urged the Union Home Minister to take up the matter in the upcoming session of Parliament and officially designate Amaravati as the State capital. Naidu said that Shah had agreed to notify Amaravati as the capital of AP. The CM also attended a review meeting chaired by the Union Home Minister to discuss the implementation of the three new criminal laws. Accusing the previous YSRCP government for causing significant damage, Naidu said that although the coalition government has made some progress in restoring administrative order, it will take more time to fully recover from the damage done between 2019-24. Rajnath asked to set up military cantonment in AP During a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Naidu presented a strategic vision to establish the state as a national hub for defence manufacturing and aerospace innovation. Naidu outlined a comprehensive plan encompassing industrial infrastructure, research collaborations, and strategic installations across key locations in AP. The proposals include development of integrated defence facilities, revival of critical manufacturing units, support for indigenous aviation programmes, establishment of testing and training centres, and creation of thematic defence hubs to promote regional specialisation. Naidu also requested the Defence Minister to establish a military cantonment in the state. 'When asked about military cantonment, the Defence Minister said he would examine the matter,' the CM said. Naidu underlined AP's readiness-with its strong infrastructure base, skilled workforce, and proactive policy environment-to play a leading role in advancing Aatmanirbhar Bharat through self-reliant defence production. Naidu also met Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and submitted a proposal for the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project.

Amend AP Act to make Amaravati as State capital, Cabinet to Centre
VIJAYAWADA: The State Cabinet meeting, held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, approved Amaravati as the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. A resolution naming Amaravati as the capital of the residual state of Andhra Pradesh will be sent to the Centre to amend the AP State Reorganisation Act. Sections 2 and 5 of the AP State Reorganisation Act mention that Hyderabad would serve as the joint capital for ten years following the State bifurcation. After this period, Hyderabad would become the capital of Telangana, and the newly constructed capital by Andhra Pradesh would become its own. However, the Act did not specify the name of Andhra Pradesh's new capital. Therefore, the Cabinet has decided to send a resolution to the Centre to officially include Amaravati as the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Similar to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the area governed by the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) will form part of Amaravati. Disclosing details of the Cabinet meeting to mediapersons, Minister for Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathy stated that the people of Andhra Pradesh had no clarity regarding their capital for the past five years due to the 'three capitals' theory proposed by the previous government. The current coalition government has now decided to seek statutory approval for Amaravati as the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The Cabinet expressed solidarity with Operation Sindoor, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against Pakistan, and commended the strength and valour demonstrated by the Indian Army during the operation. The State Cabinet approved a proposal authorizing the Commissioner of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) to approve short tenders for four works worth `1,732.306 crores, award contracts to L1 bidders, and implement decisions approved by the Andhra Pradesh CRDA Authority through Resolutions 529/2025 to 532/2025.
