Ju Haknyeon disputes exit from THE BOYZ, says he never agreed to contract termination, agency responds
Ju Haknyeon has strongly denied claims that he has left K-pop group THE BOYZ, stating he never agreed to the termination of his exclusive contract. His agency, ONE HUNDRED, has now issued a formal response rejecting his accusations and defending its actions. Earlier this week, after news broke that he been kicked out of the group following a prostitution scandal with former Japanese adult actress Kirara Asuka, Ju Haknyeon addressed fans on Instagram, stating: 'I have never left the team and have never agreed to the termination of my exclusive contract.' He also challenged the media and his agency to present any proof of illegal activity following reports linking him to a meeting with th AV actress. Ju alleged the agency demanded ₩200 million KRW (around $145,000 USD) in compensation and pressured him to leave. 'I want to hold accountable the agency that unfairly kicked me out and insisted on terminating my contract without any basis,' he wrote. On June 20, ONE HUNDRED responded with a statement: 'We deeply regret the one-sided false claims made by Ju Haknyeon.' The agency explained the decision followed concerns that the situation would damage group promotions. They cited Article 6, Section 3 of his contract, stating the termination was due to 'acts that damage the dignity of the artist to the extent that cause interference with activities.' ONE HUNDRED said it considered the termination 'legitimate and reasonable' and warned: 'If he continues these claims, we will respond with strong legal actions.' The agency added that THE BOYZ will continue activities as scheduled, excluding Ju Haknyeon, and no further comments on the matter would be made.

This Miami chef took home a James Beard Award last night, just a year after his sister won
If you needed extra proof that culinary bonafides run in the Chang family, last night you got it. At the 35th annual James Beard Foundation awards—which were held on Monday, June 16 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago—Nando Chang of Itamae AO took home the coveted medal in the Best Chef: South category, following closely in the footsteps of his sister Valerie, who won the exact same award a year earlier for her own acclaimed kitchen work over at Maty's. The Chang siblings, as well as their father Fernando, opened the first iteration of Itamae in 2018, when it was a mere food counter at the then-St. Roch Market (now known as MIA Market) in the Design District. The original counter—which served Nikkei cuisine, a delicious fusion of Peruvian and Japanese food—eventually grew into a standalone restaurant across the Palm Court, before it closed in 2023 so both Nando and Valerie could work on their own solo concepts. For Valerie, that was Maty's, a Peruvian charmer named for their grandmother and for Nando, Itamae AO, a 10-seat omakase counter directly connected to its sister restaurant (literally) that turns out a beautiful and beguiling tasting menu of Japanese-Peruvian bites. Nando's refined reimaginings earned the Miami restaurant its first-ever Michelin star earlier this year, so the James Beard sparkler is simply another glorious garnish on top of one tasty year. Itamae AO was one of two Miami-based finalists among this year's James Beard nominees, with ViceVersa—the aperitivo bar off the lobby of the Elser Hotel in downtown Miami—being recognized in the Best New Bar category. Alas, that local haunt was ultimately beat out by Identidad Cocktail Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Prior to Valerie Chang's 2024 victory in the Best Chef: South category, and her bro's subsequent win a year after, a Miami-based chef hadn't taken home a James Beard Award since all the way back in 2010. Along with the Miami nods, Florida also saw two other finalists this year: Sue Chin and Jason Chin of Orlando's Good Salt Restaurant Group (Seito Sushi, Reyes Mezcaleria, The Osprey, and others) in the Outstanding Restaurateur category, and Winter Park's Ômo by Jônt in the Best New Restaurant category. Congrats to all of our Florida winners and finalists!

22 Referred to Court in Bahrain Over Fake Food Expiry Dates
Bahrain's Public Prosecution has completed its investigation into a serious case involving expired food products being sold with fake expiry dates. Twenty-two people and two companies have been referred to court for their involvement. The case began when a worker reported to Khamis Police Station that he was forced to change expiry dates on food items at a company's warehouse. He said expired goods were being relabeled to appear fresh and fit for sale. The worker recorded a video of this process and filed an official complaint. Following the report, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce shut down the company's warehouse and shops. A team from the Public Prosecution visited the site, questioned 29 people including company owners and workers, and ordered all of them to be held during the investigation. More than 14,000 expired food items were found in the warehouse, along with chemicals used to erase expiry dates. Some of these products had already reached supermarkets. A forensic expert confirmed the expiry dates had been altered using new labels. Witnesses and police investigations supported the worker's claims. After reviewing all evidence, the prosecution decided to charge 22 people. Seven others, all of Asian nationality, were released due to lack of proof. The court case is scheduled to begin on June 22, 2025, in the Sixth Minor Criminal Court. The prosecution also said that any food items confirmed to be safe can still be sold, and maintenance workers are allowed to access the warehouse to keep refrigeration systems working to prevent further spoilage.
