Wisconsin football wide receiver announces transfer destination
Wisconsin transfer wide receiver Mark Hamper committed to Cal on Wednesday, as first reported by On3's Hayes Fawcett.
The now-former Badger chose the Bears over New Mexico and Arizona State. He reportedly took visits to each over the last few weeks.
Hamper reentered the portal earlier this spring after just four months at Wisconsin. He joined the program as a winter transfer addition on December 20, following a breakout redshirt freshman season at Idaho (48 receptions, 966 receiving yards and six touchdowns). He earned Football Championship Subdivision Freshman All-American honors for that output. Unsurprisingly, he was considered one of the top receiver transfers from the FCS level.
Hamper now joins a Cal program that has gone 6-7 in each of the last two seasons. It has reached four bowl games in eight total years under head coach Justin Wilcox, its best season being an 8-5 finish in 2019.
The Bears are set to return a veteran wide receiver corps entering 2025, led by top 2024 contributors Trond Grizzell (28 catches, 401 yards, one touchdown in 2024) and Jonathan Brady (36 catches, 386 yards, three touchdowns), plus UNLV transfer Jacob De Jesus (36 catches, 512 yards, three touchdowns). While Hamper may not start immediately, a clear path to playing time was a likely selling point of the commitment.
The FCS transfer joins Cal with three years of eligibility remaining. According to On3, he was the top-ranked uncommitted transfer wide receiver at this late stage of the spring.
Hamper left a Wisconsin wide receiver room that is set to be led by Vinny Anthony (39 catches, 672 yards, four touchdowns in 2024), transfer Jayden Ballard (two catches, 18 yards at Ohio State) and Trech Kekahuna (25 catches, 339 yards, two touchdowns) in 2025. Past that top trio, the former Idaho receiver projected as a primary backup at either boundary position.
Wisconsin is still in the portal looking to replace Hamper and veteran transfer Quincy Burroughs. The program recently missed out on two reported targets. It has since offered Hawaii transfer Dekel Crowdus and reportedly expressed interest in UConn transfer Jasaiah Gathings. For more, bookmark our spring transfer window tracker.

Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski dominates Twins, starts career with MLB record 11 no-hit innings

MINNEAPOLIS — 'How does anyone ever get a hit off this guy?' is a common rhetorical question when a highly touted pitching prospect gets called up to the majors and immediately dominates. And through Milwaukee Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski's first 11 innings in the big leagues, the answer was: They didn't. Advertisement Misiorowski threw five no-hit innings in his MLB debut June 12 against the St. Louis Cardinals before leaving the game three pitches into the sixth inning with calf and quadriceps cramping. It proved to be a minor issue, and the 23-year-old consensus top-100 prospect made his second career start Friday night versus the Minnesota Twins, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning. Things unraveled quickly from there as Misiorowski ran out of gas, with Byron Buxton drawing a leadoff walk to break up the perfect game and Matt Wallner yanking a two-run homer down the right-field line to end the no-hitter and the shutout in a 17-6 Brewers victory. But the 6-foot-7 flame-thrower set the modern MLB record (since 1900) for most consecutive no-hit innings by a starting pitcher to begin a career. And he made quite an impression on everyone at Target Field, from the 28,011 fans in a Brewers-heavy crowd to the hitters in the Twins' overmatched lineup. 'He simply had an excellent day on the mound,' Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. 'He got in the zone when he needed to early. I mean, the stuff is good. He's very good. And he was able to put the ball where he wanted to.' Even his counterpart on the mound, Twins starter Joe Ryan, came away impressed with the rookie after allowing three runs to the Brewers over 5 1/3 innings in a 17-6 game that got away from the Twins late. 'Misiorowski was great,' Ryan said. 'I've actually seen some videos of him in the minors. He's got some of the best stuff in the big leagues. He's pretty electric.' FILTHY: Jacob Misiorowski just unleashed a 96 MPH slider 🤯 — MLB (@MLB) June 21, 2025 Misiorowski averaged 100.4 mph with his fastball, topping out at 102.1 mph, and his mid-90s slider produced some of the ugliest swings you'll ever see from a major-league team, including a particularly helpless whiff from Willi Castro that will probably be a permanent fixture on highlight reels. 'His slider was obviously really hard,' Castro said. 'He was dominating with that. Slider was 95, 96. You don't see that very often. It's really hard to pick up. He's really good.' And then just for good measure, Misiorowski struck out Kody Clemens with a 93.9 mph changeup — one of only two he threw all game — that was possibly his most unhittable offering in a night full of them. Jacob Misiorowski, Ridiculous 94mph Changeup. 😲 And Sword. ⚔️ — Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) June 21, 2025 Misiorowski threw 29 pitches at least 100 mph Friday, which is more than all but 23 starting pitchers have thrown, total, during the pitch-tracking era (since 2008). He threw only four fastballs below 99 mph all night, and three of them came in the seventh inning. Misiorowski is one of the most-hyped pitching prospects in baseball and racked up 320 strikeouts compared to just 138 hits allowed in 233 2/3 minor-league innings, with shaky control (5.4 walks per nine innings) qualifying as his biggest weakness. Advertisement But when his control is dialed in like it was Friday against the shell-shocked Twins, throwing 60 of 86 pitches for strikes, it's hard to imagine many starters in baseball history ever having more overpowering raw stuff. '(Misiorowski) has excellent stuff and he threw strikes,' Baldelli said. 'We wanted to challenge him to throw strikes and force him in the zone. He did. He pounded the zone with all of his stuff.' The only good news for the Twins, who lost for the 11th time in 14 games: They won't have to face Misiorowski again until next season. His next scheduled start is Tuesday in Milwaukee against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have the lowest-scoring offense in MLB. Good luck. (Top photo of Jacob Misiorowski: Ellen Schmidt / Getty Images)

Minnesota Twins dominated by Milwaukee Brewers 17-6 at Target Field

Jacob Misiorowski took a perfect game into the seventh inning of his second career start, Christian Yelich drove in a career-high and franchise-record eight runs, and the Milwaukee Brewers scored 16 times in the final four innings to beat the Minnesota Twins 17-6 on Friday night. Misiorowski became the first pitcher to start his big league career with 11 consecutive hitless innings as a starter since 1900. He threw five no-hit innings against St. Louis on June 12, but left in the sixth with cramping in his right calf and quadriceps. The 6-foot-7 right-hander struck out six with a fastball topping out at 102.1 mph and a slider and changeup in the mid-90s. Misiorowski (2-0) walked Byron Buxton to start the seventh inning and Matt Wallner followed by lofting an 0-1 pitch into the flower bed above the right field wall. Waller's launch angle was 44 degrees. After the homer, Misiorowski was pulled for reliever Nick Mears and left to a standing ovation from a crowd that included thousands of Brewers fans. Misiorowski threw 86 pitches, 60 for strikes, and departed with Milwaukee leading 8-2. Yelich had bases-clearing doubles in the seventh and eighth innings and RBI singles in the sixth and ninth. He became the first player since RBIs became an official stat in 1920 to drive in at least eight runs without a homer, according to OptaSTATS. Milwaukee moved a season-high six games over .500, while the Twins have lost seven of eight. Joe Ryan (7-3) allowed three runs on 5 1/3 innings on 101 pitches. Key moment After seeing four straight pitches of at least 100.8 mph from Misiorowski, Willi Castro twisted like a corkscrew and dropped to the ground as he struck out on a 95.5 mph slider in the first inning. Key statistic Misiorowski threw 29 pitches of 100 mph or higher, topping out at 102.1 mph and throwing 12 of 101 mph or more. Up next José Quintana (4-2, 3.55 ERA) starts for Milwaukee on Saturday against Minnesota's Simeon Woods Richardson (2-3, 5.13).

Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski, pumping 96 mph sliders, opens career with 11 straight hitless innings

Milwaukee Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski completed his second career start on Friday. He's still waiting to allow his first hit. A week after posting five no-hit innings in his MLB debut before exiting with cramps, the 23-year-old right-hander arguably looked even better in his second start by taking a perfect game into the sixth inning against the Minnesota Twins. In total, he opened his career with 11 straight hitless innings. Advertisement Per the Brewers broadcast, he is the first starting pitcher in MLB's live-ball era (since 1920) to post 10 straight hitless innings to begin his career. The overall record for hitless innings to open career still belongs to reliever Austin Cox with 11 2/3 in 2023. It was not hard to see how Misiorowski accomplished it. Per Baseball Savant, his fastball averaged 100.6 mph and topped out at 102.1 mph, and that wasn't even his most unhittable pitch. What batters really had trouble with was a slider that topped out at 96.7 mph. That is not a typo. Misiorowski threw a slider 96.7 mph. With Misiorowski at 80 pitches and the Brewers up 8-0 after a seventh-inning rally, the team opted to leave him in to pitch the bottom of the seventh. That quickly went badly, with Misiorowski walking the leadoff batter on four pitches then allowing a two-run homer to Matt Wallner. Advertisement Milwaukee opted to pull him after that, to a standing ovation from the opposing crowd. His final line: 6-plus innings pitched, one hit, two runs, one walk and six strikeouts. His ERA sits at 1.64. In total, Misiorowski threw 29 pitches of at least 100 mph. That's more than any starting pitcher not named Hunter Greene has thrown this season, and matches Stephen Strasburg's career total. With a start like that, there's really no telling how far Misiorowski can go in his career. He currently sits as the No. 66 overall prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline (with most of the concerns centered on his control). At 6-foot-7, he's an imposing force on the mound and so far exceeding even the most outlandish of expectations.
