New Nissan Leaf unveiled
Nissan has shown its new Leaf electric car that's set to roll off the production line in Sunderland - the UK's biggest car plant.
It is the first model to be launched under Nissan's EV36Zero blueprint for the future of EV production and will be built in the North East by the plant's team of 6,000 people.
Nissan says the new third generation Leaf has been engineered and fine-tuned to suit the needs of European customers at Nissan's UK research and development centre, NTCE, in Cranfield, UK. It will be powered by batteries from AESC which is situated next to the Nissan plant.
The Sunderland plant will also build the next generation Nissan Qashqai e-POWER (which will arrive this year), followed next year by an all-new fully electric Juke.
Alan Johnson, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing & Supply Chain Management at Nissan Motor Manufacturing, said: 'It's with immense pride that we unveil the third generation of our pioneering electric Leaf, twelve years after we brought EV and battery manufacturing to the UK.
'It's a testament to the skill of our world-class team that we can bring into mass production a vehicle with such advanced technology and aerodynamic design. We can't wait to see it on the roads.'
The new Leaf will be able to travel up to 375 miles on a single charge and will be available for customers to order later this year.
James Taylor, managing director of Nissan GB, said: 'We're really excited about the launch of the all-new Leaf later this year. It builds on the success of the previous two generations, which have found homes with more than 70,000 UK customers.
'Leaf is a pioneering electric vehicle that has encouraged thousands to make the switch to electric motoring – and best of all, it's built here in Britain.'
A new fully-electric Micra, designed in London, will also go on sale later this year, and Nissan says it will also launch a smaller city car in 2026.

Nothing Phone 1 gets a feature-packed encore before the final curtain falls
Oliver Cragg / Android Authority TL;DR The Nothing Phone 1 gets a new update with Android 15's Privacy space feature. Other additions include a Hotspot Manager, a toggle for face unlock vibration, and the June security patch. This may be one of the device's final feature updates, with no more OS upgrades coming. The Nothing Phone 1 might be nearing the end of its update life, but it's not quite done yet. A new software update is rolling out that brings one of Android 15's key features, with a specific tailoring to Nothing's UI. According to a post on the official Nothing Community forum, the update introduces Privacy space: a new secure area on your phone for sensitive apps and data. You can access it by swiping right in the app drawer, and it works much like the feature seen on other Android phones, requiring separate authentication and keeping apps isolated from the rest of the system. You can also set a different privacy password for both the new Privacy space and the existing App Locker. The update also brings a revamped Hotspot Manager for controlling connected devices, fixes an issue with the Glyph Composer lighting effect, and lets users disable face unlock vibrations via a new toggle. As expected, the June 2025 Android security patch is included, as well as other big fixes. This could be one of the last feature-rich updates for the Nothing Phone 1. Nothing previously confirmed to Android Authority that the device won't get Android 16, as it has already received its three promised OS upgrades. Security patches will continue for a bit longer, but new feature rollouts will likely start tapering off without the latest OS support. Initial user reactions to the Nothing post in the comments are mixed. Some celebrated finally getting Private space, while others voiced disappointment about ongoing camera quality issues they had hoped might be addressed in the update. Got a tip? Talk to us! Why GXO Stock Is Soaring Today
GXO won final U.K. approval to integrate its 2024 purchase of Wincanton. The company also named a new CEO, answering two of the biggest questions that have weighed on the stock of late. 10 stocks we like better than GXO Logistics › GXO (NYSE: GXO) named a new leader and won regulatory approval to integrate a big acquisition. Investors are celebrating the developments, sending shares of the contract logistics provider up 11% as of 2 p.m. ET. GXO operates warehouses and supply chain networks for large corporate and government customers. Last year, the company acquired Wincanton for $962 million to boost its European capabilities, but it has been barred from fully integrating the deal due to United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) concerns. On Thursday, GXO announced that the CMA has cleared it to integrate "the vast majority" of Wincanton subject to the divestment of "a small number" of grocery contracts. Integration is expected to begin in the third quarter, with collaboration on aerospace deals allowed to begin immediately. The company also announced Patrick Kelleher, who has more than 30 years of global supply chain experience, as its new CEO. GXO has been looking for a new leader since December when current CEO Malcolm Wilson announced his intention to retire. GXO raised its full-year revenue, adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), and adjusted earnings per share (EPS) guidance as well. GXO stock has lost to the market since being spun out of XPO in 2021. Thursday's announcements could be the first step in reversing those declines. The company has great potential capitalizing on the growing need to manage increasingly complex supply chains but has been held back by headwinds, including uncertainty about the Wincanton integration and over who will be the new CEO. Kelleher's U.S. experience could also help drive sales increases in North America, shifting GXO's European-heavy portfolio. GXO's recent performance has been disappointing, but the potential is there. The market's enthusiasm seems justified.
