Drug syndicate using rented cars, married couple among four nabbed, say cops
SEPANG: Police have uncovered a tactic using rented cars by a drug trafficking syndicate that has been operating for the past nine years, following the arrest of four individuals in the district last Wednesday (June 18).
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said a married couple and two men, aged between 27 and 39, were arrested in the operation that began at 6pm.
He said in the operation, police seized various types of drugs, comprising 515 grams of syabu, 14 grams of ketamine, 65 grams of heroin and 300 Eramin 5 pills, valued at RM36,500, as well as two rented cars, believed to be used by the syndicate to carry out drug trafficking activities.
"All the suspects are believed to have been active in drug trafficking activities since 2016, and they are believed to be using rented cars to distribute the drugs.
"They are also believed to be renting hotels as accommodation to avoid their activities being detected by the authorities," he told a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, Norhizam said all the suspects are believed to have received payments of about RM1,600 for each drug delivery to customers.
"Initial checks found that of the four suspects, two have records, including for drug-related cases, and all three men tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine drugs, while the woman tested negative for drugs," he said.
All the suspects are on remand for between five and seven days, starting on Thursday (June 19), and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - Bernama

"Following intelligence gathering and public tip-off, the 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Puchong, Selangor, on June 17. Police also seized a black bag, a silver-black air pistol bearing the inscription Pietro Beretta Gardone V.T., a speed loader, and 30 ball-bearing bullets. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 23 to assist in the investigation under Section 33 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. GOF Foils Attempt To Smuggle 19,000 Kg Of White Rice From Thailand
KOTA BHARU, June 21 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 19,000 kilogrammes of white rice from Thailand along Jalan Kampung Air Gatal, Tanah Merah, as part of the 'Op Taring Wawasan' operations yesterday. GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the seizure was made after a GOF's 9th Battalion team spotted several men loading white sacks into the back of a trailer. 'However, all the suspects fled into nearby bushes upon realising the presence of the police,' he said in a statement today. He said an inspection of the trailer found 19,000 kilogrammes of white rice, believed to have been smuggled from Thailand and intended for sale on the local market. 'The seized rice, along with the trailer, is estimated to be worth RM426,000. The case has been handed over to the Kelantan Paddy and Rice Regulatory Authority for further action,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 20 of the Control of Paddy and Rice Act 1994. Meanwhile, Nik Ros Azhan said in a separate operation, his team also foiled an attempt to smuggle 11 cows after intercepting a lorry that was being driven suspiciously in Kampung Telaga Bata, Tumpat, last Thursday. 'An inspection found 11 cows in the back of the lorry, and the driver failed to produce any valid documentation for the livestock. The driver, a 28-year-old local man, was arrested,' he said. He added that the total value of the seizure, including the lorry, was estimated at RM151,000.
