Eagles' Reed Blankenship Could Be Next Up for Major Move
Eagles' Reed Blankenship Could Be Next Up for Major Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Following the offseason departures of cornerback Darius Slay and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the Philadelphia Eagles quickly became one of the youngest teams in the league along their secondary.

Young corners like Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Kelee Ringo now patrol the defensive backfield
The elder statesman of the group has now changed as well. Former undrafted safety turned starter Reed Blankenship may only be 26 years old, but he's now become the longest-tenured player in Philadelphia's secondary.
He's also in line for a contract extension this season.
Blankenship is entering the final year of his rookie deal with the Eagles. During his four-year run with the team, he has accumulated eight picks, including a career-high four this past season. As the team gets ready for the month-long break before training camp, The Athletic reported that Blankenship remains in Philadelphia's plans.

"Fourth-year safety Reed Blankenship, who's entering the final year of his contract, is a candidate for a summer extension," The Athletic wrote this week.
There's good reason to think a deal will be done. Not only is Blankenship a durable starter, but he's also an effective leader in the back end. He also has the trust of his coaching staff.
"He's done a good job," Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said about Blankenship via Bleeding Green Nation last year. "He quarterbacks the secondary and leads the communication between them and the linebackers. So, he's very, very valuable."
Blankenship won't be the only player in line for an extension this season, but he is someone that the Eagles want to keep. If they can find a way to agree, the Middle Tennessee product can continue his career with the same team that gave him a chance as a UDFA.

(AP Photo/Jeff Chiu) San Francisco Giants reliever Sean Hjelle has been accused of abuse by his wife, and MLB is now investigating the allegations, according to a statement the Giants put out Saturday. According to The Mercury News, Hjelle said Saturday that he doesn't have an official comment at the moment but that he'll eventually make a statement after speaking with his agent and lawyer. Advertisement Hjelle's wife, Caroline Hjelle, posted a TikTok on Friday of her with the couple's two children. The video's caption read, "When my MLB husband abandons us on Mother's Day a week after this [video was taken] once I finally found about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse, so I've been raising two boys alone." The Giants said in their statement Saturday that they are 'aware of these serious allegations' and have been in contact with MLB, which is looking into the situation. 'Obviously we're aware of it,' Giants manager Bob Melvin said before the Giants' 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Saturday, via The Associated Press. 'He told me about it last night. We talked to MLB. At this point, it's in their jurisdiction right now so I really can't comment on it further." Advertisement Melvin also said before the game Saturday that Hjelle would be available to pitch. He didn't make an appearance, however. Hjelle, a 28-year-old righty, made his debut with the Giants in 2022. The organization drafted him in the second round in 2018. This season, Hjelle is 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA in six outings, the most recent of which took place Friday night in a 7-5 loss to the Red Sox. Hjelle was responsible for the defeat after allowing a tie-breaking home run to center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela in the sixth inning.
