Vietnam becomes 10th partner-member of BRICS, confirms Brazil Foreign Ministry
Hanoi, June 14 (UNI) Vietnam has officially joined BRICS as a partner country, according to a statement from Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs — the BRICS chair for 2025.
After expressing its desire to becoming a member of the powerful global body for some time, Vietnam has now become the 10th BRICS partner, aligning itself with the bloc's vision of a more inclusive and representative international order, reports Sputnik.
"With a population of nearly 100 million and a dynamic economy deeply integrated into global value chains, Vietnam is an important player in Asia," the ministry's statement said.
Vietnam in recent years has become one of the fastest growing economies in the world and one of the strongest in South East Asia, having become one of the major destinations alongside India, Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand, and Malaysia, for investors looking to shift manufacturing from China.
The partner country category was created at the 2024 BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. The current list of partners include: Vietnam, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan.
While partner nations are not members of the bloc, it offers the option of more flexible association, as partner nations can collaborate with BRICS nations in meetings, and engage in proposed development projects.
The status also opens the door to closer ties with the bloc's institutions, including the New Development Bank, which offers infrastructure financing to developing economies.
Hanoi has yet to release a formal statement on the admission, which follows a period of deeper engagement between the Southeast Asian country and BRICS, as per South China Morning Post.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the expanded BRICS+ summit in Kazan in October 2024, and Vietnamese delegations have taken part in related dialogues, including a June 2024 meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, focused on cooperation with developing countries.
The bloc, which was formed by the world's five biggest leading economies – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – has emerged as a major alternative to West dominated blocs such as the G7, and promote de-dollarisation of global economy for other viable options and reduce Western hegemony.

Guwahati, June 21 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the revival of peace across Assam was reflected in the rise in footfall to the Manas National Park and tiger reserve. Reviewing Assam's engagement with the Yoga Day, the Chief Minister recalled that the inaugural state-level celebration was held at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati in 2015, with subsequent editions hosted in locations such as Majuli, Nalbari, Nagaon, Kamrup Metropolitan, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Dhubri, and Tezpur. He expressed confidence that this year's event, held in collaboration with the BTR and Baksa administration, would invigorate the advancement of yoga in the region. Sarma also remarked on the significance of Salbari as the venue, observing its transition from a region once affected by conflict during the Bodo movement to now emblematic of Bodoland's improved conditions and administrative stability. LIC Housing Finance reduces lending rates to 7.50 pc on new home loans
Kolkata, June 21 (UNI) LIC Housing Finance has reduced its rate of interest on new home loans by 50 basis points. With this revision, interest rates on new home loan sanctions will now start from 7.50 per cent effective June 19, 2025, coinciding with the company's 36th foundation day. This move follows the recent repo rate cuts announced by the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), with LIC HFL passing on the benefit to new home loan customers to encourage home ownership and improve affordability, an LIC statement said on Saturday. Iranian leader Ahmad Alamolhoda urges citizens to not be misled by Israel's ‘psychological warfare'
Tehran, June 20 (UNI) Ahmad Alamolhoda, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's representative in Iran's northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi, said on Friday that Iranians should not be alarmed by the deaths of commanders, nuclear programme officials, or the loss of social assets, which he said was part of Israel's "psychological warfare", reports Iran International. 'The enemy wants to frighten us through psychological and military operations. Fear leads to weakness, but the people have not wavered,' he said during Friday prayers sermons. Echoing Khamenei's recent remarks about alleged 'Israeli psychological warfare', Alamolhoda called on citizens to continue their normal lives. 'Why should we evacuate cities? That's exactly what the enemy wants—to disrupt your daily lives so you abandon the field,' he said. Iran has been cracking down on cyberattacks in the country's cyberspace, restricting internet access, or altogether cutting it in certain parts, to tackle any 'misinformation'. Fatemeh Mohajerani, the spokesperson of the Iranian government, justifying the government action, said that the ongoing internet restrictions were implemented to protect citizens and counter cyberattacks amid what she described as 'psychological warfare and digital threats by Israel.' She said ministers are working around the clock with the president and key cabinet members inspecting infrastructure and public services on the ground. Authorities have meanwhile warned residents that national internet services could replace global access if necessary and urged citizens to rely solely on state media and domestic messaging apps for news.
