Iraq urges global action following Israeli strikes on Iran
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) — Baghdad has strongly condemned Israel's recent military strikes on Iran, labeling them a 'flagrant violation' of international law and a direct threat to global peace and security.
In an official statement delivered by government spokesperson Bassem Al-Awadi, Iraq denounced the use of force and called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address what it described as an act of aggression.
'The Government of the Republic of Iraq condemns, in the strongest terms, the military aggression launched by Israel against the territory of Iran,' the statement read. 'This aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, and constitutes a threat to international peace and security, especially as it occurred during the period of US-Iranian negotiations.'
Al-Awadi warned that passive condemnation is no longer adequate. He urged the international community to respond with practical deterrent steps to prevent further escalation and protect the integrity of the international legal order.
'The international community must not remain a spectator to this blatant violation… If existing mechanisms prove incapable, the world must consider new frameworks that ensure accountability, enforce justice, and protect world peace,' he said.
The Iraqi government reiterated its commitment to the principles of sovereignty, peaceful resolution of conflicts, and the prohibition of force in international relations.
Iraq, which maintains strategic ties with both the West and its neighbors, has repeatedly warned that regional stability is at risk amid increasing tensions between Iran and Israel.

Iraq warns against regional war after US hits Iran's nuclear sites
Shafaq News/ On Sunday, Iraq's four presidencies condemned the United States' airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The media office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani stated that the PM attended a meeting that included President Abdul Latif Rashid, Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, and Supreme Judicial Council President Faiq Zidan. The attendees reviewed recent regional developments and the implications of the ongoing conflict. They stressed Iraq's rejection of any breach of its sovereignty or airspace and voiced support for the government in taking necessary measures to protect national airspace, including pursuing legal action through international institutions to prevent further violations. The four presidencies condemned the attack against Iran, warning that the strike 'represents a serious breach of international laws and norms.' Expressing concern over the targeting of Iran's nuclear sites, they called the act a dangerous escalation that threatens both regional and international peace. The meeting also addressed Iraq's political, economic, and social conditions, and discussed efforts to improve public services and citizens' living standards. They reviewed issues including the funding of salaries for public employees in the Kurdistan Region, the resumption of parliament sessions, the implementation of amendments to the General Amnesty Law, and preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections on November 11.

Operation Midnight Hammer: Joint drills a year ago rehearsed nuclear facility attacks
Shafaq News/ The United States and Israel had jointly rehearsed Sunday's coordinated airstrikes on Iran's nuclear sites during military exercises held nearly a year ago, ABC News reported. According to the report, the exercises were conducted during the administration of former US President Joe Biden and included simulations targeting key Iranian nuclear facilities—Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. It was the first time Washington and Tel Aviv executed joint drills specifically simulating an offensive strike on Iran's nuclear capabilities. A source familiar with the operation described the training as 'unprecedented,' noting that the mock missions were deliberately designed to replicate the scale, speed, and precision of the actual strike. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth later confirmed that the attack was months in the making. Speaking to reporters, he described it as a 'decisive blow' that 'crushed Iran's nuclear ambitions.' Earlier today, President Donald Trump announced the launch of Operation Midnight Hammer, which targeted key enrichment facilities in Iran. The operation comes amid escalating military confrontation between Tehran and Tel Aviv that began with Israel's June 13 air campaign, codenamed Operation Rising Lion. Meanwhile, Iran's Nuclear Safety Center reported no signs of radiation leakage from the affected sites and assured that surrounding populations were not at risk. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump for ordering the operation, calling it a display of strength that would bring lasting peace. 'Strength comes first—then comes peace,' Netanyahu declared in a televised statement.
