Wisconsin great Braelon Allen holds a notable NFL record entering 2025 season
Wisconsin great Braelon Allen holds a notable NFL record entering 2025 season The most rush yards in NFL history before these ages... What jumps out about this list? 🤔 — NFL on CBS 🏈 (@NFLonCBS) June 19, 2025 Wisconsin fans grew used to hearing about Braelon Allen's age during his terrific three-year college career. The Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, native joined the program a year early after reclassifying from the class of 2022 to 2021. That move meant he joined the program as a 17-year-old true freshman, a fact that became universally known when the Badgers' season kicked off that fall. Allen burst onto the scene immediately during that true freshman campaign, taking 186 carries for 1,268 yards and 12 touchdowns. His emergence one month into the season directly correlated with the Badgers' seven-game win streak and in-season resurgence. Thanks to the ESPN and Fox broadcast teams, Allen's age became synonymous with the team's success. The talented running back went on to play in 35 games over three seasons with the Badgers. He took 597 total carries for 3,494 yards and 35 touchdowns. At only 20 years old, Allen entered the draft after his junior season, where the New York Jets selected him with the No. 134 overall pick. That leads to Allen's current NFL record. 20-year-old prospects rarely enter the professional ranks, given the three-year requirement between high school graduation and NFL draft declaration. A player would need to enter college at 17, which Allen did, then perform well enough to declare before their senior season. Allen, who didn't turn 21 until January 20, was the only 20-year-old in the NFL last season. Thus, it should be no surprise that he is currently the league's all-time leader in rushing yards before the age of 21. Allen carried the football 92 times for 334 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie with the Jets in 2024, primarily operating as the backup to starter Breece Hall. Allen and Hall should continue to form a 1-2 punch for the Jets in 2025. The former Badger's league record should hold for some time. Moving forward, it will be interesting to watch whether he can surpass any other legendary name on this list. For reference, Ezekiel Elliott totaled an NFL-best 1,631 yards as a 21-year-old rookie in 2016. Allen would need a 1,300-yard output in 2025 to reach that mark. ‘Do not come here' warns N.L. official as crews battle wildfire
A Newfoundland flag flies in the wind in Rocky Harbour, N.L., on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Sean Kilpatrick Houses in the central Newfoundland and Labrador town of Badger are safe Thursday morning, even as a wildfire burns just a few hundred metres away from the community. Badger's town council wrote in an update Thursday morning there was 'no risk to any properties' inside the community. Residents of the community had evacuated Wednesday night following a precautionary order from Premier John Hogan. The town council wrote that members of the community fire department, as well as the RCMP, are patrolling the community throughout the day. 'If you do not have to be near the town of Badger, do not come here,' Chris Tibbs, the MHA who represents the area and neighbouring communities in Newfoundland and Labrador's House of Assembly, told his constituents in a Facebook video just after noon on Thursday. 'We have a heavy RCMP presence on the highway, and it's essential personnel only at this time.' 'Do not hamper the operations today by coming here if you do not need to.' Lisa Dempster, the province's forestry minister, told constituents in an update on Facebook Thursday morning that although the fire didn't grow overnight, officials still needed to see more positive news throughout the day before they could consider lifting the evacuation order. 'No perimeter growth overnight. That's wonderful news, but the fire is still very hot, and they still have a lot of work to do today,' she wrote. Tibbs, who is helping the town's fire department, said there was some improvement in the weather Thursday. After ordering Wednesday's evacuation, Premier John Hogan travelled to the Joe Byrne Arena in Grand Falls-Windsor, the registration point for Badger evacuees, and spoke with some of the red cross personnel. 'In an emergency you can be sure Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are there to help in any way they can,' he wrote on Facebook. 'The response in Grand Falls-Windsor and surrounding towns to assist evacuees was incredible and I thank them for their quick action and continued support of their neighbours.' Officials believe the fire broke out Tuesday evening after a lightning strike. It's grown to 650 hectares in size.

Wet weather expected to help fight Badger wildfire, says N.L. fire officer
A wildfire is still threatening the community of Badger but wet weather is expected to help crews fight the fire, says Newfoundland and Labrador's fire officer. The forest fire started on Tuesday, ignited by a lightning strike near the community. On Wednesday, the province ordered residents of the town to evacuate and head to the nearby community of Grand Falls-Windsor. The provincial government also brought in a province-wide fire ban. Forestry protection supervisor Jeff Motty anticipates Thursday will be a "bust day" fighting the wildfire that's threatening Badger. "If everything holds through, the [fire weather index] should decrease down to a level of moderate," he told CBC News on Wednesday evening, "which will be good for our crews to be able to get in and just start working that fire and trying to put out any hotspots and anything in between that they can get out." He said the fire was 600 metres from the town, but they have downgraded it from a Rank 5 fire to Rank 3. He expects firefighting efforts to pick up as well — there are 35 personnel on site and Motty said they've asked for more resources. "We'll get waterbombers back out on site to work the northwest flank. A helicopter will be bucketing too," said Motty. As of Thursday morning the provincial fire hazard map lists the central area of Newfoundland as having a very high risk of fire. Wet weather 'will help' Meteorologist Angelie Menard said Badger had 2.5 millimetres of rain overnight and she's forecasting more for the area, which is good news for firefighting. "So that will help, definitely, to lessen the fire. And then really we're looking at some more rain overnight tonight, with some two to four millimetres. It could even go up to five. So that will also help," she told CBC Radio's The St. John's Morning Show. But Menard said winds are expected to increase on Friday afternoon, with gusts of 50 kilometre per hour.
