Iraq urges global action following Israeli strikes on Iran
Baghdad ( — Baghdad has strongly condemned Israel's recent military strikes on Iran, labeling them a 'flagrant violation' of international law and a direct threat to global peace and security. In an official statement delivered by government spokesperson Bassem Al-Awadi, Iraq denounced the use of force and called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address what it described as an act of aggression. 'The Government of the Republic of Iraq condemns, in the strongest terms, the military aggression launched by Israel against the territory of Iran,' the statement read. 'This aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, and constitutes a threat to international peace and security, especially as it occurred during the period of US-Iranian negotiations.' Al-Awadi warned that passive condemnation is no longer adequate. He urged the international community to respond with practical deterrent steps to prevent further escalation and protect the integrity of the international legal order. 'The international community must not remain a spectator to this blatant violation… If existing mechanisms prove incapable, the world must consider new frameworks that ensure accountability, enforce justice, and protect world peace,' he said. The Iraqi government reiterated its commitment to the principles of sovereignty, peaceful resolution of conflicts, and the prohibition of force in international relations. Iraq, which maintains strategic ties with both the West and its neighbors, has repeatedly warned that regional stability is at risk amid increasing tensions between Iran and Israel.
