This Miami chef took home a James Beard Award last night, just a year after his sister won

If you needed extra proof that culinary bonafides run in the Chang family, last night you got it. At the 35th annual James Beard Foundation awards—which were held on Monday, June 16 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago—Nando Chang of Itamae AO took home the coveted medal in the Best Chef: South category, following closely in the footsteps of his sister Valerie, who won the exact same award a year earlier for her own acclaimed kitchen work over at Maty's.
The Chang siblings, as well as their father Fernando, opened the first iteration of Itamae in 2018, when it was a mere food counter at the then-St. Roch Market (now known as MIA Market) in the Design District. The original counter—which served Nikkei cuisine, a delicious fusion of Peruvian and Japanese food—eventually grew into a standalone restaurant across the Palm Court, before it closed in 2023 so both Nando and Valerie could work on their own solo concepts.
For Valerie, that was Maty's, a Peruvian charmer named for their grandmother and for Nando, Itamae AO, a 10-seat omakase counter directly connected to its sister restaurant (literally) that turns out a beautiful and beguiling tasting menu of Japanese-Peruvian bites. Nando's refined reimaginings earned the Miami restaurant its first-ever Michelin star earlier this year, so the James Beard sparkler is simply another glorious garnish on top of one tasty year.
Itamae AO was one of two Miami-based finalists among this year's James Beard nominees, with ViceVersa—the aperitivo bar off the lobby of the Elser Hotel in downtown Miami—being recognized in the Best New Bar category. Alas, that local haunt was ultimately beat out by Identidad Cocktail Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Prior to Valerie Chang's 2024 victory in the Best Chef: South category, and her bro's subsequent win a year after, a Miami-based chef hadn't taken home a James Beard Award since all the way back in 2010.
Along with the Miami nods, Florida also saw two other finalists this year: Sue Chin and Jason Chin of Orlando's Good Salt Restaurant Group (Seito Sushi, Reyes Mezcaleria, The Osprey, and others) in the Outstanding Restaurateur category, and Winter Park's Ômo by Jônt in the Best New Restaurant category. Congrats to all of our Florida winners and finalists!

Duchess of Sussex announces launch of own wine

The rose, described as having 'soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish', on her As Ever website, will be available to buy next month. The new range of food items that went on sale on Friday included a 'limited edition orange blossom honey' at a cost of 28 dollars (£20). Also available were an apricot spread in 'keepsake packaging', and a crepe mix, both £10 each, flower sprinkles for £11 and a range of different herbal teas at £9 for a box of 12 sachets. The new range went on sale at 4pm UK time, and had all sold out by just before 8pm. Meanwhile, a message on the homepage of the As Ever site read: 'Our debut Napa Valley rose is launching just in time for summer entertaining. 'With soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish, this bespoke blend is launching just in time for summer entertaining, and will be available for purchase on July 1st.' In an Instagram post at the same time as the new products went live, the California-based duchess wrote: 'Yummies, and honeys, and fruit spreads, oh my!' Meghan had promised some 'delicious surprises' as she teased, earlier this week, that she would be offering some new products on the site. She previously said the original April launch had been 'absolutely extraordinary'. But she also spoke of her fear that she annoyed customers when the first batch of her jam and herbal teas sold out in less than an hour. She said wanted to wait until it is 'completely stable and we have everything we need'. In the run-up to her re-stock, Meghan shared a photo of jam-making preparations including bowls of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, and freshly squeezed lemons, on her Instagram stories, writing: ''June gloom?' Not over here! Because this month your favourite products are back.' Her official As Ever account also posted: 'To all who've been wondering and waiting, thank you! 'Your favourites are returning, plus a few NEW things we can't wait to show you. Coming this month … get excited!'

Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy flaunts her toned physique in a pink beach set as she celebrates her pal's birthday on luxury yacht after getting candid about her cosmetic surgery

Kate Cassidy flaunted her toned physique in a pink beach set as she sailed around Florida on a yacht to celebrate her pal's 24th birthday. The girlfriend of the late Liam Payne, 26, stunned in the pale bikini top which she pair with an ankle-length matching pink lace skirt. Kate appeared in top spirits as she showcased her toned abs while indulging in luxury iced cakes, caviar and trips around the coast of Miami. Her pal also appeared to enjoy her birthday celebrations as she was pictured in pink and purple swimwear holding the multilayer cake. Kate's post comes after she shocked fans after revealing the list of cosmetic procedures she has undergone over the past five years after sharing a natural throwback video. She took to Instagram on Thursday to share a series of throwback videos of herself from the age of 21 until today. Fans commented on her changing appearance and questioned what surgery she has had, prompting her to share share another video captioned 'transparency' where she detailed all her tweakments. Sharing a natural picture of herself aged 21, Kate said the only cosmetic procedure she had at the time was lip filler, before getting cheek and chin filler and Botox by the age of 22. However, Kate candidly admitted she then went 'overboard' and ended up with a 'frozen' face from undergoing too many filer enhancements, which she said aged her. 'When I turned 22 I went a little bit too overboard with the filler, I ended up getting cheek filler, chin filer, lip filler and a whole face of Botox,' she said. 'My face was pretty much frozen and it literally aged me so much, I probably look 40 in this, not a good look.' Kate then revealed that she got a nose job, sharing photographs of her side-on profile showing the difference in her face before and after the operation. The influencer, who dated singer Liam for two years before his tragic death, admitted she didn't 'need' a nose job but wanted one due to feeling self-conscious. Kate's post comes after she revealed the list of cosmetic procedures she has undergone over the past five years after sharing a natural throwback video (left, age 21 and right age 22) She said: 'This is my nose before, I did not need a nose job I want to make that clear, it's just something I've always been self-conscious about and something that I really wanted for years.' Kate revealed she later got her cheek and chin filler removed before getting different amounts re-injected, while she did the same with her lip filler. Updating fans on her current appearance, she said she also currently has Botox as well as filler, but insisted she doesn't have 'much' though she didn't disclose further details. 'I did get my cheek filler removed and I got, I'd say, a half syringe put in on each side, I got a half syringe in my chin and probably a syringe and a half in my chin,' she shared. 'I get Botox, but not that much, I still have wrinkles and obviously nose job doesn't go away, that will be there for life. 'I ditched the eyelash extensions and grew them out myself, so that's all I've done to my face.' Her fans were quick to take to the comments to praise the star for her transparency and gushed that she looked 'beautiful' both before and after her procedures. Kate has had a difficult few months after her boyfriend of two years, One Direction star Liam, tragically died late last year. Liam died aged 31 on October 16, 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was found to have alcohol and cocaine in his system. Kate has been documenting her grief journey on social media and she shared never-before-seen intimate texts with Liam earlier this week. Marking eight months since his death, she shared a gallery of pictures of herself and Liam and told how she lives in a 'constant state' of missing her 'best friend', admitting she can't put her pain into words. One photograph showed Liam wearing a T-shirt with her name written on it and pictures of her face printed across it as she stood beside him smiling. The influencer also shared a screenshot of texts Liam had sent her on August 1 gushing over his love for her, just two months before his tragic death. The messages read: 'Shall we go -play tennis for an hour? I literally couldn't love you more if I tried and somehow I will tomorrow. I can't wait to see you.' (sic) In a caption, Kate candidly opened up about her grief as she emotionally said her life doesn't 'make sense' without Liam in it. She penned: 'Eight months ago today, I lost my best friend and someone I thought I had so much more time and life left to share with. 'Liam was the kind of person you'd start missing the moment you walked out the door. Even when leaving the house for a few hours, I'd find myself rushing home to be with him again out of excitement. 'Now facing the reality that I live in a constant state of missing you is something I still can't fully wrap my head around. 'Knowing I can't just come home and see you, hear your voice, or feel your hug, it's a type of pain I can't fully put into words. 'I can't seem to tell if life is flying by without you or moving so slow none of it fully makes sense. 'But I am trying to live my life as best I can for now and live it for you. I miss you more than words can say. Ending on their angel number 444, she added: 'One day, I'll see you again, and I'll have so much to tell you. So much to catch up on. I love you my angel❤️444.' Angels have been symbolic for Kate since Liam's passing, particularly the number 444, which she has since got tattooed on her hand. Kate also has a beaded phone charm with the number '444' and an 'L' laced through the thread in a tribute to Liam. Angel numbers are repeating sequences of digits, normally in sets of three or four, and they are believed to hold spiritual guidance. In numerology, 444 is a sign that the 'angels are with you' and are 'there to guide you step by step'. In the weeks after his death, she referenced the angel numbers as she shared that they had been planning to marry in the weeks leading up to his passing.
