Kalen DeBoer Plays the Nick Saban Trump Card To Land Elite 5-Star Edge

Kalen DeBoer Plays the Nick Saban Trump Card To Land Elite 5-Star Edge originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer have already assembled an impressive 2026 recruiting class, which features a total of seven commitments and ranks No. 10 in the nation, per On3. Advertisement They continue to make strong pushes as well, and on Friday, are hosting EDGE Anthony Jones out of Mobile, Alabama, for an official visit. It's his 10th total (nine unofficial) with the program. It's clear that DeBoer is pulling out all the stops, too, because while on his visit, Jones posted a photo featuring legendary Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban while also writing "The next recruit." It's no surprise to see this kind of tactic being used, though, as On3 Industry Rankings places Jones as a five-star recruit, the No. 3 EDGE, the No. 2 player in Alabama and the No. 19 player in the nation. Advertisement Last year for St. Paul's Episcopal, he proved to be extremely dominant and worthy of that rating, as he was named a MaxPreps Junior All-American after finishing the season with 84 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 16 sacks. However, it also means that Alabama will have to fight with several other big programs for his commitment. Jones has also taken official visits with Auburn (May 16), Miami (May 30), Texas A&M (June 6) and Oregon (June 13). Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoerMatt Pendleton-Imagn Images Bringing in someone like Saban, who, in his 17 years with the Crimson Tide, helped achieve a 206-29 record and helped win six national championships, is a good way to show serious interest. Advertisement Now, it remains to be seen if things pay off, as the On3 recruiting prediction machine currently gives Alabama and DeBoer the best chances (31.1%) at landing Jones, while Auburn is second (25%) and Texas A&M is in third (9.8%). Michigan football gains edge for 4-star CB in 2026 class after losing target to rival

Michigan football has one cornerback committed to the 2026 class in Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star Brody Jennings. But his pledge has been tenuous, and the Wolverines have been looking to add multiple others to the class, whether he sticks or not. The Wolverines lost out on Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield four-star Khary Adams to Notre Dame, but there's another who visited recently, with whom Michigan is in high regard. Advertisement Once thought to be an Ohio State lean (per On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, Frisco (Tx.) Panther Creek four-star cornerback Donovan Webb has officially visited Ann Arbor earlier in the month, but also saw Texas Tech, Colorado, Kansas State, and LSU throughout the cycle. However, it appears that LaMar Morgan and company have done a good enough job that On3's Chad Simmons and EJ Holland have both put in predictions that he'll be wearing a winged helmet in the end. The scouting report from 247Sports' Gabe Brooks: Ultra-productive safety prospect with three-phase playmaking experience. Volume tackler with passing game impact as well, as evidenced by consecutive 100-tackle seasons and nine INTs/19 breakups across soph-junior campaigns. Displays impressive athleticism as a return game threat (two TDs as a junior). Ballhawk who looks for the big play. Shows some open-field speed-building ability. Also runs track. Plays a hyper-competitive style. Testing and track data suggest room to improve top-end speed. Can get too physical/handsy at times in coverage. Projects as a high-major safety with possible role versatility depending on down-and-distance situations. Could become a multi-year starter with the instincts and production that suggest potential beyond college. Webb is set to make his decision final in relatively short order, with his commitment date set for July 2. Oklahoma 2026 QB target shines at Elite 11 finals

While Oklahoma's quarterback situation remains a mystery in the 2026 recruiting class, one of their targets is having a week at the Elite 11 Finals in California. Four-star quarterback and Oklahoma Sooners target, Bowe Bentley, has performed well at the Elite 11 finals and earned the distinction of top performer from night two by Rivals recruiting expert Adam Gorney. Down to Oklahoma and LSU, Bentley delivered arguably the best performance of the night. What we loved the most is that the Celina, Texas four-star was firing the ball on most throws, really spinning it and getting it there with purpose. He was good throwing from the pocket, escaping pressure, resetting and getting it out and hitting receivers on every kind of route. It was a really strong, impressive showing that showed off a range of skills. - Gorney, Rivals In addition to Gorney's praise, Bentley earned high praise from 247Sports recruiting analysts Andrew Ivins and Tom Loy, who lauded Bentley's intermediate passing ability. Charles Power of On3 liked what he saw from Bentley and said he was 18 of 20 on his throws. Bentley is an incredible dual-threat quarterback. He can throw to all levels and has the athleticism and speed to create big plays with his legs. He's drawn some comparisons to Oklahoma starting quarterback John Mateer after an undefeated season for Celina. In his junior season, Bentley threw for 3,211 yards and 47 touchdowns and ran for 923 yards and 16 more scores on the ground. Advertisement The Oklahoma Sooners are working to secure a commitment from Bentley. Both OU and LSU hosted Bentley for an official visit in the last month, and both schools feel like they're in a strong position to earn his pledge.
