Indonesia Calls For Restraint, Offers Support For Global Peace Efforts

JAKARTA, June 18 (Bernama) -- Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono has called for restraint amid escalating global tensions and reaffirmed Jakarta's readiness to support international peace efforts.
Speaking alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a joint press conference in Moscow on Tuesday, Sugiono stressed the importance of diplomacy in resolving disputes.

'We agreed that any escalation must be stopped and that disputes should be brought to the negotiation table,' he said, in remarks released by Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry.
His comments followed Lavrov's remarks on tensions in the Middle East and came as part of broader talks on regional and global issues, including cooperation under BRICS and ASEAN frameworks.
Sugiono said Indonesia was prepared to contribute to peacebuilding efforts and mediate where needed.
'I also offer Indonesia's assistance in bridging communication gaps and differences, and in helping to reduce tensions both regionally and globally, so that we can contribute to a peaceful environment in various parts of the world,' he added.
The two ministers pledged to deepen cooperation across key sectors, including politics and security, trade and investment, and food and energy security.
They also agreed to upgrade ties to a Strategic Partnership.

KOTA KINABALU, June 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's success in fending off foreign claims over Sabah reaffirms the state's sovereignty under the Federation of Malaysia and offers assurance and relief to the people of Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He expressed gratitude to the federal government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the government's commitment to protecting the rights and sovereignty of the state. He said that the state government greatly values the various forms of assistance and initiatives provided by the federal government, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security. 'The strong ties and close cooperation with the federal government will continue to be upheld to ensure that Sabah is not left behind in national development,' he said. Hajiji said this in his address at the 2025 Sabah State Honours and Awards investiture ceremony held at Istana Seri Kinabalu today, where 60 individuals were conferred state honours, awards and medals by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Hajiji also gave his assurance that the implementation of inclusive and comprehensive development policies under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap will be further enhanced as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the progress and well-being of Sabahans. He said that since its introduction, the road map has had a significant impact, particularly in areas such as economic recovery, investment, agriculture, human capital development, and the overall well-being of the people. He added that the state government is focusing on the development of the agricultural sector, which plays a crucial role in ensuring food security in Sabah, noting that the key initiatives include the establishment of the Sabah Padi and Rice Board (LPBS) and the launch of the Paddy Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP), aimed at raising the state's rice self-sufficiency level from the current 24 per cent to 60 per cent by 2030. Hajiji also said the state government has approved the establishment of the Sabah TVET Council to coordinate and monitor technical and vocational education and training in line with current industry needs.

Of those evacuated, 96 individuals — including 93 Indonesian citizens, three embassy staff, and one Iranian national married to an Indonesian — crossed the Iran–Azerbaijan border and arrived safely in Baku. bootstrap slideshow 'They are now resting in Baku after a 16-hour journey. The journey went relatively safely and smoothly, although the border was more crowded than usual,' he said in a video statement released by the ministry from Istanbul. The remaining four Indonesians were evacuated in a separate operation from Israel via Jordan and are reported to be in good condition. Sugiono said the ministry remained in close contact with its nationals in the region and that the first phase of the evacuation had proceeded smoothly. According to the foreign ministry, 386 Indonesian citizens are residing in Iran and 192 in Israel. Sugiono is attending the 51st session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers' Conference in Istanbul from June 21 to 22, where the situation in Iran and Gaza is expected to feature in discussions. He called for calm and urged all parties to show wisdom and engage in dialogue to seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
