Winnipeg shelter calling for help to grow pet-friendly sensory garden
Winnipeg's Animal Services is asking for help making life a little easier for dogs in its care. 'The facilities are quite bland,' said Jennifer Medlicott, the community relations coordinator with Winnipeg's Animal Services Agency. She's not wrong. Still, Medlicott and the rest of the staff have a greener, more stimulating vision for the space - one she hopes generous Winnipeggers will help them bring to life. 'We just want to make the animals' time here as easy as possible, as enjoyable as possible, and one way of doing that is to enrich them in the yards when they're out here,' Medlicott explained. For those unfamiliar, Medlicott said it's exactly what it sounds like – an Eden of sorts filled with wonderful smells, colours, and textures designed for furry, four-legged friends to enjoy. To start, staff plan to add potted plants to the otherwise drab chain-link fence. They're hoping the public will help keep the garden growing, be it by donating soil, dog-friendly plants, extra pots or a monetary donation. 'In a kennel environment, the pets are quite stressed out,' she explained. 'When they're less stressed, they can meet their potential adopters and be in a lot better of a space.' Donations can be dropped off at the Animal Services Agency facility at 1057 Logan Avenue during adoption hours. Volunteers create mental health wellbeing garden in Maidstone
Volunteers have created a garden for NHS mental health patients and staff in Kent to Nature Recovery Garden in Maidstone has been officially inaugurated with a tree-planting took nine weeks for the team of volunteer gardeners to transform a neglected area into "a beautiful sensory garden" that "supports patients in their recovery journeys", the team Stenson, Kent & Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust chief executive, said the garden was "a remarkable sensory experience". Telford community garden providing 'peaceful space' opens
A community garden providing a peaceful space away from the "hustle and bustle of daily life" has been sensory garden at Dawley Christian Centre in Telford, described as a "tranquil oasis", features colourful, sweet-smelling flowers, herbs and calming water features, Telford and Wrekin Council authority put £7,000 of funding towards the space, which includes an area where children under five can learn to Hanson, church secretary at Dawley Christian Centre, said the project had been "several years in the making". "It was just a piece of grass and now it is a peaceful space for everyone to visit and take time out from the hustle and bustle of daily life," she council said this and similar projects helped to bring people together and "create a sense of belonging".Upcycled planters and benches were used to create the garden, which is surrounded by a fence made with recycled garden on High Street is available for people to use Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 14:00.
